My fault if I didn't make it clear, but the "school" references were obvious and the idea of Macron being led around was meant to suggest a wish for domination on her part, which I'd have thought pretty well inevitable given the appalling mismatch in status when their "relationship" started

It really doesn't hit the mark, though. Try visualising your idea with a much older man leading his wife who he started having sex with aged 15 in her old school uniform instead and you'll see why it gets a What The FUUUUUUCK.

MushMonster · 26/05/2025 16:06

She used both hands. Difficult to spot if you are watching it on a small screen.
You need to see the closer footage to fully appreciate what happened.

It's such an odd relationship. Not the age gap so much, but the circumstances around the way they met (teenager/40 Yr old married teacher). If the relationship is abusive, it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm wondering whether she's developed a form of dementia.

Full disclosure: my late husband was 20 yrs my senior. No dementia, but there were health challenges. When you've been in an age gap relationship, you're very aware of the problems that age can bring.

Uricon2 · 26/05/2025 16:07

There is a 17 year age gap between Melania and Trump and she was 35 when she married him.

24 years between BM and EM and he was 15 when the relationship started. She was a teacher at his school.

The 2 are in no way comparable.

Yes, well, there were always gullible fools who refused to see what my mother did to me as well. She was 'just making an affectionate joke' when she hit me just above the ear so the bruises were hidden by my hair. She was 'just brushing something off your top' when she grabbed me and gave me a slapped uppercut. Just 'holding your hand' when she dug her fingers into my wrist.

Just joking when she said 'You'd better watch yourself tonight' before a 3am shock and awe five nights later where I'd wake to the metal bookcase being pulled down and shoved at my sleeping body.

Just trying to cause trouble.

So sorry that happened to you, it sounds absolutely horrible 💐

I am not minimising, but I am also not jumping to conclusions either. I said of course there could be more to it, but no one except those on the plane (and apparently you) really know. 🤷‍♀️

That's very fair, NoTouch, but regardless of what the backstory is, what kind of an idiot does this knowing perfectly well the aircraft doors are open and that cameras will be focused on it?

At the very least I'd say that shows an appalling lack of judgement ... perhaps the same lack which brought about the targeting of a child in the first place

It's true that paedophiles, hebephiles and child rapists can develop dementia. However, I very much doubt that this is a new thing and in conjunction with the abusive origins of the relationship, violence has been present since he was - literally - a child and she was a middle aged woman in a position of authority over him.

She does use both hands and she pushes his face with some force.

I am fascinated at how people are seeing this so differently. I clearly see aggression from her to him. And others seem to think it is 'playful'!

Makes me wonder about witnesses to crime and how reliable they are?!

Eyewitnesses to crimes are notoriously unreliable. There have been studies about it.

Uricon2 · 26/05/2025 14:17

When people do things like this in public (like Saachi's hand around Nigella's throat, horrible) you do have to wonder what on earth goes on in private.

Exactly

ZoggyStirdust · 26/05/2025 16:12

As usual on a thread where there is female aggression towards a man, there are apologists.

it was joking around, it was banter, we don’t know what went on, he’s stronger so it’s fine.

every fucking time
still

Nobody is going to know.

The others in the plane that saw it unfold will know, but will do what they are told, which will be to keep their mouths shut.

AliasGraced · 26/05/2025 16:13

He wasn’t a child or underage so how do you work that one out?

I agree. Like this footage on the BBC (watch all 34 seconds):

Image shows moment Macron is shoved in the face by his wife

Macron says push in face by wife Brigitte 'just joking around'

Footage shows the moment Emmanuel Macron is shoved in the face by his wife Brigitte as they touch down in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Exactly. We’re so furious when male on female violence is minimised yet so many people just accept it the other way around. I read the comments on the Daily Mail link that was shared and they are terrible.

If Macron has been abused before and this isn’t a one off he will never say anything because it will destroy him and his career.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 26/05/2025 16:14

There is something out of control about pushing someone in the face like that.

The PPs making light of it - 'that's just marriage' - are almost as disturbing as the push itself.

A male victim will be seen as so weak he could never be a leader

That was my point, yes. But a survivor of abuse is not weak, they are the opposite.

Trump is about to turn 79 (June 1946) she’s just turned 55 (April 1970) - that’s 24 years (widely available information from many sources)
I acknowledged there are issues with the way they met but her age (& how she looks) is widely discussed in a way that the Trumps age gap isn’t

JSMill · 26/05/2025 16:18

I can’t believe how many people are trivialising this - not here really but on other social media platforms. She didn’t realise the media would capture but she did it in front of the other people on the plane which makes me think this is her normal behaviour.

CreationNat1on · 26/05/2025 16:19

I think this will be the catalyst to end the relationship.

HelpMeGetThrough · 26/05/2025 16:19

JasmineAllen · 26/05/2025 16:14

He was 15

Age of consent in France is 15.

However….

For sexual acts with a minor between 15 and 18, the law considers whether the adult has authority over the minor. If the adult does have authority, the act is not considered rape but instead constitutes a different offense called "atteinte sexuelle sur mineur," which translates to "sexual act with a minor," states a Politico.eu article.

Surely it would have been considered she had authority over him?

WearyAuldWumman · 26/05/2025 16:20

I'm commenting on her behaviour in that clip: that is, the fact that she hit Macron whilst she was in view of the cameras.

How dare you imply that I'm condoning domestic abuse or her predatory behaviour as a schoolteacher. Low hanging indeed.

lifeonmars100 · 26/05/2025 16:21

OneQuickMauveBiscuit · 26/05/2025 16:04

I think the more pressing issue with Trump and Melania is why she is with a sexual abuser, rapist and misogynist, instead of their age gap. She was an adult and made a choice despite knowing what she (and the rest of us) knows. She heard her husband call his own daughter attractive. She made her choice, she gets no sympathy from me IF she is still choosing to be with him.

Edited

I think she is as bad as him, she is only with him for the money, it can't be for his looks, charisma, wit and talent!
