Light hearted to counter the worst stuff you've bought thread.

Me - two Kirby vacuums for under £200 delivered from eBay rather than £4k - one for each floor as they're bloody heavy. I may think of more as we go along

I wouldn’t be without a cordless Dyson or dishwasher now.

Madat54 · 07/06/2025 06:51

Water feature in the garden it’s so relaxing to listen to when we have some sun

Tooearlytothink · 07/06/2025 06:53

Superking bed. Don’t even know if DH is there half the time, ideal 🤣

Tereseta · 07/06/2025 06:55

This shower drain cover after the cover that came with the shower was useless. Makes me so happy not to have to unclog a dark drain hole!

We bought Hive from British Gas for about 10£ month for a year and didn't really know what were getting - it's marvellous - it knows when you leave the house, it knows when youre coming home and prompts you on your phone to switch the heating on etc if its out of your usual pattern - it is truly BRILLIANT - tech that works! We have the smart plugs for the lamps that work with Alexa - so 'living room lights on' etc - also programmed for an emergency - which switches nearly all lights on in the house and plays a siren through all of the Alexa Echo dots in the house and the outside lights - which I obviously hope we'll never use in the case of a burglary etc. We setup similar for my in-laws - 75-80yo - living room light etc so they don't have to bend down and switch on 4 lamps every time they go into the drawing room etc - they are technophobes but love it.

Two things I have never regretted buying are a Staub Chistera (cast iron pan) that gets used almost every day, and a pair of wool pillows that have made sleeping so much more comfortable.

Wood burning stove…a Winters day with that on when we come down for breakfast is bliss. Equally on a cold evening in front of the telly with the stove on in the corner is super cosy

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 07/06/2025 07:25

A self-propelled lawnmower. Used to have to rest the motor of my old compact mower when cutting the grass and the narrow cutting width meant I paced up and down numerous times. Now I'm finished in a third of the time!

A close runner up would be a dishwasher. Sacrificed a cupboard space to install it but it was well worth it.

Hard agree. So good and far less disgusting than the drainhole of doom!

Yes! With two separate mattresses zipped together. No longer feel like I’m on a bouncy castle every time he turns over.

NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 07/06/2025 07:33

Dishwashers are a no-brainer - if I redesign this kitchen I'd have two so you never have dirty plates etc on the side - fill one and run it and everything in the meantime goes into the other. My Kitchenaid mixer was a no brainer as well - use it for everything, baking, mashed potato, batter for yorkies or pancakes. Superb

So does this replace the plastic cup bit and the metal circle? If so that looks good

NegroniMacaroni · 07/06/2025 08:38

Super quiet washing machine. It was expensive, but as it's in the kitchen which is open plan it makes a huge difference - so much more calm.

Middleagedstriker · 07/06/2025 08:52

Our nutribullet, bought it thinking would use it twice but it is used most days. DS makes his breakfast of fruit, oats and yoghurt, ds2 makes smoothies, DD mkaes milkshakes, I use it in cooking to create spice pastes.

Also the air fryer is used most days multiple times. The kids often cook themselves snacks in it (finger sandwiches/jacket potatoes/sweet potato chips). we use if for baking. So much cheaper than the oven.

Middleagedstriker · 07/06/2025 08:54

Oh and the George Foreman grill. Bought 20 years ago. Use it for grill veg, especially aubergine, obviously burgers and chicken. Kids use it to make cheese toasties.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 07/06/2025 09:01

Quooker tap. Hands down the best thing.

Why has no one invented a super sized dishwasher. Maybe a double cupboard sized one. We have super sized fridges/freezers/washing machines etc.

We definitely need 2

Cavello · 07/06/2025 09:09

Resisted buying an airfryer for 2 years, couldn't be without it now. It's used everyday the best function is it turns off, DH had a propensity to put things in the oven and forget about it. It also cooks perfect pork belly.
