They will need to wait until there are enough people of voting age who can't remember the previous Labour government.

Yes and there’s been less chat about lowering the voting age to 16.

Wasn't that one of the very few things they actually put in their manifesto?

I'm not too worried, my 16 yo will do anything for £20. I'll just bribe 😂

I think they’re stuck with the commitment even if 16 year olds get more from tik tok and Reform do better than Labour on SM

Yes exactly.
There are no guarantees that the young would vote labour. I've had this argument on other threads.

I’ve seen a clip of the MP representing the constituency where my oldest son’s school is located, where she raises the issue of school budget cuts to the H of C and mentions a meeting she had had with headteachers in her constituency. Presumably my son’s headteacher was one of them. My other son is at a private school so I am paying VAT on his fees to supposedly fund state schools but my other son’s state school is likely to have a budget cut. It stinks.

Maybe it's time to start stuffing money into the mattress until Labour get booted out! 4 years, tick tock.
If they carry on as they are, we will not see another Labour government for a long time. They will need to wait until there are enough people of voting age who can't remember the previous Labour government.
It feels like we will spend the next 4 years dreading and speculating over every fiscal event. I never felt this pessimistic under the tories.

100% agree

TheNuthatch · 02/06/2025 13:15

Good afternoon Labour lovers. Back from my holibobs 😁. Its very quiet on here.

1195 small boat arrivals in one day at the weekend! Coming soon to a town near you. The footage is shocking. 'Smash the gangs' in action 🙄

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 02/06/2025 14:05

Hi @TheNuthatch welcome back.

The footage is really something. Labour won’t last too long if that keeps being captured.

By-election this week in Scotland I think.

Parsley1234 · 02/06/2025 14:15

its so depressing I do carboots at the weekend as a hobby. The demographic has changed in the 30 years I’ve been doing it - the level of education and people has disintegrated into something most people would not recognise English people with no teeth feral kids - we had travellers turn up Thursday at a local
park on the way to Appleby which had to cancel an event due to shit literally on all the play equipment and the coop having all items nicked from the kids running riot. It’s unbelievable. In a positive note though saw Oliver yesterday in London just FABULOUS

EasternStandard · 02/06/2025 15:17

Starmer looks like he might have a combat outfit moment again.

Likely after a headline to deflect from nearly 1200 arriving in one day.

TheNuthatch · 02/06/2025 15:17

@Parsley1234 I hear you, same. I was rather depressed returning to the UK. I'm really concerned about the irregular migrants. The most common country of origin is now Eritrea. The government's own advice on Eritrea warns of women being verbally and physically harassed in the street by groups of men there.
Say no more about Appleby, I've seen it with my own eyes.
Glad you enjoyed Oliver, sounds fab. I haven't been to the theatre for ages, I need to remedy that.
@EasternStandard Yes, I was just reading about the by election. Gosh, imagine if Reform started gaining seats in Scotland too!

I was just watching Starmer's "battle ready' speech that he gave this morning. 🙄
He has no means of paying for any of it, he cannot give a timescale, and we are apparently so skint that he needs to cut welfare for disabled people. In the next breath, he claims to have stabilised the economy!

@TheNuthatch ypu will love Oliver it’s absolutely fabulous

EasternStandard · 02/06/2025 15:46

This has reminded me of the last time he did boots on the ground stuff and ‘coalition of the willing’.

That’s gone a bit quiet, tg.

Perhaps even they have realised there’s only so many times you can meet up for croissants and a photo op for political capital.

TheNuthatch · 02/06/2025 16:17

Yes same ES.
He wants the poll boost, but he won't explain how it will be funded.

This week's voting intention poll from YouGov

Reform - 28
Labour - 22
Con - 18
Lib Dem - 17
Greens - 9

What I can't understand is why Starmer, when sorting out his reset deal with the EU, did not include an agreement on them fixing their leaky borders. We are paying the French a fortune and yet they are still coming over in droves and there's pictures of the French gendarmes standing around watching as they climb into boats.

Why not discuss how they can walk across Europe without hindrance due to open borders.

But ultimately we know we have to make the UK less attractive and how long before Rwanda is back on the table 😁

Love him or hate him, Nige is on track for No.10 because unfettered immigration pees off all of us.

TheNuthatch · 03/06/2025 12:29

@Liker agree 💯
Starmer couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. The EU saw him coming. There is zero incentive for the French to intervene, why would they? The gendarmes aren't allowed to get their feet wet apparently 🙄.

The home office is releasing old weather reports now in desperation. They are trying to prove that crossings this year have only increased due to good weather.
Unfortunately this has been immediately disproved by sky news. Crossings on bad weather days are also up.

Government draws link between good weather and small boat crossings - but they are rising during bad conditions too

The Home Office says the doubling of good weather days this year compared to the start of 2024 "coincides with small boat arrivals being 46% higher" - but research by Sky's data team shows a rise during bad weather as well.

Oh man they are desperado

It’ll be the repeat footage of over a thousand mostly men running up a beach to cross that sees them out. In fact I wonder how they’ll last the full term.

How could Labour be ousted before their term is up? They may be polling terribly badly, but they still have a massive majority.

TheNuthatch · 03/06/2025 13:02

Remember how well Reform did in Durham in the locals?

Durham Labour MP Mary Foy has referred herself to Parliament's standards watchdog after lobbying on behalf of a trade union run by her partner.

She also received a £2000 donation from the same union. She did not declare her relationship on the MPs register of interests.

Yes it looks like it.

Labour were panicked by the local elections and you can see the policy shifts in reaction. They likely still thought it’s ok it was mostly Conservative seats at LE.

Wales, Scotland and places where Cons are not going to Reform will spook them more.

Then they’ll go even more doolally on policy and it gets harder to continue.

PlutoCat · 03/06/2025 13:50

McDonnell is a decent enough guy, but Labour isn't going to go back to the Corbyn years anytime soon.

Labour will still be in government by 2029 unless some really unforseen happens.. After that, though...who knows. Depends if the Tories have got their act together and how Reform do in Senedd and Holyrood elections. I don't think they will win power in either, but they may well be the second biggest party. Which would be depressing.

EasternStandard · 03/06/2025 13:55

‘Unless something unforeseen happens’

Well that’s it. So there you go it’s saying the same thing.

Who are you saying will win next GE @PlutoCatif Reform are second?

ETA Or did you mean Labour second after Reform
