Do you ever come home from a meal out

And want to eat again?????

I’ve had a good intake today, porridge & fruit at breakfast
salmon & stir fry veg at lunch
just been out with a friend and had scampi & chips (literally 7 pieces of scampi)

come home and I’m trying to justify making myself an egg sandwich

I’m ravenous

The other week my husband and I went to a beautiful restaurant for a delicious and sumptuous Peruvian meal. It cost over £200. On the way home he got a large kebab, chips and a coke!

I never understand this. After a tasting menu, or even a three course meal, there's absolutely no way I could eat any more. I generally don't completely finish tasting menus and will just have a bite or so of the last few courses.

DH had a family reunion in his hometown a couple of weeks ago and had scampi and chips for nostaligia's sake, I just asked him, and there were about eight scampi, chips, peas, and salad. He apparently ate it all but it was just the right amount.

He's 6' 1", slim but well muscled and active.

Make of that what you will.

honeylulu · 16/05/2025 21:37

If you are actually hungry then have something else to eat. If you just want to feel stuffed to the gills (my ex used to moan he felt cheated by a meal out if he didn't feel like Mr Creosote afterwards) then maybe you are just being a bit of a piggy wig wig.

Are you fat or slim?

Well thank you for not making me feel like a porky pig
im just tucking into en egg mayo bagel

Right. I was all prepared to cheer you on.

But, an egg mayo bagel, whilst lovely lunch fare, is NOT a Friday Night Egg Sandwich.

What you should have had is a fried egg, drizzled with brown sauce, topped with grated mature cheddar, served between 2 slices of well buttered thick cut white bread.

YABU in your choice of egg sandwich.

Brown sauce has no place on egg….. it’s ketchup only!!

Make your egg sandwich and be happy.

Please and thank you, yes.

And I never understand THIS!!!! so you say you "can't" eat any more? Why? Like I get running out of money or being too ashamed to keep eating eventually but you say that as if your own desire to eat just goes down, like by itself. I have never, not once my life, at no point ever, had that. What would make you not be able to eat any more???

So I can just eat all day, then go to an event and stuff face, then go home and eat again. I don't even feel that. And then here people are all suprised of course you can just keep eating why not??? I could literally eat and eat and eat absolutely non stop and I mean non stop. Three kebabs and just meh. what are we having next? 8 jars of green olives as snack just sitting there I truly do not understand how people can be in a state where they would not eat that is not a thing or it would require hard diet restriction like why are doing this every day NO WAY you can!!!!!

CalleOcho · 16/05/2025 21:52

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/05/2025 20:12

No, I can't understand that at all. You can't possibly be ravenous. Did you not have a dessert? Was it only a small portion of chips? Any veg?

No chance you're pregnant?

Classic Mumsnet.

@ThisPearlOP

cos most people feel sick if they overeat

DissDissOrDiss · 16/05/2025 21:55

I’m a twat when it comes to food and even if I were hungry after a meal out, I wouldn’t really believe I was. My bonkers relationship with food would see me drink some water and go to bed. I know this isn’t great.

If I were you - a healthy, normal and accepting person when it came to food, I’d say EAT THE EGG SANDWICH! And enjoy 🍳

Crushed23 · 16/05/2025 21:55

Yeah occasionally.

I try to listen to my body and not deny myself for the sake of it. I’m having a moment with bread and hummus at the moment, so I’ve had it every day from Sunday.

Have the egg sandwich. 😊

thenightsky · 16/05/2025 21:56

SpicyMcSpice · 16/05/2025 20:50

Well no wonder I’ve never eaten it. That. Sounds. Rank.

(but I’m not a seafood fan anyway!)

thankyou for explaining it though. I always thought it was the offcuts of fish 🙈😆 I never bothered to google it, obviously!

Rank?

Scampi is just seafood in batter. Its nice if you don't want a full on plate of fish and chips.

You have truly - without prejudice - opened my eyes to a way of eating that I have never experienced. No snide. It is the absolute opposite of how I eat. I genuinely had no idea that some people never feel full.

ik I have felt stuffed nauseous before so??? I can juss keep eating. Like there is it where you have acid reflux between bites and can still swallow back and keep eating so does not matter if you "feel" sick you cannot just magically sense calories and know you are overeating and even if you log it and count etc that itself does not make you sick as well so that is no limit ever to eating

princesspadam · 16/05/2025 22:04

Well DSS just came home and asked if I wanted to share an Indian 😂 so I’m glad I just had the egg bagel

in the ketchup vs brown then I think it depends on what you’re having:
chips, egg & beans = ketchup
egg with any kind of breakfast items = brown
egg sandwich = mayo & salad cream

7 scampi is like a tiny starter not a meal

i rarely eat out as I often find portions just so measly

@ThisPearlOP

yeah most people would stop eating at that point. Doesn’t sound very pleasant.

DyslexicPoster · 16/05/2025 22:06

Me personally no. Mostly because I love a pudding and once if have eaten something sweet, mentally I'm finished. Weird but there you go. If no pudding then I might raid the fridge for something sweet.

My sons? My 13 year old had three courses at zizzi and ate the half a calzone i brought back so I could enjoy my afters.

My 21 year old could come home and have another three courses. He is also annoyingly thin.

I think if your still hungry, your hungry!

tillyandmilly · 16/05/2025 22:08

Yea especially pizza express with their 8” pizzas I don't have a dessert though but ravenous an hour later!

‘Acid reflux between bites’ is not something I’ve experienced on a regular basis.

Indigestion generally means I’ve eaten too much / need to stop eating for the foreseeable.
