He’s hit me and I don’t know what to do

I’m crying and I probably won’t make much sense but please try to help me see straight.
Had an awful evening. I know it started as my fault. I was cross as trying to house train two puppies but it’s been a bad day with them today. I was a bit annoyed and swore. I didn’t swear at anyone, it was a case of oh ffs, this is getting ridiculous.

He was angry with me and we argued. It’s eventually ended up with him grabbing my wrists, shoving me against the bedroom wall and then hitting me in the face. My nose hurts, so does my shoulder.

I’m now going to be homeless. I’ve no family, no friends anymore, don’t work and I live in his house. I’m so utterly pathetic.i can’t drive as I’ve had two glasses of wine but come tomorrow I’ll have to leave.
I’ve allowed myself to end up in this position , I’m in my late 50’s and I can’t believe I’ve been so bloody stupid.

Well done OP. Relax in the knowledge you can do as you please and are safe.

Glad you’re safe. Where are the puppies now though?

She said they'd be fine with him & their dog. She said he lives them . I hope she's right.

murasaki · 16/06/2025 19:01

Agree. Not her puppies not her problem.

they are her puppies!

how disgusting to say 'not her problem'. Neglected or abused puppies (innocent lives) FFS.

hopefully she is right when she said he lives them & they'll be ok with him.

personally I'd have taken the dog &the puppies either with me, I wouldn't trust him. If he can hit her...

but hopefully he won't hurt them.

With someone who cares about them more than he does his own partner.

Hope so 🤞🏼

MyKindLimeCrow · 16/06/2025 20:14

It is sad that there are hardly any temporary shelters for pets whose humans have to flee an abusive situation. I had to surrender three beloved pets when I left my abusive ex. I had to leave completely in secret. We were living separately but I knew if he found out while I was getting my things together he would puncture a tire or lay down behind the car or get a knife and threaten to unalive himself. I knew he would do something traumatic again. He had threatened to destroy all my belongings and I was afraid he would try that again.

@ThinkINeedHelpwell done. It must have taken a huge amount of courage to leave.
Good luck to you! Hope he has a stroke while you’re gone.

What a weird thing to say.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/06/2025 20:22

Oh well done, you brave amazing woman. Now for staying strong, and staying away from that emotionally and physically abusive bastard who does not deserve you one bit.

What?

Was that a typo?

If not, he is not a good person, no, but wishing someone you don't even know to have a stroke is just not right.

Constantlyworried1 · 16/06/2025 20:31

Your life starts now . You are free . Get some help from women’s refuge. Sending hugs .

Seawolves · 16/06/2025 20:33

Well done, I read your post this morning and have been hoping all day that you would find the strength. I am so pleased to read your update, I wish you happiness and peace.

Bourbanbiscuit · 16/06/2025 20:49

He got the puppies to keep her trapped! Of course she shouldn't take them, she needs to be able to move quickly, having two puppies is going to limit where she can stay, for example.

Ive absolutely no family. My sister died many years ago, Parents have passed away. Two step brothers, one now lives abroad and we haven’t really spoken for a few years.
The friend I was closest too is on holiday for two weeks with her grown up children and grandchildren and another who went through similar to me many years ago is now living at the opposite end of the country. I’m extremely embarrassed about my situation tbh, I’ve been a complete idiot. I do have some money though, several thousand but I’m worried sick about what the future holds.

You have money. That’s good. You can start again. You can get a job and make new friends. 58 isn’t old at all! You have the rest of your life ahead of you! It’s your time to start living again. Contact women’s aid and they will help you get started in your new life.

Suecee · 16/06/2025 00:43

They will change.
Steadily worsen.

Be strong and leave.
My husband would resort to hitting me when we fell out about things. I learned over the years to recognise his facial expressions and realise when he was going to blow...

That worked for a while, then he got wise and turned anyway.

The last time he raised his hand to me I warned him
"You can shout, you can mouth off at me, BUT.... YOU NEVER EVER RAISE YOUR HAND AGAINST ME EVER AGAIN"

The authority poured out of me and he backed off
He has never raised his hand against me since.... though the last time he did anything, he was being unreasonable and blaming it in me... and he threw his 1/2pint pot of hot tea across the room. Tea everywhere, even on the ceiling!

That was THE last time. My attitude towards him was so stalemate
No conversation for a week. I had no wish to look at him much less utter a squeak that could be interpreted as a gesture. He tried to out last me but gave in because he realised that it was dangerously, relationship endingly deep.

Ive spent a lifetime being love to everyone. I sweat affection, but I have scant left for him at all now. I love my children, grandchildren and my home.
Its enough

The 2 reasons couples fall out are :
they care enough to fight for each other
Or they detest one another....

When the arguments stop :
They found peace in the fact that they no longer care.

Why are you still with him?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 16/06/2025 21:15

He didn't like you screaming because the neighbours would have thought he was a nasty bastard.. He has no shame
Hold your head up high, you're going places He's stuck in the gutter
Try and sleep or doze tonight then tomorrow make a list of what you need/ want to do.
Start with Women's aid. They will help you plan your way to happiness freedom and peace of mind
I'm only a poster on an internet forum but I admire you

uncomfortablydumb60 · 16/06/2025 21:17

Oh and Please do contact your old friends and explain losing touch was not your choice
They will be glad to hear from you

Middlemarch123 · 16/06/2025 21:29

I have taken in cats and dogs from partners leaving abusive relationships. Worked with RSPCA , Dogs Trust and WA. There are volunteers like me who do this. If you are worried about the puppies OP, then any of the organisations will help.

If it was my like or a dogs I would get myself out. I’m guessing you have never been scared for your life from an abusive man

SherlockHolmes · 16/06/2025 22:07

Well done OP, you've been amazingly brave. Keep posting here if you need us! x

Isitreallythough · 16/06/2025 22:14

Oh well done to you OP. He has treated you absolutely disgustingly and you deserve so much better. I hope you can reconnect with your friends as you move on... I bet they would be glad.

Myfridgeiscool · 16/06/2025 22:20

So thrilled to hear you’re out of there!
Well done!
The rest of your life starts now. Look forward to your future, leave him in the past.

Doesn't mean she doesn't love them/care about them or that they're not hers.

rescue/foster/Airbnb

she has money, she has more options than most fleeing, thankfully.

saying they're not hers, too bad what happens to them is disgusting, that's my
opinion, you don't have to agree.

MissSookieStackhouse · 16/06/2025 22:25

Well done OP, you’re doing amazingly. It’s definitely not too late to contact the police. Why should he get away with his awful abusive behaviour to you and the violence? To get the rest of your stuff back you will need the police to accompany you to make sure he doesn’t hit you again, or even try to lure you back if you’re alone. You’re well out of it. Best of luck with your future, it will be so much better without him in it.

MyKindLimeCrow · 16/06/2025 22:26

Just FYI, abusers will collect many pets and keep replacing them or adding new ones to keep you stuck.

Her priority should be to get herself to safety.

if she is concerned about the dogs’ welfare then she can try and sort that out when she’s in a more stable place.
