Popular songs you actually don’t like

Neighbours a few doors away have been out in the garden, having a bbq and playing music.
Earlier, they played ‘Sweet Caroline’ on loop 4 times 🤪
I remember reading somewhere (maybe on MN?!) that some people can’t stand this song.
Personally, I don’t mind it, but maybe 4 times is a bit much!.

What other songs which are deemed “popular” but actually grates on your nerves?
Mine are Seal’s Kiss From a Rose, The B-52s Love Shack and Fairground Attraction’s Perfect - just for starters!

I seem to recall reading that Michael Stipe actually grew to hate SHP as well! I gather it was meant to be them making a bitingly ironic negative statement - then loads of listeners took it to heart as a lovely cheery feelgood song!

Oh god yes, I had forgotten about that one. Atomic Kitten were so bad. 😂

Song For Whoever. I love that song! It's apparently a subtle attack on singers who sing songs about different girls. Paul Heaton cited Elton John as an example though I'm not sure how accurate that is...

Cannot bear the Cranberries - Zombie. I know it's worthy but it offends my ears.

Ikr!! I’ve always wished that song had different lyrics as I love the melody and like most of Billy Joel’s songs, but the lyrics are so disempowering.

Also hate Shout, just because Lulu’s voice on it is so abrasive. Also because it’s been the cause of a lot of embarrassing dancing. 😆

I agree with nearly all of those already mentioned, I especially dislike anything by The Beautiful South.

I also dislike ‘The Middle’ by Jimmy Eat World and anything ‘Pure Morning’ by Placebo

I'm not violent but Kiss From a Rose makes me want to punch a wall. I once nearly swerved off the road as I desperately tried to change the radio station when the song came up when I was in the car. Truly dreadful and vomit inducing.

Also, 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. Can't remember who sang that one, but I will curse them forever. It is a form of torture and makes me scream inside my own head.

I think I need therapy 🤔

Lewis Capaldi's "Hold Me While You Wait". The screaming at the end literally hurts my brain. I mute the radio when it plays.
