Do you ever come home from a meal out

And want to eat again?????

I’ve had a good intake today, porridge & fruit at breakfast
salmon & stir fry veg at lunch
just been out with a friend and had scampi & chips (literally 7 pieces of scampi)

come home and I’m trying to justify making myself an egg sandwich

I’m ravenous

When we get in from a meal out my husband tends to make dirty fries

@WavyRavey

why??!

@TooGoodToGoto

maybe not, but you still wouldn’t need to eat again.

Surely you know that feelings of hunger are more to do with volume of food than the calories it contains? For the calories in a snickers you could eat a large chicken breast with a big salad. Which would I make you feel full?

I remember we went to a posh Michelin starred restaurant as a treat, expensive. We stopped at the takeaway on the way back to the hotel. The food was beautiful and tasty but portions were small and it wasn't a taster menu. We left the place still hungry.

I've had a similar experience. Went to a Michelin starred restaurant (I wasn't paying, but I had a senior colleague who was a proper foodie and we went to some lovely places for corporate nights out). The food was exquisite, but it was just little tastes of this and that and not enough to soak up the wine that came with each course. I could have done with stopping to get chips on the way home, but we were sharing a taxi so I had to mind my manners.

Seven scampi sounds like something I could eat between meals without ruining my appetite, as the advert used to say. Enjoy your egg sandwich, OP.

@Wherewillitend25

even if I didn’t feel full if I’d just eaten a meal that was over 1000 calories I still wouldn’t eat again.

That’s so sad.

Happens to me regularly 1-2 days a month. I’m skinny as a rake. But I eat about twice as much as normal those days.

Same here. My brain switches off food after I've eaten a meal whatever size it is. I could never eat a meal after getting home from a meal out.

Good for you, but you’d probably still feel hungry. I know I would and in that situation, I’d eat. And no, I’m not overweight at all.

Zanatdy · 16/05/2025 21:20

No, but I often have a desert when eating out.

Hellskitchen24 · 16/05/2025 21:22

I’ve been out for a meal and gone out for fish and chips afterwards as the first meal was so inadequate. It was one of those fancier all style no substance meals though, not a burger and chips job. Normally eating out fills me well!

Flyswats · 16/05/2025 21:23

It's the saturated fat - it makes you crave more food. Same if there was a surgery food, makes you want more and more.

MummaMummaMumma · 16/05/2025 21:26

If I go for an Indian, definitely not - I can barely move!
A Chinese, yes - always hungry after!

Soontobesingles · 16/05/2025 21:27

The other week my husband and I went to a beautiful restaurant for a delicious and sumptuous Peruvian meal. It cost over £200. On the way home he got a large kebab, chips and a coke!

Oh no! Didn’t like the food or just not enough?

Pickingmyselfup · 16/05/2025 21:30

I'm the same when I come in from drinking.

Sometimes I'm genuinely just hungry like after a 3 course meal a few months ago. Can't remember what I had previously that day but I was half tempted to go to McDonald's after. The food was lovely but tiny portions!

Today I've had porridge for breakfast but no real lunch because I didn't have time although I did have a snack. Got home, made sourdough toast with honey then had a big bowl of spaghetti bolognese. Went out, drank wine and since being back I've had 2 slices of white toast and butter and a penguin. Great amount of carbs for my 16 mile run tomorrow but I'm still hungry.

If you're hungry you're hungry and it's only one day presumably, not the end of the world.

Just not enough for his appetite. He has a ridiculous evening meal consumption capacity! I thought we had plenty.

knittasgonna · 16/05/2025 21:31

If I'm hungry, I eat. That seems normal to me, and it all evens out in the end. It's eating out of boredom that's the problem, ime.

Make your egg sandwich and be happy.

Yes. You cannot go to bed hungry. Eat something and be full, you'll sleep well.

Galatine · 16/05/2025 21:34

This often happened to me after a heavy meal. The occupational nurse at work suggested that was was happening was that the meal sent my blood sugars up rapidly. This caused my pancreas to over produce insulin which caused the blood sugars to collapse and I felt hungry again.

TooGoodToGoto · 16/05/2025 21:15

NHS guidelines etc that specify that a woman should have around 2000 cals a day, less if sedentary

Klozza · 16/05/2025 21:36

Yes sometimes, I’ll come hone feeling super full then like 2 hours later be starving again, then feel guilty for wantting to eat again

@Galatine

very interesting. So is eating little and often the solution then?
