Agree Karen is over. Eileen will never again be resurrected & the same with Noleen. I think Bonnie will not be back again for a while.

I know 2 little girls named Bonnie. Both under 6.

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/06/2025 10:08

I know a new baby called Scott and a baby Ivy. A pearl and an Albie All under one

Purplebunnie · 15/06/2025 10:40

Why all the hate for Bertha? There was a queen called Bertha

borderlaise · 15/06/2025 11:26

Albie is mega popular with babies

I know 2 Gary's under 10, I don't mind it!
Don't see a revival for Fanny, Percy, Keith or Hilda

My Great-Grandma was Hilda. I won't be naming any children after her 🤣

Cliff/Clifford
Barry
Bernard
Dennis
Kenneth
Edgar
Maurice/Morris
Leslie
Perry

I know “old” names sometimes make a surprising comeback, but I suspect most of the above are gone for good. All, strangely enough, are or were names of members of my family.

I actually know a toddler called Morris! I think you'd be surprised. Bernard i think will make a comeback soon as it has that distinguished vintage vibe to it.

Barry/ Garry/ Nigel/ Alan/ Sharon/ Tracy/ Wayne feel like they have negative connotations to them that might mean they are gone for good. But given enough time again maybe nostalgia for grandparents might bring them back.

There is a Bonnie in my sons class. Definitely not gone!

All the little boys near me seem to be called Teddy or Albie, the little girls Margot or Aoife if that's anything to go by!

I like those.

Well I guess it depends how many women today would be happy to be called Bertha rather than any other name available. I know I wouldn’t 😲

I did know a very cool Joan born in 80s, maybe due a revival? Helen also largely ignored these days.

My kids left compulsory education several year’s ago (a Tyler, Taylor, Mia, Ella era), I wonder what reception/primary are full of now?

Are there any baby/toddler Alan or Peters about, even that classic Michael is not a name I’ve seen under 50.

Kids of primary school age I know in the UK are Elijah (x2), Chloe, Lucas, Evan, Jacob, Lily, Willow, Oliver, Charlotte, Alexander, Maisie, Lacey (x2), Finley, Paige, Caitlin. Nursery age are Alyssa, Jessica, Noah, Georgia, Archie.

YourChirpyFatball · 15/06/2025 12:22

Epponnee-Rae.

Alice Maud was Queen Victoria's second daughter; Albert was the Prince Consort.

Maud and Albert are still bloody awful names, royal or not. Maud was once very fashionable, though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/06/2025 13:03

How about Lalage?

And Lettice! Who else is old enough to remember ‘Lettice Leefe, The Loveable Duffer’ in some old comic? Probably The School Friend.

Lettice is yet another Boris Johnson child.

Lettice is yet another Boris Johnson child.

It was also the name of a rather beautiful character in The Flame Trees Of Thika (80s TV drama) now I come to think of it.
Adaptation of the book - true-life memoirs of pre 1914 Kenya. Poor Lettice had a very boring husband, and the much more attractive man she had a wild affair with was killed in WW1.

Well, I suppose it's better than many names people choose!

Would you feel the same about a baby Heath?

Maud and Albert are still bloody awful names, royal or not. Maud was once very fashionable, though.

The reason names may come back is because we all have different tastes. I think Albert's a great name and it was on the list for our third in 1998 along with Arthur, Oscar and Oliver, but the third was a girl! Calling a.child Albert would also have involved my favourite Bridge and it's a better name than Brooklyn! Bertie is lovely.

DD got a simple classic, something a bit frillier in the middle and an old lady name for the third. The first and third nods to our grandmothers.
