It should have been, but I'm wondering whether the law was the same then?
Unfortunately, I can think of instances back in Scotland in the '70s when male teachers finished up married to former pupils.
I can also think of one reprobate who got off with being a serial groomer in the '90s because his victims' parents wished to preserve their anonymity. He moved abroad - I'm assuming to escape his actions.
There's a certain amount of police laziness which contributes to this type getting off with their despicable behaviour. In Scotland, it normally takes action by the General Teaching Council to get anything done.
Only last month, a local teacher got off with Community Service for his behaviour towards former pupils. He'd sent them pictures and videos of himself and had spoken in an inappropriate manner to one of them while he was signing her leaving form.
The only reason that the matter even went to court is that three of his victims compared notes in their '20s and went to the police together.
Incredibly, in his summation the judge implied that the predator's behaviour had somehow been accidental. How does a grown man accidentally take videos of himself and then send them to teenagers?
