Anyone else starting C25k?

Creu · 12/06/2025 19:23

I started Couch to 5k today and wondered if anyone else was starting at a similar time and wanted to have a chat about how they are finding it?

I’ve never been able to go running and have tried C25k twice and have given up early on so going to try and persevere this time!

I really enjoyed my 1st run today (glad there wasn’t too much actual running!) even though it was warm and raining. When I got home I felt really good.

Planning to do my next tomorrow as I’ve got a busy weekend and am unlikely to get a chance to go out and run.

Anyone?

I’m thinking of doing it and perhaps this post has persuaded me! Im a lapsed runner and need to get back to it. Im glad you enjoyed it - it’s such a great programme; you just have to trust it. Will report back!

Frannieisnthappy · 12/06/2025 22:39

I keep saying I will and then dont. I need to do something though - not only for health but mainly my mental health.

Potentially I could do my first run on Sat or Sunday. Shall I come back and post for accountability?

I'm another one that keeps saying I will do this and hasn't yet started! Will be good to have somewhere to report back, I need that accountability.

Have just downloaded the app again and will do run 1 tomorrow or Saturday.

Creu · 13/06/2025 07:48

Great!

@MrJumpyLegsooh - have you completed C25K before? Please do report back!

@FrannieisnthappyI know what you mean about mental health, whether I’m exercising or not has such an impact on how I’m feeling. If you can find the time and manage to get out over the weekend and please tell us how you got on.

@Lindtballsforbreakfast(love the username!) please let us know how you get on. Have you ever tried C25k before?

OfDragonsDeep · 13/06/2025 07:51

I’m not doing it, but I wanted to say good luck! As I did it at the end of 2023 and have kept up running since.

I can now run 5 and 10ks. I’ll never be fast, but doing this for my health feels amazing!

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 13/06/2025 07:54

I need to do this again. I did it during lockdown although I never found it easy and stopped once I started working again. It’s a good excuse to leave the house at lunchtime when WFH. I’m away at the moment but will sign in when I’m back next week.

Lindtballsforbreakfast · 13/06/2025 20:37

@Creu I have previously completed it but 8 years ago maybe! I only ever ran 5ks but the benefits for both my physical and mental health were massive.

Only just finished work for the day, 3 hours later than scheduled so it will be tomorrow now that I do run 1 as I'm shattered.

Creu · 13/06/2025 21:51

I’m going to go out first thing tomorrow morning - was 26° here at lunchtime and I don’t think I could have ran in that 🥵

@JurgenKloppsTeethgreat news, welcome!! Look forward to hearing about your first run

@Lindtballsforbreakfast& @OfDragonsDeep I’m so glad to hear that! You’re inspiring me (I’ll need the inspiration 😂)

I am midway through week 5. My legs killed first few runs but has got better!

I’m at exactly the same point! Last run of week 5 tomorrow.
It’s been up and down - managed it all though tomorrow’s sounds challenging. I find it’s a lot easier on the flat, even a little hill I struggle with.
I do a lot of swimming too - do a masterswim class - I cancelled this weeks after the first one as I really struggled. Booked on next week instead, hope more to my liking!

Creu · 13/06/2025 23:36

Week 5 seems like ages away 😂

I’m worried that the programme is going to move too quickly for me, please reassure me that it’s totally doable?!

I’ve just started week 3 and enjoyed it tonight

Justanothermum9421 · 13/06/2025 23:48

I did c25k back during lockdown and really surprised myself that I was able to manage it! Definitely need to start again.
It is totally doable OP, you've got this. If you maybe are finding it a bit too much of a step up at any point just repeat the previous week 😊

MummyInTheNecropolis · 14/06/2025 00:31

I’ve just repeated week 4 as didn’t feel ready for week 5 - still not sure I’m ready to move on yet! Finding it quite tough but I am very overweight and unfit!

Lindtballsforbreakfast · 14/06/2025 19:04

Week 1 run 1 complete today. Was absolutely fine which I was surprised at considering I haven't ran for so long. Will see how the knees feel tomorrow though as that's definitely my weak point!

popandchoc · 14/06/2025 21:45

You can redo runs or weeks if you are struggling. Did week 5 run 2 today and surprised myself by being ok. Honestly didn't think i would be here 5 weeks ago.

WhoWouldBeAWoman · 14/06/2025 22:11

@Creu trust the process!
I've done it a few times over the last 5 years either after injury or losing my running mojo. It often takes me longer than 9 weeks, often I need to repeat a week or a run, or build myself up to that first 20 minute run. But it has worked every time and I'm always so surprised!
I've ran a few 10k races and just back in to 5k races after a year off with a sore foot.
Enjoy it!

lastintheQ · 15/06/2025 01:29

I've been on week 3 for about 4 weeks now! I'm not making progress as I have been feeling rubbish, various dramas with the kids etc. But I've done it at least once a week. My view is anything is better than nothing and I will get there eventually.

I did make it all the way through C25K once and then built up to a 10km run but that was over 5 years ago.

Creu · 16/06/2025 14:14

I didn’t manage to get out over the weekend in the end, it was as busy as I had predicted!

I decided I had to just brave the heat and go out at lunch today. It was very very hot, but I really enjoyed the run. Way more than I thought I would.

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
popandchoc · 16/06/2025 14:17

I braved lunchtime as well, hard trying to work out when to do it when it's so hot.

Well done for going out and glad you are enjoying it.

Just finished week 5 and am impressed by how the programme works. Never thought i'd be able to run this long!

Neves7 · 16/06/2025 14:34

I recently completed C25K and am slowly working on 10k.
i found that I had to start with only two runs a week or I had hip/groin area pain (muscle not joint) but worked up to 3-4 times a week now with no issues. I did repeat weeks whenever I felt I needed to so it took me a lot longer than planned. The other key is to run as slowly as you need to to keep running. It’s a lot slower than I initially started out but it works!

This is giving me so much hope! Well done for making it as far as week 5 💪🏼

I’m ‘running’ very slowly as I am still recovering from injury. Well done on finishing C25k.

How are you finding training for 10k?
