What things made you realise you are old (tongue firmly in cheek!)

Very lighthearted before any pounces with age being a privilege etc. Im actually only 47 and am quite comfortable with aging. That disclaimer out of the way... what things did you used to think only "old people" do but now do yourself?

I never understood a fancy soap being a treat. Now I love going to TK Maxx and smelling the soaps before carefully choosing one to keep in my underwear drawer until I need to use it. It really is a treat!

I own and love Celtic and Co booties. I've had my current pair about a year. Im in the process if slowly going vegan and Im genuingely concerned about what I can replace these with when they eventually die.

Choosing comfortable clothes. Now this is difficult for me. Im not very confident about how my body looks right now so Im having to really fight the urge to just stop caring about clothes at all. Also, as someone who is short and fat, casual relaxed clothes will almost always look scruffy, not stylish.

Being offered a seat on the bus. 🙁

Feeling actually excited at the delivery of a new Hoover. Finally I’ll be able to get into those dusty corners properly. 😂

I witnessed an accident and gave my details and a PCSO came to the door. The lollipop lady who was in the accident had told him she'd seen that I saw what happened and described me as "about 50-odd". I was 52 at the time and I was quite taken aback because in my mind I was stuck at about 30!

I was reading the thread in bed last night and went to sleep at 10:45pm up at 7am for work, but now it’s almost 6 pm and I am so bloody tired. I’m usual asleep by 10pm

When I found out my line manager is 17 years younger than me. 17 years!

I finished my A levels the year she was born!

One of my previous Line Managers was born the day I passed my driving test.

TaranFollt · 29/05/2025 08:18

I started fancying football managers and not the players.

Titasaducksarse · 29/05/2025 08:26

That foot comfort is the number 1 priority and any days out or holiday starts with what I'm wearing on my feet and the rest of the outfit works around that!

About 15 years ago, DS, describing that I had ‘loads of those ‘big, round black things…you know, with a hole in the middle…. up in the attic’

When outlook went down for a few days a couple of years ago, there were all those memes about not realising people still had hotmail accounts. I have fullname@hotmail.com address too. It's so old, it didnt even need numbers in the name. 😂Mine isnt as old as your though. I updated it from my maiden name... about 5 years after we got married.

My aches and pains. I forget sometimes I am 65. I dye my hair (will not go grey!) wear make up and make sure I am sort of well dressed so am always very surprised when given a seat on the bus. Mind you, the buses in London rarely lower the foot plate (or whatever it is called) and so I feel I am climbing K2 getting on with much grunting and groaning!

Also I deffo wear comfy shoes. I am very clumsy and don't know how I used to wear 3 inch heels!

Deathraystare · 29/05/2025 09:39

I also remember a conversation about my favourite film with my God child and I said "Of course, it was in black and white". He looked at me as if I was crazy! Who would want to watch anything in black and white?! I used to laugh at mum and dad watching snooker in black and white!

ThereIsACatOnMyLapAgain · 29/05/2025 17:11

I never "just know" how old I am. I always have to work it out.

As a child, you know to the month and I couldn't fathom how older adults never knew this.

When you get really old, you know to the month again.🤣

I hadn't heard of Boom radio but I just looked on Spotify and found endless playlist. I know all the songs too!

Summer 2020.. I noticed the start of a bunion on my left foot.. 😩 and I’m two years older than my work besties mum, at 53!

Jamjams · 31/05/2025 15:52

Realising that some of my happiest childhood memories happened 40 years ago really freaked me out

Mysterian · 31/05/2025 15:59

Seeing tech in a museum cabinet and remembering it being the big new thing.

Being the oldest at work.

One of the children at my nursery guessing I was 100 million years old.

Joining in the conversation at work about missing the old £1s and getting confused because they meant the all gold coloured coins and I was thinking of the little green notes.

Everything aches if I move it too fast.

When I shared a table in the library with some girls revising what turned out to be GCSE History, discussing events that I remembered!
