Boris is 60 and though presumably pretty healthy and wealthy doesn't being 80 when your child is going to be at uni cause challwnges? I always think with these things you are risking a child becoming a care fiver at an early age or having a distorted view of a parent due to a large age gap.

The older Dad option also seems to the option for famous and wealthy men and personally I do not know many women in their bid 30s dating men who by some measures are pensioners.

Good luck to them though

Boris Johnson's wife Carrie announces arrival of fourth child

The Mail article quotes Carrie as saying home now ,time for pizza and cocktails .Shows pic of the rum based cocktail in a bottle.
Can you have cocktails if bfeeding ? Maybe she's not ,up to her .

Even without the breastfeeding, who has cocktails when they come home with a newborn?

I like a drink, but that’s just madness to me.

I follow Carrie on Instagram and she seems to have spent the last few months travelling the world. I know she is very privileged, but fair play to her - I barely moved from the sofa for nine months when I was pregnant.

He may be wealthy, but there are risks with having an older father, oddly so many people just focus on mums being older, plus it means your children are very likely to lose a parent very young.

crumblingschools · 24/05/2025 18:25

@user1492538376 were the other DC with her?

user1492538376 · 24/05/2025 18:27

Some of the time. She was in Texas last month. I know she has a nanny but still - gallivanting round the world when pregnant would have been the last thing I felt like doing.

LlynTegid · 24/05/2025 18:27

Glad it is a healthy baby. Sympathy for all his children, for having the worst ever Prime Minister and a serial liar as their father.

I'd like him to have no more, because he is in prison as he should be, for the deaths he caused by his inaction. My lifelong opposition to the death penalty is the sole reason I would spare him the rope.

madaboutpurple · 24/05/2025 18:31

No doubt the couple will be able to get a nanny who will take a lot of their responsibilities away from them. I am pretty sure he does after dinner speeches as I am sure I read that somewhere.

Most people continue working full time rather than travelling the world. It’s not exactly a hardship.

You can drink whilst breastfeeding.

Four is definitely a status symbol thing for a certain kind of posh/ faux posh woman. It's basically saying "look at my big house/ car and lack of need to worry about paying for childcare".

Sesma · 24/05/2025 18:35

I doubt Carrie needs to work full time

I had it in my head as one of those useless facts the mind retains that one of his kids is called Lettuce. Google shows it's actually her middle name along with a sibling saddled with Peaches in their name. His kids with Carrie should be grateful they aren't called Cucumber, Tomato or Satsuma.

Edited

It's Lettice, it's not that uncommon a name. very much an upper class name of course. A google tells me it's short for Lettitia , a French name.

In terms of how he parents, we have been to Salcombe a few times and there are always a few posh dads who are obviously not usually at home and are really confused to be in sole charge of a child. I suspect he's like that.

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2025 18:37

I think some of the overseas visits would probably have included a bit of Boris business - I know the family went to parts of the US last year as part of his book tour. Carrie was hospitalised in late December with pneumonia so that must have been even more stressful knowing she was pregnant. I do like Carrie's instagram - she seems a very outdoorsy mom. We followed each other on X but I've resisted the temptation on occassion to DM her!

Indeed @LlynTegid The man's a lying bag of lies and I'm afraid to say I do take comfort from the fact he is clearly incapable of genuine happiness. How these exceptionally damaged and damaging men end up in power, and with women desperate to please them, I will never fully understand.

Sorry but it still conjures up Liz Truss salad for me. Perhaps I'm just a bit common.

One of the few things I admire about Boris Johnson is his ability to attract extremely capable women. I am sure Carrie wanted her 4 children and will be a wonderful mother to them, and able to provide for them if he cannot / does not.

The worst thing about Boris Johnson is that he seems to maintain contact as an adult with a man who beat up his own mother such that hospital treatment was needed. I don't think any of us would do so were the thug our own dad.

Like having a wardrobe on top of you with the key still in the lock...

Wasn't that about Nicholas Soames?

This child will loose his dad young 😢😢

Boris Johnson targets women who are in a situation of some low level kind of vulnerability. Jennifer Arcuri starting a business in a new country, Petronella Wyatt an employee, and Carrie (then Symonds) who had just been sacked from a role in the Tory party.

She might have employed a wet nurse 😂

alldressedupinblue · 24/05/2025 19:00

The family’s last holiday was a freebie in Saudi Arabia.

(Baroness) Charlotte Owen was my temp gofer in the HoC in 2017. Very very pretty girl. Now she’s a legislating peer.

take from that what you will.

Marina Warner ? Allegra Mostyn-Owen? No idea about the other two, but Carrie Johnson probably wouldn't appreciate that. And she is a very impressive woman.

It's just possible these women have agency and make choices.

SwedishEdith · 24/05/2025 19:09

I looked at her Instagram once and she still had loads of photos from when she was dating Harry Cole.

I think her and Johnson are both very damaged individuals. And yes, if Marina had four I suspect there's some rivalry about that. No-one would look at Johnson and think "Poor lamb, he's missed out on having kids".
