No WiFi at Haven site

Hi, we're going to Hafan y Mor in Pwllheli soon but despite claiming they have free WiFi, they really don't. It's totally unusable so we have no Internet whilst there. Its a good thing that we'll be spending more family time and less/no screen time, but we'd like to access the Internet to look at weather forecasts, plans trips out, look for local supermarkets and so-on.

Two questions really:

  1. Is it possible that Haven do this deliberately so that people spend more time (and therefore money) within the park itself?
  2. Is there a gadget that'll give us WiFi whilst we're there?

Thanks!

We have been to many Haven sites and you only ever get Wi-Fi in the main centre.

we usually just add on more mobile data when we were away or we went to the centre to use the Wi-Fi.

Portable mifi hotspot? Amazon do them. And wifi, I don't know the difference!

BT also do them, they send a mini EE hotspot hub. May be worth contacting your Internet or phone provider and seeing if you can purchase one for the time you're away! (If you need more than just phone data).

It seems to be beyond the comprehension of some posters that you can't always get a signal everywhere regardless of whether you have unlimited data or not.

That’s not what the post was about though it was regarding free WiFi duh

Tbf that’s irrelevant anyway.

It was relevant to your post

You mentioned a mobile package - so I would keep your ‘dubs’ to yourself

FiveBarGate · 26/05/2025 16:39

If that's all you want to check you'll be able to do it in the central areas.

Not familiar with that site but many have poor photos signal. I quite like that.

We just look up anything we need if we go for a drink/meal or on our way out after swimming etc.

Make sure you go onto Google maps for that area and look in detail before you go as you can access when offline.

It was the sarcastic response that they should use their data if they couldn't access Wi-Fi. Data isn't available if there is no signal.

paisley256 · 26/05/2025 17:07

We've struggled to get phone signal at every Haven we've been to except in the clubhouse area....altho my my teenage son did manage to use his mobile at the caravan but had to have his arm out the window when he was lying in bed!

Funnyduck60 · 26/05/2025 17:31

Hotspot your phone. It will act like WiFi when in your accommodation. You may need a top up of data if your plan doesn't provide much. We do this at our static caravan so we can watch Netflix etc.

Depends on the signal. You'll have more luck if yoh are with EE or 3. As signal is patchy there. It really does depend where your Caravan is. It's a big site.

Why do some threads, often the most innocuous of topics, just attract snarky responses? It baffles me.

Anonymouse2019 · 26/05/2025 21:44

What's with the "its called a phone" responses? I made it clear that we have phones but there's no mobile data coverage there, or not good enough to use. We have 2 young children so we can't both go off to public areas for free WiFi if our children are in bed.

Haven usually means they have free wifi in their restaurant only but it’s near enough impossible to even get a web page to load in my experience.

Yep. It doesn’t mean they have WiFi across the park.

If the phone signal is strong enough you can hot spot / share with your dc to their gadgets via your phone in the caravan. We do that at Caister.

WFHmutha25 · 26/05/2025 21:48

We had great wifi there, but did pay £12. Phone signal fine too.

I've thought that about MN for years. Innocent and totally non-inflammatory threads attract the utter bozos and I could never work out why. I left MN for a couple of years due to the levels of catiness and unprovoked bitching in the least likely of threads. Not sure why I came back tbh.

Thank you so much to those of you who gave useful replies. I'm looking into a couple of options including the possibility of paying extra and also a portable router type system.

In fairness to some people who replied, I didn't make it clear in my OP that I was talking about mobile data as well as WiFi and I apologise for the lack of clarity.

To those of you who said things like 'plan everything before you go' or 'look out of the window for the weather forecast', you don't really warrant replies but I'll give you one. We COULD plan before we go, but there are 6 of us going including 2 small children so depending on the weather, our plans may need to change. We could plan a beach trip one afternoon only to find its throwing it down and need alternative ideas. And yes, we do need to plan some ideas in advance (thanks for that tip, Sherlock). Its useful to be able to browse, plan ahead or at short notice etc on the day and not always possible to swan off to a public place at any time you like.

Would we cope with no Internet whatsoever in the accommodation? Yes, of course we would. Do we want to? No. That's not what this thread is about so either please consider the questions at hand with helpful replies or kindly sod off. I didn't ask your option on whether we should plan ahead. This is not your holiday and when you go away you can do as you please.

Hafan has a wifi in caravan package for £18 for a week.

ZebraPrintt · 26/05/2025 22:53

Enjoy the time with no internet! All the info you need will be at reception

eldermillenialmum · 26/05/2025 22:56

Don't you have data on your phone?

If not I'd just download some things on my devices (tv, books, whatever) and then not over rely on tech

Growuppeople · 26/05/2025 23:00

If u only want it for checking weather walk nearer the club house. For shopping, food, days out etc look before u go? It’s annoying but once your there it’s actually quite nice having no internet

Ineedanewsofa · 26/05/2025 23:03

Went to Greenacres at Easter and it was the same there, only wifi in the maim clubhouse and no data signal in the caravan. It actually ended up being quite nice, DH and I spent evenings cuddled up watching shit TV once the kids were in bed

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/05/2025 23:38

Readytohealnow · 26/05/2025 13:37

What a shame. You will have to lift your heads out of your phones and talk to each other.
Try it - you may enjoy it. People did used to have holidays without screens.
Want to know the weather? Look out the window!

Edited

That's mean. OP did say that she was looking forward to more family time, but would like to use the internet to research local shops and attractions and check the weather forecast - what's happening out of the window in the morning isn't always a helpful indicator or what will be happening later when planning data out with children.

If that is your only issue with that site then be happy. We went a few years ago and the site was horrendous- although that area of Wales was fantastic
