Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

Happy Father's Day to any dads on the thread this morning!

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have been fed and have vanished, and I have the second load of towels in the washer. The first is on the line. I need to take my tablets in a mo.

We don't have much planned for today, I don't think. Dd1's up and out to travel home from Lido festival in London - she'll get home around 4pm, I think. Dd2 wants to print a couple of past GCSE Biology papers to practise for her upcoming mock exam on Wednesday.

I'll have a slow, moochy kind of day - bit of house hunting & sending enquiries (the fun part of the day, obviously 🙄), bit of decluttering before we move, some trousers to take up, and try out my new pyrography tool I think. That'll probably take me to tea time!

We're having roast pork sandwiches with stuffing, gravy, and apple sauce for me 😋. I'll probably do some roast potatoes too.

Once we've tidied from tea it'll be early showers all round ready for the coming week. I'll have my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower - face mask, hair mask, shave legs, maybe tan, paint my toenails a different colour & consider changing my finger nails too - although I think they'll do this week. After that, I'll read for an hour or so, then an early night 💤.

What about everyone else? 🙂

‘Morning all!
It’s already 18° here and sunny, thankfully there’s a nice breeze too.
I’m enjoying my favourite breakfast/brunch - avocado and smoked salmon on sourdough with a big mug of milky coffee after taking the dogs out for a 3 mile walk. It was really too warm for ZDog2 who’s a flat faced cross breed so I won’t be bothering to wait for DH in the mornings while it’s warm.
He’s so dogmatic about his medication and breakfast it’s rare for him to be ready before 8.30 which is too late in warmer weather.
The washing machine is on and dinner’s prepared (lamb shanks, new potatoes, green beans and peas 😋) so I’m going to spend most of the day in my Shed doing more drawing!
Ooh! Chocolate concrete 😋 @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie , do you have a recipe? That brings back memories from 60+ years ago, at junior school.
Old school pink custard? My mum used to use strawberry blancmange powder and not let it set. Can you still get blancmange powders, Birds used to make it?

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2025 10:45

Old school pink custard (disclaimer - I've never actually made it!) Make it as if you were using custard powder, but use plain cornflour instead. So add sugar, cornflour, vanilla if you want it and a tiny bit of red food colouring.

However... my mum would have used pink blancmange mix (which is basically the same) and served it hot, probably thinning it down a bit.

Pinkflowersinavase · 15/06/2025 10:45

Taking dh out for fathers day lunch then visiting my own dad in hospital. Been in since Thursday ( 2nd time recently) having a 2nd operation start of the week. Feeling quite anxious.

DH and I spent 4.5 hours gardening yesterday so today is a lazy day.

The cat woke DH up at 4am for breakfast.

Getting cakes from the bakers for Father's Day and having an afternoon tea here.

Good Morning all. Hope

Just catching up with yesterday’s thread. Was such a busy day. Going to make father’s day brunch soon. Dog walking uniform sorting and tidying to do.

Captainladder · 15/06/2025 10:56

Morning all!

i want to know what marry me mushrooms are too @Eastendboysandwestendgirls!

that pink custard sounds fun

DH and I had brunch outside on the patio this morning - feels like we are on holiday! Reality will
kick in shortly - as I need to pick up a few bits from the shop (though the list is growing!!!) and collect teen2 from a sleepover.... and then de mould and possibly scrape off the ceiling paint from the bathroom... the extractor fan hasn't been working and it's caused all kinds of yuck in the bathroom.

pizza for dinner tonight and then am off to the theatre with some friends.

Hope the weather stays wonderful!

have a lovely Sunday

Crunchymum · 15/06/2025 11:09

Hello lucysmam and the weekend posse.

We're on a total go slow today. So far I've managed to do the litter trays, clear 2 clothes airers, first lot of washing ready to hang and second lot just on. Thankfully it's outside drying weather so I'll be able to get it all done today.

Older 2 have some chores (hoand then they can have an hour in the park across the road.

DC3 and I will nip to the shop for lunch supplies and I need to find something easy for the kids dinner. Maybe tacos or fajitas.

DP is at work and won't be back until after 7pm this evening but I'll order a takeaway when he is on route for our dinner later (his fave is Turkish Mezze - yummy!!)

