I can't believe what I've seen. It's truly horrific, some of the videos are so graphic. Standing with LFC fans tonight. #YNWA

So many threads have to be deleted or hidden due to speculation, so hard to discuss

The lack of responses on this thread show how you middle class lot think of scousers and Liverpool. Clear as day.

It's more likely how MNetters think of football fans, if there is a connection.

I'm sorry you feel like this. I can assure you in North Wales we're terribly upset that our friends across the border have suffered such a horrific attack.

It’s everyone. They couldn’t blame the driver on being brown so they are subtly and not subtly blaming scousers.

There are working class people on mumsnet and Middle class people in Liverpool

Why would they blame the driver being brown? I haven't seen anyone suggesting that

Iamanunsafebuilding · 27/05/2025 15:39

The police have just done a press conference where they said he tailgated an ambulance into Water Street, the cordon was lifted to allow the ambulance through and he followed. He’s being held on attempted murder, dangerous driving and being unfit to drive as he was under the influence of drugs

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 27/05/2025 15:42

Just a truly awful thing to have happened. I saw some (now deleted) footage on social media, the car appears to drive into a man, who was thrown up and over the bonnet, then veer off to the right and just plough through so many more people. The car went towards the crowd. Not into the comparatively clear section of road.

It's awful to think of such a celebratory occasion ending like this. I really hope everyone involved recovers well.

There have been many threads and posts.

Unfortunately threads have been deleted as there was speculation about the incident which is not appropriate for an ongoing investigation.

As such many posters are wary of posting on any threads referring to the incident.

I would not conclude on the basis of this thread that people do not care.

My thoughts are very much with the injured and their loved ones and more widely with the people of Liverpool at this time.

It's not that I don't care, it's that I have nothing useful to add. I wasn't there, I know as much as anyone else who can access the news and some random on the internet offering their thoughts and prayers into the ether doesn't seem particularly helpful.

I posted on the thread last night with a lot of other people but it got taken down.

I have a lot of love for Liverpool, it's a great city.

It's a terribly thing that's happened and I hope that everyone involved will make a full and fast recovery.

I have no wish to speculate over what the cause was and get another thread deleted. I trust everything will come out in time.

I don't know what else you want me to say?

Comefromaway · 27/05/2025 16:17

It's quite a way from where the incident started (on Dale Street by the bookies) and where it ended (on Water Street by Hooters). It's one way round there.

Following an ambulance to get through the cordon I can understand now how he was able to get onto the street. Sheer stupidity and recklessness.

myplace · 27/05/2025 16:21

It’s hard to have anything to say that doesn’t breach guidelines and get the thread taken down. It’s certainly not lack of interest, for the PO suggesting that.

However I’m a bit shocked by all the people seeking out footage. Why would you want to watch that?

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2025 16:22

There were multiple threads last night, people cared.

Latest update

BREAKING: Merseyside Police say the car tailgated an ambulance on to Water Street which was attending a suspected heart attack.

They insist a “robust traffic plan” was in place, including on Water Street which was closed to traffic.

Again, they stress this is not terrorism.

In total 50 people were treated in hospital and 11 remain there, all in a stable condition and recovering well.

Merseyside Police say the man is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

I didn't seek it out. I looked at the BBC news site like I do most mornings, and it was the first article.

I didn't seek it out. It just appeared in my threads, a lot of it repeated on mainstream news media. Whether that is because I have connections to the area (dd lives in the city centre) or not I don;t know.

I have huge affection for Liverpool and scousers even though I live ‘down south’, my DS lived there for 4 years for Uni and my DH is a lifelong LFC fan. I’ve visited the city many times and went from wishing DS still lived there when we were watching the parade live on BBC online to being very glad he wasn’t there. I’m so sad for everyone involved as well as the club and horrified at how the day ended

When this happened though what did the police do? Did they see a car tailgate?

This isn't the case at all. There were a number of threads yesterday and today with many shocked and horrified responses. But they are being taken down, presumably as they contain speculation or distressing information about injured people or about the accused that could jeopardise a conviction.

It isn't that people don't care.

No3392 · 27/05/2025 16:29

There's some AI 'footage" doing the rounds too. Looking at the faces of the people you can tell.

I despair. I really do.

Maddy70 · 27/05/2025 16:29

Oh please. This is why the police came out so fast saying it was a white man in his 50s. Because they have learnt that people always leap to the conclusion it’s a brown person.
the police have confirmed this is why they put out the details so quickly

What’s clear as day is your attitude towards middle class southerners.

there were two other threads earlier that were very full but they were taken down. That’s why this thread seems late and slow

your comment says more about you and your attitude
