Speaking of, the channel is looking dicey. Not much on mn but it’s kicking off with tear gas on beaches.

Not sure how it’s allowed but looks like smash the gangs is going rogue

Oh dear. That doesn't sound good.

No French, sorry should have been specific

I don’t know how it can happen given laws

Don't worry about it, you just never know what's coming next at the moment.

Polling for the Welsh election. Reform ahead.

I am not too worried about Senedd elections. I think there will be a Plaid/Labour coalition. Plus I am sure that is the polling company that has an unusual methodology.

Upstartled · 17/06/2025 18:12

Is there coalition wrangling with this new pr system @PlutoCat ?

Those swings are pretty big.

Yes, I would think so.

If I have understood it all correctly, for one party to get an outright majority will be very difficult. The example I have read suggests that a 45% share of the vote would win 50% of seats.

They are. I see an intention to get Labour out, from both the left and the right.

Speaking of French beaches,

1733 people have crossed the channel in small boats in the last 6 days.

We might as well charter them a p&o ferry at this rate.

EasternStandard · 17/06/2025 20:24

It must be dawning on even Starmer that smash the gangs was a joke pre GE

Upstartled · 18/06/2025 08:33

Inflation was at 3.4% in May which was higher than predicted and the same as April. There is concern that it could start marching again as the price of oil goes up and I don't think we'll see any BoE base rate reductions until that resolves. The cost of living crisis could about to bite again.

Meanwhile, Kendall will be setting out her stall to cut benefits today, impacting 3 million households.

Edited

I didn’t know that was happening. It’ll be interesting to see if the Labour usuals say how good it is.

Upstartled · 18/06/2025 08:36

Yes, they're already out in the media circuit with the narrative that they are doing this for the good of the benfit recipients.

They will. Pro Labour on mn not far behind.

Upstartled · 18/06/2025 08:44

Right. Cue lots of personal stories of someone they know on disability benefits whose life was vastly improved by being shoved into the employment market when the number of jobs are contracting month on month, and improved their quality of life. They're probably neighbours to the granny who spent her wfa on gin and over the road from the WASPI woman on her fourth holiday of the year. 🤣

TheNuthatch · 18/06/2025 08:59

Thanks @Upstartled. You can really feel that inflation in the supermarket. Very worrying.

I keep reading that 100 plus labour MPs are prepared to vote against the government on the welfare reforms. There's a real possibility that Labour could fail, or have to rely on tory votes to get it through. They obviously haven't learned anything from the WFA debacle.

For those who can't stand the sound of Starmer's voice, today's PMQs will be Rayner and probably Alex Burghart.
Obviously Starmer is flying back from the G7 and needs to have his new set of principles on grooming gangs uploaded before he faces a grilling.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 09:04

Haha @TheNuthatchthat made me laugh 😬

On welfare the same posters spend time batting for Starmer and Labour so they likely have realised they’ll get their votes no matter what. It’s a safe place to make welfare cuts from.

ETA ha @upstartledthe jobs market is dire isn’t it? Seems quiet on that but you can see impact on threads on here.

Upstartled · 18/06/2025 09:29

Hmmm, isn't it funny that he had two weeks with Casey's report to make a decision on what to do and did so when Rayner would inevitably have to take the following pmqs?

It is very convenient isn't it, Starmer is good at that.
It will actually be Chris Philp for the tories today. I was looking forward to seeing Alex Burghart, he did a really good job of it last time. Possibly too good for Kemi to let him do it again 😬.

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 12:11

No apology re far right smears.

I was listening to PMQs as Starmer is away. Gone down hill quickly after Rayner saying thanks for tone.

I am listening the was because I might not last.

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 12:13

Labour are too painful. No recognition of failings.

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 12:14

Oh my god. Ridiculous 😬

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 12:27

Ok switched to R6 music

Poll today puts Labour in third place. That’ll ruffle some feathers. From the 3 minutes listening I endured they deserve it!

Reform 29%
Conservatives 22%
Labour 21%
Lib Dem 13%
Greens 9%

More in Common poll June 13 - 16
