@Lavenderfarmcottage i know two toddlers called Bonnie!

Someone upthread said Doreen - that was my nanna’s name - I can’t see it coming back, it’s not pretty like some of the other old lady names but I could be wrong. I’m not keen to use it as a middle name for a future DD although I would use my grandad’s name for a DS (the ever classic, John)

Olive is really quite popular at the moment 😂

Love Olive.

I know a 6 year old Dawn, it really suits her!

Dawn is a sunrise. Beautiful name.

DoraSpenlow · 14/06/2025 17:32

I wish Florence would die out. It's one of my middle names (thanks Nan) and as soon as it came out at school I was called Florrie for the rest of my time there. Absolutely hate it.

stripeysockrock · 14/06/2025 17:35

ShellieAnn · 14/06/2025 14:45

Keith, Barbara, Barry, Tracy, Mark.

Not Mark, I know several 12 and under!

Meandmouse · 14/06/2025 17:38

I know loads of under 18 Mark’s . I have also met a few little Franks recently . Mainly called Frankie though

Dawn

That’s my middle name and I love it! My daughter and grandaughter both have it as a middle name too.

Quashsquash · 14/06/2025 17:42

This thread is hilarious - it contains my name, my parents' names, my grandparents' names, my husband's name, my sister's name and my son's name. 😂
My mum had a few friends called Lois, but no one from my generation had that as a name - it is now making a bit of a comeback however.

JudgeJ · 14/06/2025 17:44

Crunchymum · 14/06/2025 14:53

It's one of my favourite girls names. Along with Pearl, Jean and Rose.

Definitely fits in with the old lady names which are currently back en vougue.

Someone with m/f twins could call them Pearl and Dean!

We can never say what names will be around, many of the really popular names now I would have laughed at in the 70s! I taught an Archibald around then and felt very sorry for him but Archie is now in vogue.

Advocodo · 14/06/2025 17:45

Feel Linda will die out and perhaps Susan too!

At least it wasn't abbreviated to Flossie, which was Aunt's everyday name.

I know a teenage Flossie, so that abbreviation is still going.

Viviennemary · 14/06/2025 17:48

I think Walter has completely died out. Don't know any that wouldn't be over 100 today.

Cushionseams · 14/06/2025 17:50

I remain mystified that "Emily" ever became popular again.

Left · 14/06/2025 17:50

Sacheverell

I think one family in the UK are keeping it going - would love to see a revival as it’s so rare.

tammienorrie · 14/06/2025 16:06

The currently unfashionable names associated with people in their 50s - 70s like Donna, Karen, Keith, Darren, Janet, Carol - will all come back again. 20 years ago people would have been scoffing at babies ever being called Ruby, Winston or Agnes.

Ruby was coming in and considered cool when I had babies in the mid to late 90s.

Along with Edith, Grace, Martha. The name that has bowled me over with its popularity is May. I thought that was well and truly gone.

I’m not sure why that one hasn’t come back - it’s better than a lot of the names of that generation that have become popular again.

Graters · 14/06/2025 17:12

Female versions of male names eg Pauline

And the obvious names associated with bad people/organisations:
Adolf
Myra
Isis
And to some extent: Gary (Glitter), Donald, Maxine (Carr)

Alexa

Karen as it's become an insult

Edited

Not sure about the former point. Alexandra, Victoria, Harriet, Henrietta, Charlotte, Stephanie, Danielle/Daniella, Gabrielle/Gabriela, Georgina, Christine/Christina. Not all of those are currently in the top 20 but they're still used, I think.

I will admit I can't see Edwina coming back any time soon, nor any of the old names often used in Scotland a century ago - Jamesina, Wilhelmina, Alexandrina, all usually abbreviated to Ina. We had an Auntie Teenie in the family, whose name I assume was Christina.

Boiseguy66 · 14/06/2025 17:51

I know Karen and Darren are not going anywhere they both live together and hate everyone

Grin Not a bad earworm for the rest of the afternoon!

Mildred, Deirdre, Ena, Ethel, Euphemia, Beryl

Darren, Timothy, Lionel, Denis, Martin, Gordon

I'm not in the UK but I know a 2 year old, half-British Lionel.

BunnyLake · 14/06/2025 17:55

Most of the names dying out make great names for pets!

I can’t see Mildred ever coming back or any of the old lady names that are devoid of any charm (Gladys, Joyce, Deidre).

Slightly more modern ones I’d be surprised to ever see on a baby again:

Malcolm
Clive
Bruce
Gillian
Sandra
Janet
Janice
