Do you ever come home from a meal out

And want to eat again?????

I’ve had a good intake today, porridge & fruit at breakfast
salmon & stir fry veg at lunch
just been out with a friend and had scampi & chips (literally 7 pieces of scampi)

come home and I’m trying to justify making myself an egg sandwich

I’m ravenous

I remember going to a restaurant with a group of friends. This particular time my sister came too.

Afterwards, we went back to one of my friend's houses. After a while my friend and I both said, "ooh, I'm hungry! Shall we order pizza?" So we did!

My sister was gobsmacked and just kept saying over and over "but we've just been out for dinner!"

Just to add - I have always been slim and I exercise a lot. I eat healthily 90% of the time.

When we get in from a meal out my husband tends to make dirty fries

I can't tell if you're joking. In case you're not, I think people on this thread must be going to different restaurants to me. Or maybe only having a light main course and no starter or dessert or extra sides. Or just getting a mcdonalds or something, which tend to make me feel queasy then ravenous 2 hours later. Or eating at 5pm or something? (we tend to eat out between 7 and 8)

I mean a big steak and ale pie, chips and peas, or battered fish, chips and peas is not the sort of thing that you'd need to eat dirty fries after when you got home, is it?

For me, apart from the nice food and the social occasion, one of the best bits of going to a restaurant is getting cooked for, fed, and arriving home feeling stuffed, or at least satisfied enough so that you don't even need to think about having to prep any more food.

BusySittingDown · 16/05/2025 20:38

I've just noticed that you said you didn't have any dessert.

Well then, of course you're ravenous because you only had half a meal! Enjoy your egg sandwich.

So maybe it was inadequate?

No idea, I've never had scampi out in a restaurant, I didn't kniow it was still a thing. My sister used to like it at the Little Chef when we were kids.😆No idea what a portion of scampi for an adult should look like.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 16/05/2025 20:41

Flip sake I want an egg sandwich now 😂
Scampi differs by restaurant. The best of scampi is the pub lunch type with thick cut chips.

Maybe you eat TOO heathily then, if what you're choosing for meals out doesn't fill you up? A plate of steak, chips, tomato, mushroom, onion rings would fill me up and I wouldn't want pizza later. If I chose quiche and salad, I'd be on the Uber app in the taxi home.

Imonlyhappywhenitrains · 16/05/2025 20:42

Ten + years ago absolutely not, these days not that unusual.
Last weekend we went for a pub lunch at a place that used to serve mountains of food for the first time this year, and the serving of chips was fewer than ten on the plate each😬
I'm guessing they are trying to see how small they can get away with making the portions before they get complaints!
Also, recently went to a venue that has recently changed from a self serve dinner to ordering at table, again guess they are trying to keep costs down!

BCBird · 16/05/2025 20:45

Love a Scooby snack😂

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 16/05/2025 20:46

Look up the hunger scale. Once you have read that if you still think you are hungry then eat. I’m going to bet you are not still hungry 😋

No restaurants want multiple people submitting Tripadvisor reviews saying "We left hungry and had to dial a pizza later on", do they? So if that's genuinely what restaurants are trying to do then they're going to have to think of other ways to cut costs. Maybe not upgrade the decor so much. I've eaten at some lovely restaurants in Italy, for example, for reasonable prices, but clearly the decor's been the same for years and years and is certainly not trendy and instagrammable. Depends what people want though. I'd rather have a full stomach than a selfie on FB.

It’s so sad that this question even needs to be asked ( that’s not a judgement on you op! I’ve done the same!)
But if my Dh came home from a restaurant and still felt hungry, he’d absolutely make himself something to eat and not think twice about it. He definitely wouldn’t go online to a forum and ask if it was normal. Could you imagine a man doing that?!

Pleeease make yourself that egg sandwich op. And enjoy every mouthful with no fucks given!!
We get one life, please yourself in every way!!

SpicyMcSpice · 16/05/2025 20:28

On a side note, what even is scampi? I’ve never eaten it because I don’t know what it is? 😆

It’s breaded langoustine (half way between giant prawn and tiny lobster)

Atarin · 16/05/2025 20:49

I’m not surprised! That’s a very early dinner, I wouldn’t have been hungry then either and not eaten very much. I haven’t had dinner yet, so just starting to get hungry!

Well no wonder I’ve never eaten it. That. Sounds. Rank.

(but I’m not a seafood fan anyway!)

thankyou for explaining it though. I always thought it was the offcuts of fish 🙈😆 I never bothered to google it, obviously!

Neither have I, to be fair 😁

The smaller my breakfast, the hungrier I am for the rest of the day - no matter how much i eat later on - could you add some seeds and chopped nuts/ nut butter to your porridge? Or eat eg eggs on toast or something more substantial in the mornings?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 16/05/2025 20:55

Honestly, no, I’ve never done it. But then I’ll always order something pretty filling to make sure I get my moneys worth!

Wherewillitend25 · 16/05/2025 20:57

I don’t think I ever have, but then if my main course had been teeny, I’d have ordered something else afterwards. But if for some reason I couldn’t, I definitely would go home and eat. You couldn’t pay me enough to eat an egg sandwich though 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

ThatGumYouLike · 16/05/2025 20:07

I always eat after a restaurant meal out! I basically end up treating food in restaurants and cafes as an additional snack on top of the day's eating.

@ThatGumYouLike

but why??

3pointmountain · 16/05/2025 20:18

I don't understand ordering scampi of you have "an appetite". Scampi is for those people who love to tell you they couldn't possibly eat a whole meal IMO 😜

A portion of scampi and chips is about 1100 calories!

And do calories make you full? Not necessarily.

So what’s your point?

@TooGoodToGoto

maybe not, but you still wouldn’t need to eat again.

Quite. You can buy drinks in Starbucks that are around 900 calories. Would they make you full? Nope!

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 16/05/2025 21:02

Me and a friend once snuck out of a wedding reception to buy kebab and chips…the food at the reception was ‘posh grub’ which translates to ‘tiny portions of artistically placed morsels’. Very tasty…but blimey we were hungry! 🤣

So YANBU at all 🥪
