Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

Happy Father's Day to any dads on the thread this morning!

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have been fed and have vanished, and I have the second load of towels in the washer. The first is on the line. I need to take my tablets in a mo.

We don't have much planned for today, I don't think. Dd1's up and out to travel home from Lido festival in London - she'll get home around 4pm, I think. Dd2 wants to print a couple of past GCSE Biology papers to practise for her upcoming mock exam on Wednesday.

I'll have a slow, moochy kind of day - bit of house hunting & sending enquiries (the fun part of the day, obviously 🙄), bit of decluttering before we move, some trousers to take up, and try out my new pyrography tool I think. That'll probably take me to tea time!

We're having roast pork sandwiches with stuffing, gravy, and apple sauce for me 😋. I'll probably do some roast potatoes too.

Once we've tidied from tea it'll be early showers all round ready for the coming week. I'll have my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower - face mask, hair mask, shave legs, maybe tan, paint my toenails a different colour & consider changing my finger nails too - although I think they'll do this week. After that, I'll read for an hour or so, then an early night 💤.

What about everyone else? 🙂

I’m currently giving DH a well deserved lie in after a 12 hour shift yesterday. Just finished some peanut butter on toast for breakfast and a cup of coffee in the sunshine!
Also about to pop the first load of washing on the line but uniforms are all set for tomorrow so that’s a bonus.
We’ve got a really chilled day planned, need to wander over to Tesco as dd2 wants to make DH a curry for his Father’s Day gift and get a chocolate cake!
Ds1 is still in pjs watching Minecraft on YouTube. Then going to play a couple of board games and sit in the garden doing sweet F.A.

PurpleChrayn · 15/06/2025 09:27

We had planned a trip out for some Father’s Day lunch but DH was up all night watching the news and talking to relatives as there’s a war in his country.

We’ll see how he feels after a nap but it will probably be a day at home! Children eating pancakes at the moment and watching Mr Tumble.

princessspotify · 15/06/2025 09:33

Morning. Dp and I have been up since 7. 2nd load of washing in machine. The kids are still in bed. Plan for today is to lay some new turf put up a hanging basket and then we're going to the pub for dinner at 3pm.
I did all school uniforms yesterday. Eldest will do some revision for his last exam tomorrow too. I can't believe it's his last day at school tomorrow. It really has gone so quick

On our way to the airport to collect our rest who has been in NZ for 3 months. Very happy.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 15/06/2025 09:43

A sunny Sunday here in London. I've got towels in the machine and am refusing to open the laptop until 10. I've got reports to read and annual review paperwork to finish, which will take me most of the day (or all, depending on procrastination levels). Must wash my hair tonight, tomorrow me will be very grateful. Marry Me mushrooms with pasta for dinner I think.

Simonjt · 15/06/2025 09:48

Good morning all, we’re off to a shopping centre later as our oldest wants to spend some of his birthday money, he is after some lego but he wants to see them in person before he chooses what to buy.

We’re going on holiday tomorrow so we need to finish packing for that and double check all our camping bits are okay before putting them in the trailer. We got the tent out yesterday to check for mould etc.

Have a fab sunday, see, I got the right day this week.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 15/06/2025 09:53

I'm still in bed with my second cup of tea. Got to get up and take the youngest to work in a bit, but would happily sit here all day.

Husband and eldest are already in the garden finishing the patio they started laying last weekend. I do feel lazy, but I need days like this every now and then.

greengreengrass3 · 15/06/2025 10:04

Morning everyone, I’m currently still in bed enjoying my second coffee.
I'm about to get up and start the day.
plans are
2 loads of washing, get out in the garden and put some new plants in that I bought last week.
Then we’re off to my parents for lunch with the rest of my siblings, so looking forward to seeing my nieces & nephew

Rainbow1235 · 15/06/2025 10:05

Morning all I’m only just up drinking tea as late nite at the barn dance . Was a great nite tho very well organised and the weather was lovely too . Think quiet one today as my 2 brothers coming here later to discuss dads will . Got a horrible feeling my one brother will be very awkward 😐. I hope not tho as dad would hate any atmosphere between us . Have a safe and happy Sunday 🫶

AllotmentTime · 15/06/2025 10:07

I am lazing in bed even though I need to get up, put some laundry on, tidy up and then do some work. I'm procrastinating getting started!

DH has been brought breakfast in bed and now has started work - unfortunately we are both super busy atm. The DC were dragged to a lot of boring things yesterday so are having some well earned screen time. Which will probably last most of the day.

Later we are BBQing. And then DH is out with friends while I will do either more work or more laundry 🤣 it's a very fun exciting day here today!

OchreSwan · 15/06/2025 10:13

Good morning everyone! So sorry to hear you’re having to move Lucysmam, it’s just such a pain. Hope you will find somewhere new quickly!

I’m slowly waking myself up with a coffee on the sofa, listening to DP and his friend cooking breakfast in the kitchen. We were all out at different gigs last night so are feeling a little worse for wear - I got in at about 11.30 and then stayed up until they got home at about 1am.

I think DPs friend is staying for breakfast and will then disappear off to his own home, so I expect DP and I will have a very quiet day of recovery. The house needs a good sorting out (though I did manage to speed through cleaning the bathrooms before I had to go out yesterday, so that’s one thing sorted!). Then we’ll do a food shop, pick up something nice for dinner and hopefully I’ll have time to read my book and start my new knitting project.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2025 10:19

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Actually it's not such a good morning for me... I had a very disturbed night and woke up around 5am with palpitations - again. I got up around 7am to ensure I had some time with Liverpool daughter and Houdini. They have just left and I won't see them now until the beginning of September. I'm still not feeling great so I have just gone back to bed.

