Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in silence! I have heard alarms from upstairs though so no doubt someone will be down shortly to break that peace 🙄.

We have nothing in particular planned for today. Bacon sarnys for brunch ish, tidy round and hoover will feature somewhere. As will cleaning the bathroom and washing the towels.

Dd1 worked yesterday & has two exams on Tuesday so probably a day of revision for her after a relaxed morning of nothing much. Dd2 also wants to carry on with revision for her upcoming mock GCSE exams.

I'll spend the day between pottering and crafting. I'll varnish this week's peg people and start something new but not sure what yet - probably more people tbh; I have an impressive list of requests from work for September.

This evening it's a roast chicken dinner for tea, followed by early ish showers. I'll have my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, then paint my toe nails, stick some false nails, maybe tan if I cba (probably not!) and settle down with my book for an hour before heading to bed earlier than the girls ready for the week 💤💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Simonjt it’s Sunday 🙂

Cakeandcoffee93 · 08/06/2025 10:36

Good morning all
im currently warming my toes under the covers whilst my 5y dd watches cartoons. We are both cocooned in pjamas. Had my morning coffee, might go swimming later. About to make another filter coffee. Should get out of bed but it’s too warm, Sundays are the best, had the best news yesterday I’m going to be an aunty again. Life is good

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 10:38

@RabbitsRock crikey. I don't mind £50 or so for a sweater, but £115 for pj's is just stupid! I pulled faces when she spent £45 on a tour dates t-shirt for Brad Simpson (of the Vamps - it took me ages to work out who he was). £25 tops seems reasonable to me, but what do I know 🤷‍♀️

@Simonjt you've just given us all an extra weekend day 🥳 thanks!

I’ve just made breakfast (pancakes with Nutella, raspberries and blueberries and freshly squeezed orange juice 😋) and am sitting watching the dog and the chickens potter around the garden. DH is still in bed with a cup of tea, probably watching Star Trek YouTube videos or something and DS is playing on his computer. Off to a farm park this afternoon with my niece for her birthday whilst DH does some sorting and cooks dinner. All washing is done for Monday, I’ll put it all away whilst watching trashy telly with a facemask on after dinner.

taxi4ballet · 08/06/2025 10:43

Bacon sandwiches consumed and been to the paper shop. DH and I like doing the crossword in the I Weekend newspaper so we might do that in a bit. We're crap at it, and rarely finish it, but we give it a go anyway. He will be taking DD to the station shortly.

I'm toying with doing some stuff in the front garden in a while, the bushes have all gone mad and are overhanging the footpath.

We're having roast chicken for dinner once DD comes back from London, so an evening meal today. I much prefer Sunday lunch at lunchtime, but we never seem to have the time for that - it always gets pushed back to later in the day.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 08/06/2025 10:46

Currently lying on a stunning beach in Skiathos, watching the families of two huge private yachts live another life racing their jet skis and speedboats across the ocean. They’re just got staff setting up for lunch now on a private cove.
Ho hum. Home tomorrow!

DilemmaDelilah · 08/06/2025 10:56

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I was up at 9am and I went straight down to the kitchen to make the flapjacks and cheese scones I thought I was going to make yesterday. The flapjacks (sultana, pumpkin seed and sunflower seed) are in the oven right now, due to come out in about 15 minutes, and the cheese scones (actually cheese and chive) will go in afterwards. We will probably have soup with a scone for lunch, or maybe just scones.

I don't have anything else planned for today, except clearing up the mess I have made in the kitchen. I have run out of ooomph for the moment so that will need to wait for a bit. Mr Dilemma has kindly started on it for the moment by putting stuff in the dishwasher and doing some hand washing up, but there will still be a lot to do when he finishes.

Mr Dilemma is going to fit a babygate at the top of the stairs when he has finished faffing around/helping me in the kitchen. Toddler Houdini has an extra tall babygate on the door of his bedroom, but he can climb over that. My daughter says the gate at the top of the stairs is to deter him from going into all the bedrooms during the day - she doesn't want it shut at night as he will just climb over it which would be even more dangerous. The hope is that he will make enough noise climbing over the one on his bedroom door to wake somebody up. Daughter and Houdini are coming to stay for a few days on Thursday. I'm so excited!

