Popular songs you actually don’t like

Neighbours a few doors away have been out in the garden, having a bbq and playing music.
Earlier, they played ‘Sweet Caroline’ on loop 4 times 🤪
I remember reading somewhere (maybe on MN?!) that some people can’t stand this song.
Personally, I don’t mind it, but maybe 4 times is a bit much!.

Are you a fan?
What other songs which are deemed “popular” but actually grates on your nerves?
Mine are Seal’s Kiss From a Rose, The B-52s Love Shack and Fairground Attraction’s Perfect - just for starters!

Sing it back by Moloko. Roisin is great. I just truly can't stand that song.

I’d love to know who did buy Mull of Kintyre originally as nobody I know likes it and I don’t like the sound of bagpipes myself , so I definitely didn’t buy it and had to turn it off if it came on the radio. The music video of it was pretty shit too. Mc Carthy on his own had some odd songs back then.

Me! I bought the single! And also The Floral Dance, which I think was no. 2 when Mull of Kintyre was no.1.

Oh yes , "My Way " Grin
And "Living Next Door To Alice" by Smokie (Alice?Alice? Who the fuck is Alice ?) version,

I genuinely love the original song, but Smokie ruined it forever with that sweary novelty version. Nobody actually seems to know the song without the Chubby Brown bit anymore.

K8Davidson · 20/05/2025 21:58

Crazy Town - Butterfly. So repetitive, so boring.

NameChangedOfc · 20/05/2025 22:06

Anything by Taylor Swift. Or Katy Perry. Or whichever younger version of the same shi style there is now (I've lost count of the newest semi nude celebrities in fashion).

It probably did say "Blue Lyrics," but she can be a bit green...

Have a listen to the Chron Gen version - you'll forget you ever heard the Chubby Brown one!

SinnerBoy · 20/05/2025 22:21

Anyway, tha Fat Boy Slim one about the renegade master. In fact, Fat Boy Slim altogether.

GreenFressia · 20/05/2025 23:00

Anything by Rod Stewart.

Agreed! I can’t stand him. 🤮

CurlewKate · 21/05/2025 06:05

Fairy Tale of New York. Delilah.

Anything by Rod Stewart.

Really? I love early Rod, when he was in the Faces and his career in England before he moved to the States - that's when it all went downhill for me. It's like two separate performers.

the80sweregreat · 21/05/2025 09:24

Agree that Rod Stewart was good with ‘ the faces ‘ but a lot of his songs are quite bland.

unlikelywitch · 21/05/2025 09:28

Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire. Awful, awful, awful!

GodDamnVampire · 21/05/2025 19:36

Agree with @CurlewKate choices.

Bohemian Rhapsody or indeed most songs by Queen. I don't understand why that song is deemed genius and why it used to always come top in 'greatest songs of all time' type charts. Also hate when people show off when they sing the Galileo bit- like yay go you, you know all the lyrics and you're so cool and edgy 🙄

SinnerBoy · 22/05/2025 00:06

I used to hate Queen, as a teenager, but they've grown on me. I think it's largely because of a weasel faced deputy head, who used to stand by the bike shed and sing, "I like to ride my bicycle" into kid's faces.

The scrawny twat.

He also wandered round singing Bohemian Rhapsody.

Slightly off-topic, but I still remember and chuckle at a comment that somebody made on Twitter when Rod Stewart appeared once on Jools Holland's show wearing a distinctive black and white Beetlejuice-style suit:

"Did they actually book Rod to perform on the show, or did somebody just say his name three times and he appeared?!" Grin

GodDamnVampire · 22/05/2025 06:37

@SinnerBoy Yes, I can see that would put you off for life 😂

@IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta That gave me a chuckle. 😆

It's now Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan. I quite like the latter

amooseymoomum · 22/05/2025 08:04

so many I hate but I remember that Christmas Mull of Kintyre came out. It used to grate on my nerves every time it was played and it was played a lot! Dad used to love it so radio up every time it came on at home!

sashh · 22/05/2025 08:58

whitewineandsun · 18/05/2025 19:25

Every Breath You Take. It is not a love song, and I hate it very much.

I've always called it, "the stalker's song".

Grin Grin all I can recommend is 99% of you don't go on a cruise , never a night goes by without someone taking a crack at Sweet Caroline on the Kareoke Grin

One of the entertainments team came onto stage to "Blurred Lines" and left to "Uptown Funk" .....you'd have hated it Grin

Ha! Yes. And for some reason cruise-line musicians just can't get enough of John Denver and Billy Joel. 'Piano Man' and 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' are turgid and particularly repetitious favourites.

Shout out to the awesome American pianist on the Victoria many years ago, when DH and I were the last man and woman standing and he played medleys of rock music, not excluding Metallica. What a man. Cunard weren't as stuffy as they looked as long as you knew the right places (and avoided the jazz slots like the plague). To this day I'm still friends with their gym instructor!

Haven't been on a cruise holiday since DC was born in 2014.

You obviously haven't rtft as there are plenty more that hate it