No plans at all for today. Mr Dilemma did suggest going to IKEA for more cheese, but I pointed out that main meals are half price Monday to Friday so I have managed to avoid that for today. He must REALLY have liked the cheese because it I ever have the temerity to suggest going to IKEA at the weekend it's usually received as if I had suggested giving him a special tour of the local abbattoir.

We'll be eating leftovers for lunch - no coronation chicken as it all went... All one and a half chicken's worth of it (the other half fed Liverpool daughter and Houdini, Liverpool daughter doesn't like coronation chicken and we weren't sure about Houdini... turns out he does like it). I thought one and a half large chickens would be enough for 6 people, but no, it all went and people were looking for more. I'll have to make more next time.

This evening we're having burgers in buns. We have plenty of salad left and there are some nasty orange plastic slices that Mr Dilemma can put with his.

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 10:20

@Eastendboysandwestendgirls excellent nn! What are Marry Me Mushrooms?

OP posts:
lucysmam · 15/06/2025 10:24

@Simonjt we were all relying on you to give us an extra weekend day too 🤣

@OchreSwan what gigs did you go to?

@DilemmaDelilah did Houdini escape? Or did the baby gate idea work?

We are having a quiet day at home because we've just had a hectic and absolutely fantastic couple of days at Legoland. I need to tackle the ironing pile and the washing up pile and maybe do a bit more tiling in the bathroom, and my daughter has requested a trip to the park on her bike. We've had a couple of days of odd snack food so might cook some fish, potatoes and greens tonight. Or my standard fridge pasta!

I also need to clean the fridge...

ViciousCurrentBun · 15/06/2025 10:26

Dropping off DH to do some measuring up on our Motorhome at the site it is stored on and driving on to a friends at her house for a couple of hours. Having lunch at a pub on the way home that’s by the canal with DH and then having a final read of DS dissertation as is DH as it’s being submitted this evening as deadline is in 2 days. Also picking up a free landline phone from a Recycling site, they are hard to buy and I accidentally washed ours along with the sofa blanket in the machine a couple of weeks ago, I blame the cat who peed on the blanket.

dontforgetme · 15/06/2025 10:29

Good morning @lucysmam and all! I missed yesterday’s thread as we were up and out to the Cotswolds early doors. Caught up last night, really sorry to hear about your eviction notice! We moved last year and I was dreading it but it gave us a chance to get rid of 50% of our stuff and it felt amazing! The amount of shit we had amassed over 10 years in our old house was crazy! Hoping you find an even better kitchen spot @lucysmam!

We are off the cinema to watch How To Train Your Dragon today, dps choice for Fathers Day and the kids are both really excited. Followed by a meal at our local Italian. Then it’ll be showers and early nights all round after a very hectic day yesterday, we are all knackered!

Have lovely Sundays all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/06/2025 10:29

Morning, everyone. I’m at the train station ready to head to M&S for fruit and peonies.

I’ve got some trousers to shorten when I get back and the rest of the afternoon will mostly be either lazy, or pootling with the sewing machine. We were out late at a gig last night and my old knees are aching, so I’ll be glad of a rest!

The dc are both coming for tea so I’m making pasta puttanesca. I might make chocolate concrete and chocolate custard too. Or does anybody know how to make old school pink custard?

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 10:33

@dontforgetme yes, the amount of "stuff", when I look around, is quite something.

I've made a start with a kitchen cupboard this morning. Not a big one - but it's a start. I'll probably do another later on.

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've had two coffees and a slice of toast with a cuppa. I slept well (for me) but woke after a particularly weird dream. I'm still not allowed to do much after my cataract surgery so another boring day. I'm dressed today which is a step up from yesterday. The dishes are washed and the rubbish is out in the respective bins. I'm going to hoover then another cuppa with a pancake on jam. Sigh. I don't take well to enforced rest. Have a good day all

Giggorata · 15/06/2025 10:34

Good morning lucysmam and all,
A slow start this morning after last night's ceilidh.
DH is going to seek the reduced grocery bargains in town and I am going to do laundry. In a while…
Then I should really bestir myself and pull weeds in the yard,
plus do a bit of potting up and sorting.
I'm also going to hang a painting and have a go at hanging some antlers over the back door.
DH is going down to the land this afternoon with the big dog, to do some work and attempt to tire her out. I suspect he's the one who will get tired out.
I will have the lab with me, who is, or pretends to be, a good girl.
We'll either have the lamb curry again for dinner or something surprising brought in by DH.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 15/06/2025 10:35

I've been to a car boot sale and bought two bracelets, some plant pots and a guitar amp. DH is chuffed to bits with it, and will add it to his already unfeasibly large collection of assorted junk gear.

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 10:35

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand I hate enforced rest - it's so frustrating! Any pain this morning?

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2025 10:40

@lucysmam Houdini was actually very well behaved! He loved his new big boy bed, which has to be climbed into using steps and necessitates the use of two guard rails so that he can only get in and out at the foot of the bed. He was not at all keen on being shut in, but promised to stay in his room if we left the gate open. And he did! His mum shut the gate once he was asleep, but when he was awake he just stayed in there and played, until eventually he put himself to bed. He was awake until around 9pm which is about when I usually go for my evening bath - so I had to wait until he was thoroughly asleep until I could do that.

He has also graduated to using the chair that my mum bought for my niece to use when she was little at the dining table. It's a small chair on long legs, but not a high chair, if that makes sense?

Natsku · 15/06/2025 10:41

Not Father's Day in Finland but I better call my dad in the UK to say happy Father's Day.

Lovely sunny day today but I have to finish cleaning the house thoroughly before my parents come next week so going to finish doing that then I might go for a swim in the lake, first outside swim of the year - shed my winter coat as the saying goes.

DS is finishing his lunch, then he'll play a little minecraft with OH then I think they'll both go to the beach. DD is fast asleep still.