My sisters (probably without husbands but who knows!) are coming for lunch on Tuesday. Not sure what time - hopefully they will let me know. We're just having cold chicken and salads with baked potatoes, so it's a pretty moveable feast. That's one reason for making the flapjacks. One sister really likes them so I'm making some for her to take home. The other sister (the one that isn't fussy about her food like me - apparently) doesn't like them so she won't have any. I'm not giving away the cheese scones! Mind you, she probably doesn't like cheese scones either. It's really amazing the things that somebody who is not at all fussy about her food doesn't like.

Not entirely sure what we're eating this evening... it's going to be something made with chicken breasts as that is what Mr Dilemma got out of the freezer. It may be curry - Mr Dilemma wanted chicken in a bag but we have run out of any vegetables except onions and celery, no carrots, no potatoes, no green beans or any other vegetables. Our grocery delivery is tomorrow so I'm not going to buy any more today. His next suggestion was spicy chicken and rice, which is nice but not really what I fancy. I suggested curry but he likes different curry to me which means he would have to cook his own. I would like chicken fricasee but he doesn't fancy that. He is currently huffing around as if I'm asking him to do the most difficult thing in the world.

I'm now about to have a cup of coffee. Decaff and made with skimmed milk. Coffee doesn't like me and my guts don't like it, even decaffeinated and low fat, but I haven't had any for a very long time and I'm not going out or anywhere far from a loo, so I'm going to have one anyway.

Crunchymum · 08/06/2025 10:57

Morning lucysmam and the Sunday gang.

These are definitely my favourite threads on MN.

Yesterday was wet and miserable so we had a lazy day. The weather finally seems to be on the up (well its not raining at least!) which suits our plans today.

DC1 is off out with his friends family today, they are going to the Horniman Museum & Gardens.

DC2 has a party - outdoor laser tag at the nearby(ish) woods.

DC3 also has a party at the new indoor softplay which has a zip line and everything.

Of course all 3 children need to be at different places and different times so we're tag teaming. I've taken the softplay party as me and few of the other mums will have overpriced coffee and cake and a catch up. We'll collect DC1 on route home.

Not sure how much food will be consumed at the respective parties so I have a pot of bolognese for later and I'll do some pasta and salad for anyone who is hungry.

In-between dropping and collecting DC2 at the woods, DP needs to start varnishing the stairs (and prior to that he'll have to catch 2 cats and contain them somewhere, which will probably take longer than the varnishing 😆)

ElliotNess · 08/06/2025 11:15

Good morning all, thank you @lucysmam for another lovely thread. Was up early(ish) with kitten so had breakfast in bed whilst listening to my favourite podcast, then downstairs to hoover and mop the floors whilst DD is at her Dad’s house.

Once the floors are dried I’m going to start prepping a roast, put DD’s new bike together, and finish the laundry.

Later on it’ll be a nice dinner, early showers, and then I might try for some self-care in the form of hair mask, nails, fake tan whilst catching up on Interior Design Masters.

Zippedydodah · 08/06/2025 11:16

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone, it was sunny earlier but now it’s really cloudy here.
I was out early with ZDog2, as usual, a lovely peaceful hour with the funny little sausage.
DH has, as usual, taken ZDog1 to the village for coffee and gossip.
The washing machine is one, one more load to do and I’m hoping it’ll dry on the line.
Gammon in maple and mustard sauce for dinner, new potatoes, sugar snap peas and baby sweetcorn with banoffee pie for pudding 😋
I’m so glad it’s stopped raining, my garden has been well battered so I will be spending the afternoon trying to sort it out- I have over 45 roses bushes and climbers that need dead heading and tying back up. Living on a SW facing hillside means we get clobbered despite backing onto woodland. I think there’s a wind tunnel effect or something!

loopylalalu · 08/06/2025 11:23

My second night being restless.
Hopefully tonight ill sleep.
Today im doing nothing at all.

oustedbymymate · 08/06/2025 11:25

Just enjoying a cup of tea. Our DC stayed at my DM last night for the first time. They are 2.5 and 5! It's the first time in three years DH and I have had a child free morning. We got up an hour ago!

Will be going to pick them up shortly.

Then pottering playing crafting. Would like to re pot some plants but looks like it's going to rain.

