If you have a nose around on darkgreener.com you can see the trends for various names.

i know of an 8 year old Hector, i think it is a lovely name

SuziQuinto · 14/06/2025 19:16

These girls are 15/16

Trend setters.

BunnyLake · 14/06/2025 19:26

Haven’t come across a Hester or Hazel since my school days many moons ago (when there seemed to be four Susans and three Sharons in every class).

AmythestBangle · 14/06/2025 19:27

Mavis has had a revival.

I have a soft spot for that name as I loved Hector’s House as a kid. 😁

I like the name Hamish but I don’t think you see it much outside Scotland.

Loub1987 · 14/06/2025 19:28

I think all names come in and out of fashion. I know several olives, Audrey’s, one Ian and one Gary in my daughters nursery.

Mavis has had a revival.

Makes me think of Mavis Riley so I couldn’t get passed that.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 14/06/2025 19:29

Cyril and Sheila. Cyril is just awful.

The made up ones. All the Jaydens and Kaydens.

Edited

Aren't all names made up?

I just looked. One of mine is in the top 100, the other is nearer 3000.

Bertha got a 0, no surprise there

ZenNudist · 14/06/2025 19:33

All of these are reasonable names if currently unfashionable. I should imagine that the parents of the future may once again love Deborah Trevor and Kelvin and consider many names popular right now to be beyond the pale.

SuziQuinto · 14/06/2025 19:33

I really disliked the name Olive because of the character from On The Buses, but actually it's really popular now and a nice name.

karoba · 14/06/2025 19:35

A lot of the -een names - Maureen, Kathleen, Doreen, Noreen, Eileen, Irene

Haven’t come across a Hester or Hazel since my school days many moons ago (when there seemed to be four Susans and three Sharons in every class).

A boyfriend of mine back in the day cheated on me with a really beautiful girl called Hester. She’d be about 26/27 now. But I have to say, she’s the only one I’d ever heard of. Beautiful name but I couldn’t bring myself to suggest it for my daughter, so put Esther on the shortlist instead 😂
And a friend of mine had a little Hazel a couple of months ago. I’ve heard it a few times recently. It’s funny how it varies!

So true!

I know a baby Ian and I laugh in my head whenever I think of his wee face.

Notreallyme27 · 14/06/2025 19:36

I don’t think they’ll die, they’ll have a resurgence and the young, trendy folk with think they’re beautiful names while older people will remember them as their Granny and Grandad’s friends.

20 years ago you’d never have expected to ever see another Frank, Alfie, Reggie, Ronnie, Archie, Agatha, Evelyn, Elsie, Ivy, Florence, etc. They were another level of dated, yet here we are!

I think the Garys and Sharons will make a comeback.

Olive

I know two Olives! One is 14 months and one a newborn.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/06/2025 15:18

I'm outraged - I have a 14 year old called Basil.

He is a cat though 🤣

surely Karen has now missed the revival boat, Sharon and Wayne were yuk first time around.
A lot of the others people have mentioned:
Basil
Maud
horace
vincent, seem really popular at the moment.

Lisa won’t die out.

I work with Lisas who are in their early 30s. I haven't taught one since about 2005.

JustAnInchident · 14/06/2025 14:50

Definitely Gary. Keith maybe, possibly Kevin? Vernon?
I know a couple of little Percys, preschool age.

Edited

Percy? Are you serious? I can’t think how any parent could call their child Percy!

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2025 19:38

Honestly, it's true! Percy is back!

Ilikeadrink14 · 14/06/2025 19:38

AmythestBangle · 14/06/2025 19:27
