Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 09:33

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in silence! I have heard alarms from upstairs though so no doubt someone will be down shortly to break that peace 🙄.

We have nothing in particular planned for today. Bacon sarnys for brunch ish, tidy round and hoover will feature somewhere. As will cleaning the bathroom and washing the towels.

Dd1 worked yesterday & has two exams on Tuesday so probably a day of revision for her after a relaxed morning of nothing much. Dd2 also wants to carry on with revision for her upcoming mock GCSE exams.

I'll spend the day between pottering and crafting. I'll varnish this week's peg people and start something new but not sure what yet - probably more people tbh; I have an impressive list of requests from work for September.

This evening it's a roast chicken dinner for tea, followed by early ish showers. I'll have my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, then paint my toe nails, stick some false nails, maybe tan if I cba (probably not!) and settle down with my book for an hour before heading to bed earlier than the girls ready for the week 💤💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam ! I read your weekend threads often and love the coziness. I am super intrigued by your peg people.... you make them so often for work.... why?! What do they get used for? Can we see one? 🫣 I know that's super nosey but I really would love to....
I'm about to get up and have my second coffee and consider breakfast options.
Today I need to consider what's for dinner this week and then go for a fresh veg and milk shop. DH and I will be making a plan for a European road trip we are planning with the kids over the summer.... and look at our budget!
I need to change the cat litter and bedsheets and do a uniform and a shirts wash.
All this hopefully at a very slow pace, I love the weekends for that!

Already knackered. DC in swim class. Looking after elderly parents after

Chipsahoy · 08/06/2025 09:48

Morning all, sunshine here this morning, very welcome after a rainy cool day yesterday.
Weve had breakfast and just enjoying tea while the youngest dc watches minions movie for the 100th time. Older dc are still sleeping.

Soon dh, dc3 and I will go out to a nearby castle for a wander around their gardens and loch. Then home to mow the fields and perhaps some house work. I’m also hoping dh will sand the hallway walls that have just been replaced so I can crack on and paint this week! Reno project house life!

Have a wonderful Sunday all.

CalicoPusscat · 08/06/2025 09:49

Morning all, just sitting in a park on my way to hospital. The weather has improved, HALLELUJAH. It's nice to feel some sun.

Watching a film, considering a food festival. After that winding back home.

Darn sun's just gone in...still better than the recent rain

PearlsPearl · 08/06/2025 09:53

Morning all, hurrah for Sunday. We're up nice and early as about to head into Edinburgh for the day. DW and I are going to a lego brick show thing, which we're both looking forward to. Lazy DS couldn't be prised out of bed and has chosen to not come which is a shame, he'll miss out and probably sleep the day away.

Will get some street food for lunch afterwards. Yum. I'm off to church first, where I'm doing a reading as part of our Pride celebration. Love the unitarians for bringing me spirituality that accepts my family :)

troppibambini6 · 08/06/2025 09:54

Morning @lucysmamand everyone else I enjoy these threads and would love to see the peg people too.
im still in pjs. Just had a coffee and a bake in the oven croissant. Not normally a breakfast eater but had a super busy day yesterday and when I went to bed I realised I’d not eaten much. Woke up this morning starving!

Yesterday was a full day of football tournaments and football presentations. I was out of the house 8-8. Dd had some friends over while we were out so today is going to be a family effort of putting the house back together and getting ready for the week back to school.

im taking dd to netball at 11 too and might do a roast for later.

NachoCheesed · 08/06/2025 09:55

Good morning MN! I’m just pottering this morning - the sun is shining so I’ve popped my behemoth sunflower in the garden. It’s been sat on my windowsill for the last couple of weeks, I’ve grown it from seed and it’s roots were busting out of the pot so time for it to be a big girl and grow outside.

I'm on my second pot of coffee and managed to have that in peace - girl child hasn’t risen yet and boy child had a sleepover last night. DP is on a work trip and will be back in time for the lamb roast we’re having today.

It’s a entertain yourself kinda day today as most Sundays are in this house -although I think DP and I will either book the squash court or go on a 10/12 mile walk as we need to get some exercise in.

They're used on displays throughout school/in classrooms to represent the characters from the books we read. Blank peg people are often used in nursery/reception settings too - to encourage imaginative play; they can become who, or what, you want them to be.

I've attached photos of the latest ones - Ocean Meets Sky, and The Three Little Pigs. They'll be placed on their relevant displays, outside the classrooms, tomorrow morning. (The laid down gold one is a fish - I never think they look right but no idea where to buy actual fish shaped ones 🤷‍♀️).

I have a decorator over tomorrow so I'm getting the rooms ready and cleaning up.

frozendaisy · 08/06/2025 09:56

Morning all,

MrFrozen is currently battling the coffee pot it’s definitely his turn!

Youngster made croissants at 8am because everyone is up bright-eyed and bushy tailed on Sunday aren’t they!

Squabbling with a 16 year old today about revision, biology mostly. My rock’n’roll life for sure.

Only one more weekend of this then I can pretend to be French and drink champagne for breakfast or something!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/06/2025 09:57

Well, the last of the rainy weather has come and gone, I've vowed to stop pining over Christmas and to try and enjoy the summer for what it is

So today, gonna clean the living room, watch Sunday brunch and then satc, and flick through some vogue magazines, and eat grapes

Have a lovely one 😘

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 09:58

@PearlsPearl a lego brick show sounds intriguing - is it literally just the bricks? Or things people have made from lego?

