I'm ill in bed and bored. Mines a slow cooker. I don't like stew or casserole, I know you can cook lots of things in it but I never use it. What's yours?

Dr Something Or Other face mask. One with red or blue lights to prevent or cure wrinkles and spots. Used it religiously for a week. Been in a drawer ever since.

Airfryer……We just don’t get along!!

Same

The Indian I got last night! It was absolutely stinking £30 wasted!

A one off large brown leather bag hand made from a very old saddle with a stirrup leather cross body strap. Has a patriotic Union flag gusset trim & a 25th (1977) Queen Elizabeth silver jubilee commemoration horse brass used as the closure mechanism. It’s too heavy & stiff & still stinks of dried mould even though I’ve had it for 2/3 years. £450 to sit in a cardboard box under my bed.🙄🤣

My new bathroom. The bath is so uncomfortable I can't use it and shower instead. The tile layer spilt tile adhesive on the shower tray and it never came off. A deodorant fell out of the cupboard and cracked the sink. Oh and the bath panel, which I did not want, keeps falling off. DH would not agree to a free standing bath because 'it would be difficult to clean behind'. He has never cleaned behind anything in his life.

Shark vacuum cleaner. Hated it, so heavy and annoying to use. Pain to get it upstairs. Had always had dyson so bought one when shark was about 6m old and gave it away.

Air fryer. Got a really big one as have teenage boys. Can hardly cook anything in it as it’s still tiny. Gonna give it away.

Have had a slow cooker and bread maker for about 15 years and use them loads. Not bought any other kitchen gadgets as know they’d sit in a cupboard.

Outdoor heater the one with a gas bottle. If we're cold we go inside waste of money.

Rumtopf
Massive ceramic lidded jar that you layer up with sugar, alcohol and fruit . Whatever is in season you add in, make sure it;s under the liquid level or else you get mould .Leave to mature for a few months

Didn;t cost a lot IIRC to buy but the ingredients are . And the fruit looks like slugs when it;s done

It had a second career as a money jar then got broken so that was the end ,

For me, it's chilli con carne, the occasional ham , sometimes cassoulet at Christmas. I think we've done some pulled pork in it too. They're all delicious, but I would say it takes as much effort to make a good slow cooker recipe as something on the hob. The difference is much more depth of flavour and the the ham is wonderful, just falling apart. I often batch cook and freeze but I always use a recipe - never quite trusted the people who said you could just fire a lot of random stuff in and leave it! You use less liquid in a slow cooker as it doesn't boil off as much.
These are the books I bought years ago, some good stuff in there. https://amzn.eu/d/7CRgAGx

Slow cooker, everything it watery I can’t work out what on earth I’m doing wrong but I need to find the box in the loft and donate or sell it. Do food backs take slow cookers?

You want to add cornstarch to thicken the sauce.

Silverfoxette · 08/06/2025 23:02

Massive trampoline, the kids used it once (not sporty at all☹️)
one of those microcurrent things for your face, I just never remember to do it
big metal expensive dog pen, spoiled dog went in there once and that was it, keep meaning to sell it

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 08/06/2025 23:19

for those of you saying laser, I feel your pain.

it was the same for me, they don’t tell you that if you become pregnant, the hairs will come back with a vengeance and all sessions prior would have been money wasted.

The Dyson Airwrap and the Lumea IPL hair remover. Both great products but I just cba using them, they’ve been used once each and sat in a cupboard since.

I've got a hair remover thing I don't think has ever been out of the box!

I have a recipe book for slow cookers, it's American and has some lovely recipes and crucially how much water to add and how long to cook and what heat.

If you chuck random stuff in with loads of water for 8 hours it will be horrible and watery mush

I do daal , curries, gammon, casseroles, pulled pork, spare ribs, cheaper cuts of beef slow cooked and they come out perfectly.

I love my slow cooker and use it a lot too. Currently the smell of chicken stock from yesterday’s carcass is wafting up the stairs after cooking overnight. I’d love to know what recipe book you have though, as I’m always on the lookout for a good one. x

I got a laser hair removal device to use at home almost 10 years ago. So expensive. I used it less than 5 times before I got a Groupon to get it done professionally..

I did it the other way around! Got a couple of Groupons and was so pleased with the results, bought a home device and can now go months without needing to shave or epilate my legs. Underarms have about three hairs each, I'm bloody delighted - ex - Yeti!!!

CherryRipe1 · 09/06/2025 09:34

A weighted blanket, supposed to be good for various ailments & some people rave about them. For me it was horrible, like being buried in sand on the beach & then rocks added for good measure. DD tried it for her restless legs but couldn't handle it either, ditto friend with fibro. I'ts even too heavy to lug to the charity shop so will give it away on FB or ND for pick up.
An early generation home ipl hair remover, might as well have shone a torch at my legs. Maybe the Lumea is better?
Braun epilator -torturous.
Mandolin slicer . Just couldn't get the hang of it or the design was faulty and I'd left too late to return it. Also was scared of the blade.

Mulberry Alexa bag. £800 and such rubbish quality. Currently at the bottom of my wardrobe.

Yes, I bought one for my daughter for a special present, I can't remember the name as I'm not a bag person.

She absolutely loved it, we took two days to choose the right one in the right colour, but the lining simply wore out and fell apart within a couple of months. Such a shame as it was very expensive and still looks great from the outside. Really poor quality though.
I can never believe the prices of the Mulbery bags, particularly the luggage type and those that are not even made of leather.

I bought a Mulberry Bayswater second-hand and even at £235 it felt like a waste of money. I like handbags but I work them quite hard and all my bags look scruffy fairly quickly, so I don't spend much money on bags any more.

My DH has a Ninja Creami. He used it a lot when he first bought it, then didn't touch it for 2 years, and then recently started using it again.

When I was younger I wasted a lot of money on designer/expensive makeup. In most cases I don't find it justifies the price tag. I use basic high street makeup now and I look just as good.

Not an expensive purchase, but I recently bought a steamer and it's not very effective. I rarely use it - I normally just use an iron on a low heat instead.

Re steamer, my DH found his was great when he travelled a lot by plane and got very crumpled. I did use it on my linen but actually find that a spray bottle filled with ordinary water works just as well, overnight, for clothes on hangers that are made of any material other than silk.

You are putting too much liquid in, you only need about 1/3 of what you would put for a stew on the hob or in the oven.

Try roasting a chicken or a joint in it, just put the meat in, turn on and put the lid on, do not put liquid anywhere near it.

Womble100 · 09/06/2025 10:26

Same problem. Sold ours on Marketplace. Lady who bought it said it was to use at a community kitchen.