OneLilacEagle · 08/06/2025 11:26

Morning all. Had the best sleep I've had for ages last night so feeling good today. Had a lovely breakfast of truffle baked eggs - so fancy! DH and DS are currently Mario carting then they are off to the cub garden fete. I'm going to stay here and get some chores done in peace. Later I'll watch an episode of Chelsea detective and do some cross stitch or maybe have a bath with my Simple Things mag. Don't know if anyone else reads it but it fits well with this thread! Dinner tonight is chicken with turmeric and lemongrass which DH marinated this morning. Have a peaceful day, all.

zingally · 08/06/2025 11:26

Not much planned here. I've just heard the dishwasher do its "I'm finished!" beep, so I'll go and put that stuff away.
Will run the hoover round downstairs, and need to mop the kitchen and hallway.

Also need to sort out an overnight bag for tomorrow, as after work I'm heading straight for a train to Birmingham to see a show. Then spending the night there. I'm great at travelling light, especially for a one-night stopover, so that won't take long.

Then I want to settle in for the afternoon with my book. I'm reading a really good one at the moment, but I'm struggling to carve out time to get stuck into it. I'm feeling like it might be good to put a film on later.

InglouriousBasterd · 08/06/2025 12:00

Morning (just!) all! Both me and DD have had a lurg of some description and I still have a headache so taking it easy today. Need to finish a bit of cleaning and the towels are in the wash. We’re heading into town for a little wander later and I’m sticking a bolognese sauce in the slow cooker for dinner. Hopefully a quiet afternoon with my book.

Have a lovely Sunday

Chelsea26 · 08/06/2025 12:38

Afternoon all! Just me and DP here this morning so a Very lazy morning today, coffee and cuddles in bed until about 10:30. Got up and made smoky shakshuka which was delicious topped with feta and jalapeños. Are that with some flat bread while catching up on Race Across the World.

This afternoon we’re popping to B&Q for a few garden bits including some colourful pots for our new patio (I imagine it’s going to get quite expensive but worth it I think) and a pop to Sainsbury’s.

Steak and three cheese and bacon dauphinois for dinner tonight which is my absolute favourite so roll on dinner time!

dontforgetme · 08/06/2025 12:56

Good afternoon @lucysmam and all.

A little late to the party this morning as have had a very poorly Prosecco head! Been playing uno and on the VR with ds. Plans for today are more games, clean out the hamster and a gammon roast. Other than that a pretty chilled one. Kids will pick a film tonight and it’ll be early nights all round. Busy week ahead (as usual) and also have my smear tomorrow which I’m not looking forward to one bit.

Have lovely Sundays all.

Captainladder · 08/06/2025 13:05

@lucysmam those are gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing them - what a great idea. Your school is very lucky to have you!

mondaytosunday · 08/06/2025 13:38

Very slow start to the day, but I didn’t go to bed til 3am last night so…
I’m just eating first meal of the day. It’s my usual breakfast but not sure what to call it now - lunch I guess.
No plans. I’m taking lunch over to a friend tomorrow who just had a breast cancer op so will plan that and might have to go to the shops. Might get some plants in the garden that are still sitting in their pots!
I’ll do some crocheting while listening to YouTube (mostly other crocheters).
Dinner is leftovers, some sort of beef stew/rice thingy. Not my fave but it’s got to be eaten! I’ll watch the rest of 3% on Netflix.

lucysmam · 08/06/2025 14:46

@zingally I'm hopeless at packing light - any tips? 🙈

@OneLilacEagle what sort of content does the magazine have?

@Captainladder thank you! I run out of steam sometimes, especially when someone asks for a repeat of something I've already done! There must be hundreds of them, for various stories, lurking in the building 🤣

I too have been fascinated by the peg people for some weeks now, very nice to see them in the flesh!

OneLilacEagle · 08/06/2025 16:21

@lucysmam It's very much about gentle pleasures - cooking, craft, days out, books, all kinds of things really. Here's the contents page for this month:

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
lucysmam · 08/06/2025 16:25

@OneLilacEagle thank you, I was thinking of buying a magazine to chill with one day this week (dd1 pulled faces!) - I'll make a note in my book of the title and keep an eye out.