Usual start to Sunday here. PiYo for me in a few minutes. DH is going to run and sort the kitchen, because he CBA last night.
If it doesn't rain we are going to cut the hedge this afternoon. Rock and roll Sunday 🤣

Peridot1 · 08/06/2025 10:07

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Been up ages as usual. Was supposed to have a group call with friends in Australia and New Zealand but one is ill so we cancelled. Did my puzzles with a cup of tea. Then went out for a walk in the sunshine as it’s due to cloud over later. Ordered some plants to finish off the pots on my patio. Had some more tea and some toast. Need to empty the dishwasher and go for a shower.

Nothing much planned today - maybe some ironing. And I need to sew a button on a shirt. And I have a pair of trousers I want to take to be shortened so I might get that sorted so I can take them this week with another couple of things that need mending.

Roast chicken for dinner here too later.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 08/06/2025 10:14

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I love your peg people!
This morning I have had two coffees, a cuppa and a slice of toast. The dishwasher is running and I've been to Aldi to get the stuff I forgot on Friday. I plan to weed my drive. It's the messiest part of my garden by far and I keep putting it off. I'm about to have a cuppa and a scone but I'll do a quick half hour on the drive first. Little and often is my motto. Dd plans to visit later with the boys, so I have stuff looked out for them to play with (thank you Aldi). Dinner will be chicken and leek pie. Enjoy your day

WhineAndWine1 · 08/06/2025 10:15

Quiet day today finished my holiday shopping yesterday so need to work out what I have to take to Turkey 20 days and counting 😍. Still to get sun screen and some liras. Need to gut this house as it is driving me completely insane and prep work for next week.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 08/06/2025 10:16

Morning all. I was awake early and had a lovely hour in bed on Mumsnet/instagram etc. so happy to see the sun is back.

im going to have a brain reset day - chores, admin, fresh air and nice food! Much better for resetting me for the week than socialising or tv, if if they’re fun!

currently stood in my bathroom typing this out while I wait for the washing machine to finish. I stripped the beds first thing but the bloody thing keeps adding more minutes on. Need to get it in the tumble drier so my next load can go on,

RabbitsRock · 08/06/2025 10:20

Good morning @lucysmam & The Sunday Crew. DH & I are in bed having had a lovely cuppa made by him. Found out I’ve won £60 in an online charity raffle. It’s brilliant because entries are really low & I’ve had several prizes (usually take the cash equivalent). Last time it was £270 which came at a time when we were really up against it. Tickets are from £2 & never more than a tenner. Possibly treating us to a Chinese tonight as I hadn’t planned anything for tea. Need to do a bit of decluttering. DD16 keeps dumping bags of stuff out on the landing & then we can’t pin her down as to what she wants to keep & what she’s unsure about. In the end we just have to chuck it. After months of trying to get her to sort her craft drawers, DH got rid of the whole unit. Weeks later, DD finally noticed & got stroppy because her stuff had gone! If we didn’t do this we would drown as I have loads of bags & piles everywhere too! DD also needs to photograph 3 bags of clothes to put on Vinted. She wants money for merch at an upcoming festival & concerts. Feels like we’re living in a warehouse. We need Stacey Solomon & team! Although that programme makes me feel better as our house is nowhere near as cluttered as what you see on there. Looks like it could be a nice day so I’ll go for a walk at some point & maybe sit in the garden with a book. Can’t remember the last time I read one. There’s a load of washing to be hung out & the kitchen surfaces need a wipe down - DH does loads but for some reason rarely cleans the worktops. Need to finish watching Paddington in Peru - put it on quite late last night & DH was falling asleep about a third of the way through. It’s not as good as the previous films anyway. Not sure what we’ll watch tonight. We’ve seen one episode of Code of Silence with Rose Ayling - Ellis which seemed promising. Have a lovely Sunday all 🙂

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 10:24

Not sure why but one of my photos has flagged as sensitive content - it's 2 people & a goldfish - I'm not trying to show anyone anything they might not want to see. I promise 🙂

Been a busy weekend as DS was gigging in Nottingham with his band so we stayed over Friday. Mum also in hospital so visited her yesterday straight off the motorway. Absolutely shattered especially as i have my own health struggles. Anyway, just showering. Ds and dh still snoozing but Ds wants to go to our local music festival later so after I've fed my mums cat and before the hospital I've said we'll go for a couple of hours. Tonight, dh ans ds off to Manchester for some guitar related fixes with their friend. I'll probably collapse on the sofa and catch up on a couple of my programmes. Mum due to come out tomorrow with a care package so HOPEFULLY things will be a bit easier

TanyaMcQuoidHunt · 08/06/2025 10:26

Morning!

Not a lot here. Kids are at an activity this morning. I'm about to have my shower and will then nip to the shops for something for lunch and some bits for the week. Will pick up the kids, make lunch and then do homework etc. Maybe tidy up a bit but I honestly am not feeling overly motivated today

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 10:29

@RabbitsRock dd1 mostly relies on a loan from the Bank of Mum for merch, then repays on pay day - often with gig tickets 💶. I'm not sure she's fussed about Lido merch, she didn't buy at All Points East last year either even though Mitski was the headliner.

Its dull and cloudy here again, we’ve been out for a family walk with the dog this morning and we saw some little geese families on the lake.

Nothing exciting planned here, I need to clean the kitchen kickboards, they’re dog and cat hair central at the moment.

School breaks up on Wednesday for the summer holidays, so we’ve had a few boring weekends so we can save a bit more fun stuff for then.

Have a good saturday.

RabbitsRock · 08/06/2025 10:33

@lucysmam DD is after Charli merch - everything always seems to be eyewateringly expensive. She was showing me some Maisie Peters merch yesterday & there was a PJ bundle for £115 if you please!