This afternoon we may go out for a scoot / bike ride but early signs are no-one can be bothered for anything that energetic 😀

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 15/06/2025 11:09

@lucysmam no pain today thanks for asking. Just having to be patient.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 15/06/2025 11:25

@lucysmam thanks! In readiness for next month's PSB gig, am v excited.
For both you and @Captainladder - nothing wildly exciting about the MMMushrooms I'm afraid - I love the MM chicken sauce, but don't eat chicken so use mushrooms and spinach instead. I used the Taming Twins recipe, it's lovely.

mybrainpills · 15/06/2025 12:28

Dragged my arse out of bed at 10.30am.
Got no chores to do.
So going to chill all day in peace and quiet.

Chelsea26 · 15/06/2025 13:03

Afternoon all! Had quite a lazy Sunday so far, coffee in bed and then I made DP and I bacon sandwiches and we built a hammock that DSD is now snoozing in. She’s got one GCSE left and she’s done so well revising so she is welcome to it!

Our bed sheets are drying on the line so they will be nice to get into later.

DS1 has gone with his dad to do some putting practise, he’s got a broken foot so hasn’t been able to play golf foe a few weeks hopefully he’ll be allowed out of the boot from Thursday and back to normal.

DSS and DS2 are up in their rooms, probably gaming. The kids are all heading back to their other parents his afternoon and then DP and I are going to my mum and dad’s for a BBQ with some of their friends. DP’s mum is coming too.

Enjoy your Sundays xx

Thisday3 · 15/06/2025 13:04

Tired here after waking up to early. I never seemto lay in anymore! Sign of peri perhaps. I’ve put washing on and need to clean and tidy. Also have some work to do, which I’m avoiding. Going to walk the dog first. Just had croissants for brunch and fruit and granola. Left over Chinese takeaway for tea later. Enjoy your Sundays!

OneLilacEagle · 15/06/2025 13:12

Happy Sunday all. Currently standing in Argos, doing a few bits from the Never Ending list. Had a very enjoyable turkish lesson earlier and will need to get some more booked.

I'll do a bit more house and self care stuff and give the parents a call later. Indonesian chicken with mango salad for dinner, in spite of the terrible weather. We've had several very low key weekends in a row here but it's been very much needed. I think we were all feeling pretty burnt out. Looking forward to the summer holidays - 2 weeks to go here!

frozendaisy · 15/06/2025 13:27

Toast and coffee done
revision going on
washing on the line
that’s about as good as it’s going to get today after a champagne session with H last night

gingercat02 · 15/06/2025 13:41

Hello @lucysmam
Couldn't find you earlier. Just me and DS again today. He has revision to do, just had bacon/sausage sarnies for lunch. I've been to PiYo this morning and I'm starving.
Bit if gardening for me, more revision for DS.
Fajitas and the Canadian F1 this evening
Quiet day

TroysMammy · 15/06/2025 13:44

Good morning. Today I will be stripping - the wallpaper off the bedroom wall. It was partially done but I need to get a wriggle on as the plasterer is coming tomorrow.

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 13:45

@Eastendboysandwestendgirls took me longer than I care to admit to work out PSB = Pet Shop Boys 🤣. I'll look up the recipe, thanks!

I miss blancmange.

I don't think pink custard is just custard with colouring in though, as it used to have a very mild flavour of some sort - maybe strawberry?

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2025 16:01

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie My school rarely did pink custard and when it did it definitely wasn't strawberry flavoured... but our catering staff were all Spanish so it probably wasn't typical! Happy to stand corrected.

Elderflower14 · 15/06/2025 16:18

Afternoon all. Worked half 6 till half 9...My sister is staying so she drove Mum and I to Southwold. We walked on the pier and had a paddle in the sea. Home for toasted sandwiches... Now watching an old episode of The Bill. Going to cook Roast Pork shortly...

A quick google shows lots of recipes using blancmange mix as you said. I’ll have to try to track some down.

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 17:55

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Asda used to sell blancmange mix! Not a clue if they still do mind you. It was on the aisle with box cake and cheesecake mixes.

Thank you. We haven't got an Asda and I know Sainsbury's don't stock it, but I'll have look if Morrisons might have it.

lucysmam · 15/06/2025 19:14

Morrisons online shopping says they do! Or Ocado, amazon and ebay do too.
