Is it worth persevering with Yellowstone?

I’ve had so many recommendations for this, I’m nearly halfway through the first episode, I’m bored, and Kevin has just delivered a breech calf that is a few weeks old, shoots up on its feet and belts off across a field with its mother straight away in a very un-newborn fashion.

So far nul points.

Does it get better?

No idea, i got as far as you and gave up, never returned

ilovespinach · 02/06/2025 20:56

Yes...I wish I could watch it all again....especially Rip

Did you find it a tediously slow starter?
At what point did you enjoy it?

TBH I’m quite shocked at their terrible casting choices of newborn calf. James Herriot did better in the 1970s!

Yes definitely we had to try twice to get through that first episode as it was pure dogshit but the rest omg best thing ever!!!

RandomMess · 02/06/2025 21:01

Yes, the first few episodes are slow but it is great after that.

I’ll see it through to the end of episode 2!

We also gave up half way through episode one

astridforty · 02/06/2025 21:03

Yes! Definitely persevere, it becomes brilliant until it starts to get a bit ridiculous with Beth storylines.

ilovespinach · 02/06/2025 21:03

I think it took a few episodes to warm up and to get to know the characters.....Beth and Jaimie are annoying.....but Rip makes it worthwhile 😂

Watch the first series before you give up.

Lifestooshort71 · 02/06/2025 21:05

I gave up after 20 mins but my daughter loved it and was gripped by the other series as well (called by a particular year?) - one had Helen Mirren in apparently! I was so disappointed 😞

digiwidgy · 02/06/2025 21:05

Yes, keep going. I think it’s episode 3 it get better then I could hardly stop watching. I’d love to watch it all again and for it to be fresh and new.

grapefruitnights · 02/06/2025 21:06

I watched a couple of episodes twice and gave up. Then tried once more as people kept raving about it and by episode 4 I was hooked and binged the lot including 1924 and 1883. Wish I could watch it all again for first time!

Crispsanddips25 · 02/06/2025 21:07

The prequels were easier to get into, I watched main series last and found it slow to start, but loved it in the end

Mikart · 02/06/2025 21:07

Just finished all 5 seasons, plus 1883 and 1923.
Loved it. Rip and Beth are great, Kevin Costner quite unpleasant and Jimmy is great.

ClassicStripe · 02/06/2025 21:07

I watched it on a night flight back from New York. I couldn’t make head nor tail of any of it and fell asleep every 5 minutes.

GreenDogDot · 02/06/2025 21:08

I also only got as far as the first episode because they seem convinced that horses just whinny incessantly and frequently had the wrong hoofbeat noises to match the pace they were travelling at. I can usually overlook some horsey faux pas but given how integral they are you’d think it would have been someone’s job to check these things!

Dishdelish · 02/06/2025 21:11

It is a very slow burn and took us more than one go to get into it but it is fantastic. Beth nearly turned me but I’ve put a threesome with Beth and RIP ahead. Landman by the same producer is also excellent.

Goldenboysmum · 02/06/2025 21:11

I loved it from the beginning but if you're not enjoying it find something else to watch.

If I can't get into something by the end of the first episode then it's not going to happen (for me)

And Rips ok as long as he keeps his hat on!

Try again, it is fabulous plus all the spin offs. It’s just the first couple of episodes are a struggle.

Bananaram · 02/06/2025 21:16

My colleagues keep telling me it gets much better after episode one, but that was 1.5 hours of my life I'll never get back that I don't know if I can stomach it. I'm too traumatised by DH making me watch Lost 😭

XiCi · 02/06/2025 21:16

Yes, you have to keep going. It's brilliant. There aren't many series that are immediately gripping from the get go. The characters and storyline need time to develop. Yellowstone is definitely one that's worth the investment

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/06/2025 21:17

The first episode I found confusing and boring and then after a few episodes it all clicked. Do stick with. 1883 also brilliant but I didn’t really like 1923 it was ruined by the second season which was a pure fuck you to the viewers I thought

Netaporter · 02/06/2025 21:18

Oh I hear you @OhNoTheBridgeIsDown first ep is dreadful and you will think WTF is the fuss all about.. but then you watch eps 2&3 and you are not only hooked but you are actively searching ‘how much is a ranch in Montana’ and ‘what hair dye do I need to turn DH into Rip?’ by the end of s1😂

I saw Rip (Cole Hauser?) in real life last winter and almost fell over. His hair was blondish! He is still pure feek. (heart beating wildly!)

Well horses always whinny incessantly in films & TV. And they are just left tacked up, hanging around ready to be ridden. And they are never covered in mud. And when the rider gets on, they whirl around and canter straight off. And the horses are never lame or losing shoes at inconvenient moments. I'm sure there is more!
