Is it worth persevering with Yellowstone?

I’ve had so many recommendations for this, I’m nearly halfway through the first episode, I’m bored, and Kevin has just delivered a breech calf that is a few weeks old, shoots up on its feet and belts off across a field with its mother straight away in a very un-newborn fashion.

So far nul points.

Does it get better?

Stick with it. I remember taking 2 attempts to get through the first episode but the series is fab.

peanutbuttertoasty · 03/06/2025 00:00

Sounds about as gripping as dances with wolves OP zzzz

I saw Rip (Cole Hauser?) in real life last winter and almost fell over. His hair was blondish! He is still pure feek. (heart beating wildly!)

If you watch him in Good Will Hunting, he’s actually red haired IRL. You can’t believe it’s the same bloke tbh.

Edited to say, you lucky thing tho!!

Renabrook · 03/06/2025 04:33

We got through the first epsiode then thought WTF and gave up

ThanksForTheSong · 03/06/2025 04:45

I loved it and would say it’s definitely worth sticking with.

isthismylifenow · 03/06/2025 05:19

It's one of the shows that you have to be in the right frame of mind for imo. And you can't think too deep about it.

I watched the first episode twice and only got into the show a few months later after just carrying on with eps 2.

I fancy the pants off of Kev Costner so that did help 😂

About season 3 or so it gets a bit silly when it turns into the Travis show, but I plodded through it and it did get better the following season.

2021x · 03/06/2025 05:41

It was a bit meh, so I gave up. But then I also gave up on Succession but that was because I would blink and miss about 3 storylines.

Currently watching Rivals, very very good.

Goatinthegarden · 03/06/2025 05:42

We got through the first episode and thought it was ok (I know nothing about ranches, horses, or reservations), but by the third episode the storyline was so silly and far fetched we couldn’t cope.

NeverHadHaveHas · 03/06/2025 05:43

Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes.

TheOnlyMrsW · 03/06/2025 12:26

Not for me - we persevered until partway through the 2nd series and gave up! I just can't bring myself to care about any of them

CozyCoupe · 03/06/2025 12:31

I started it twice and got halfway through episode 1 both times 😀 and gave up. Then on the insistence of my sister I started again and persevered and by episode 3/4 I was totally hooked!! It does take a while to get going but its absolutely worth it and the spin offs are excellent.

daisym00n · 03/06/2025 12:33

I watched all 5 series and it's probably my biggest life regret.

pinkdelight · 03/06/2025 12:33

My mum loves it, can't get enough. I found it too soapy/cheesy and soon gave up. You'll know whether it's for you or not, no need to persevere for long.

Colechester · 03/06/2025 12:34

I couldn’t bear it because of the animal scenes. Rodeos are so incredibly cruel.

timestressed · 03/06/2025 12:36

Don't look up anything about it's location. A first article I opened gave away the storyline. I was very annoyed.

MillicentMaybe · 03/06/2025 12:48

I tried and tried, got to episode 4 or 5, but even Kevin Costner, who I love, couldn’t keep me hooked. It was having to put up with Beth that did me in. Irrationally I detested her character and just wanted to hurl rocks at the tv whenever she appeared.

Just started 1883. A bit miserable, but I’ll stick with it. Then I’ll give 1923 a go.

Nooo! Kev’s opus! I loved this movie so much I have even kept my old VHS copy.

Roundaboot · 03/06/2025 13:04

That first episode or two are hard to get through but I found I was hooked after that. Currently on ep 3 of Season 3. It is completely ludicrous in terms of plot (reminds me a bit of Buffy with the "monster of the season"!) and I really dislike most of the characters (especially the female ones which is a shame) but the scenery is beautiful and it's just very watchable. And I do like Jimmy!

BloodandGlitter · 03/06/2025 13:20

I've just started season 5 - have absolutely binged my way through the other seasons and am now dreading it ending! It is good, hard to watch sometimes but Rip and Jayce make up for that Grin

Buttcraic · 03/06/2025 13:35

I don't think so. Watched it all but it just turned into a parody of itself. I like westerns but the w*ing over cowboy culture reaches vomitworthy proportions later on. Beth is the only interesting character the rest are utter cliches.

Matilda1981 · 03/06/2025 13:37

Yes, it’s bloody brilliant - as is 1883 and 1923, we started Yellowstone twice but after the first couple of episodes you get hooked!!!

AllAroundMyGarden · 03/06/2025 13:40

I find Beth very annoying, but otherwise like it

1883 is amazing - I just rewatched it and did think how did I get through the first few episodes last time but it’s so good, so emotional at the end

GardenGaff · 03/06/2025 13:41

DH and I persevered, he thought it was great, I thought it was shite.

Every single character apart from Jimmy was absolutely loathsome, in the end I was hoping an asteroid would land in Montana and wipe the lot of them out.

Sedgwick · 03/06/2025 13:45

Loved this series. I just came on to say Teeter is the best character for me. I am staying on a ranch in September with trail riding in Yellowstone Park off the back off this series 😂.
