No WiFi at Haven site

Anonymouse2019 · 26/05/2025 12:47

Hi, we're going to Hafan y Mor in Pwllheli soon but despite claiming they have free WiFi, they really don't. It's totally unusable so we have no Internet whilst there. Its a good thing that we'll be spending more family time and less/no screen time, but we'd like to access the Internet to look at weather forecasts, plans trips out, look for local supermarkets and so-on.

Two questions really:

  1. Is it possible that Haven do this deliberately so that people spend more time (and therefore money) within the park itself?
  2. Is there a gadget that'll give us WiFi whilst we're there?

Thanks!

Can’t you just use your phones?

murasaki · 26/05/2025 13:19

Portable mifi hotspot? Amazon do them. And wifi, I don't know the difference!

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2025 13:21

Haven only have wifi in the central entertainment bit. Phone signal can vary across their parks, I didn't have any signal last time I went to Haven but my DH had a strong signal so I used his phone as a hotspot for my phone.

chillinwithmygnomies · 26/05/2025 13:21

Can you pay to boost the signal? We’ve had to do that in the past but never stayed at Hafan Y Mor.

I also found that the Wi-Fi worked in the clubhouse.

It’s called a phone ? Most people have mobiles these days

CeeJay81 · 26/05/2025 13:26

They are doing a trial of paying for premium WiFi at Hafan y mor at seems. We are going end if June(we go fairly regular). Have you got that option on your booking?

CeeJay81 · 26/05/2025 13:28

Just had a look again. It says you can do it when you go. Not sure how much it costs. Free WiFi varies depending where you stay on park. Some areas aren't too bad. Others useless.

I'm not familiar with the area, but I have just come back from holiday in Scotland, and there were loads of areas where I couldn't get any signal at all for data or phone calls, so maybe that's is why the OP has posted?

amooseymoomum · 26/05/2025 13:31

most sites we have gone to not just Haven only use have internet in the reception area. We often rent private not through their sites and often the owners install WIFI. Where we go we tend to hire the same chalet, the owner has brilliant unlimited WIFI; I think the router is Vodaphone or something cant remember but because we go so often laptops and phones connect automatically when we go through the chalet door!

TheBig50 · 26/05/2025 13:31

Add mobile data. £5 should cover your needs.

Readytohealnow · 26/05/2025 13:37

What a shame. You will have to lift your heads out of your phones and talk to each other.
Try it - you may enjoy it. People did used to have holidays without screens.

Not been to that Haven but in other nearby Havens there’s no mobile signal in the caravans at all but there is in the reception/pub/entertainment areas. They have to have a decent free WiFi signal there as you order food/drinks via your phone. Go in there daily and check emails etc. You can sit outside, you don’t have to buy anything.
The rest of the time have a lovely old school family holiday without phones.

So rude. Why? Do you think you are clever here?

FWIW we were at Marton Mere last year and had absolutely no mobile signal. I believe there was work being done in the area to improve that so it may be better now, but we had zero access to the internet in our caravan.

SantaPawsiscomingtofrown · 26/05/2025 14:21

There is wifi in the main areas and you can sit outside in the outdoor eating areas / where all the seating areas and big tvs are and the wifi will extend. I had a job interview whilst on holiday, remote video call, and it worked fine :)

Rude. Not everyone has unlimited data. And if the mobile signal is nonexistent they won’t be able to connect to it anyway.

pinkpanther84 · 26/05/2025 14:24

Why are some people so rude on here when the OP is asking a perfectly reasonable question?

hyggetyggedotorg · 26/05/2025 14:35

There’s no phone signal nor WiFi in the caravans at the Haven park we usually go to either.

As others have said, the nearer to the main complex you go, the likelier you are to get some sort of signal.

You read my mind was thinking the same

Tbf most mobile packages have unlimited data for less than £20 quid now

goldtaps · 26/05/2025 14:40

the only thing on your list that needs real time data is the weather?
can’t you plan trips and look at the local shops / services before going?

babystarsandmoon · 26/05/2025 14:42

Haven usually means they have free wifi in their restaurant only but it’s near enough impossible to even get a web page to load in my experience.

ChidisGardener · 26/05/2025 14:44

Yup someone walks over to reception in morning - downloads the info you need. Comes back. It's fine - like living in the olden days. We've had this in every caravan park we've stayed in.

loropianalover · 26/05/2025 14:45

Is there no 5G/4G signal or something? If not, that’s really unacceptable to have unusable WiFi.

Tbf that’s irrelevant anyway.

RampantIvy · 26/05/2025 15:03

It seems to be beyond the comprehension of some posters that you can't always get a signal everywhere regardless of whether you have unlimited data or not.
