Yes I noticed that too. Davey have seen a 12 point favourability increase coming from 2024 Tory voters though.

I'm interested to see the next batch of polling for Plaid Cymru after Starmer's disgusting slap down of Liz Saville Roberts.

'65% of Britons now dislike the Labour Party, the most in the 8 years YouGov has been asking the question'.

Farage increased in favourability by three points, Davies by one point, while Starmer dropped in four points, over the fortnight. If the tipping point was island of strangers - which it might not be I'm just shooting the breeze - then Starmer has sanitized reform and alienated the liberals of those losing the faith at a rate of 3:1.

Yeah, absolutely. The libdems are always hot on the heels of the Tories now in just about every poll. The movement of direction is in their favour.

Weird times.

Agreed. If that's how in pans out in the coming weeks, Starmer's island of strangers speech will have shifted the Overton window. As you say 'sanitising' reform. Idiot.

In the meantime there is some light relief to be found in the curios case of David Lammy and the French cab driver.

All bizarre details aside, I would have hoped that our top diplomat would have the skills required to deal with a minor incident in a more smooth manner, instead of ending up on the papers. This is, after all, the person we expect to negotiate with the whole world on our behalf.

Lammy's diplomatic skills have never been obvious to me - even before the unfortunate cab driver encountered him.

Yes this was funny. I can't make head nor tail of it haha.

Nor can I - talk about ‘there are two sides to every story’. The court case should be interesting though I bet it will be settled before it gets to court.

Upstartled · 16/05/2025 15:39

Another poll, Techne out today with a widening lead of reform (29%) over Labour (22%), plus 1 and down 1 respectively. Additionally the net confidence of the population with the government's ability to deal with the pressing issues is -37. That's down 4 this week and 7 over the month.

What I can't understand is why a senior member of government is wandering around without security?

Surely if it was an official journey they should have provided a government car and a security detail?

Something doesn't smell right here 🤔

TheNuthatch · 16/05/2025 17:10

Thanks @Upstartled
More good news for Reform then. Great news about WFA if true, but I won't hold my breath. Maybe they're promising labour mps that they will change wfa in exchange for votes on welfare reform next month. I'd forgotten about the spending review in June, gulp.

OP posts:
Upstartled · 16/05/2025 17:50

I guess that there could be machinations afoot. There probably is. Feel a bit deflated at that thought.

That spending review has snuck up, hasn't it? Wonder how much the departments will have to shoulder the £60 billion pound oversight and how much will get foisted on taxpayers in the Autumn review?

TheNuthatch · 16/05/2025 19:48

@Upstartled check your PMs x

PMQs are so bad, I don’t listen anymore. I just can’t take Starmer’s non answering belittling etc

TheNuthatch · 17/05/2025 10:15

Good morning.

3 of the papers today suggesting that Labour are about to reverse ferret on WFA. Looks more and more likely now. I can't wait to see how they spin that one! Starmer needs to admit that he was wrong!!!! Shock horror. How will he cope 😂.

There are also stories suggesting parking fines will be increased by 75%!
This government know how to make friends don't they! Keep going Labour.

Maybe they’ll reverse everything and then back out the door ;

PMQ was never boring when Boris was on board. I suspect Boris and the truth have rarely ever appeared in the same sentence, but he is entertaining and I have a grudging affection for him.

Had it not been for the Machiavellian Cummings plotting Boris's downfall, it's possible the Conservatives might have rallied and we wouldn't have a bollard masquerading as a decent human being.

*Edited for missing word.

I agree on Cummings and that impact.

Surely the point of the HOC is effective representation of the electorate and not its entertainment value. I am always bemused by all the affection for Johnson. He would have been fine in a circus but was dangerous in government.

When they are debating and legislating, yes. But PMQs is mainly theatre. A chance for the leaders to flex for their backbenchers, no?
Boris was excellent at the 'theatre'.
