Not sure what your point is. I’m not a lefty but even I can see that this trade deal is better than nothing. Even Tory peer Stuart Rose thinks it’s ok. He’s a businessman and presumably is pragmatic rather than sticking to political sides. I’d rather listen to him than Harry Cole or Richard Littlejohn.
Brexiteers said they’d cut red tape and now are moaning about something that’s cutting red tape. Couldn’t make it up. British Retail consortium says it’s good. Federation of small businesses are positive. Why does the Sun know better ?

Come on @EasternStandard actual business owners employing brexiteers are saying it’s good. Asda, Morrisons and M and S are all pleased, why listen to Priti Patel ?

Let's see how Reform led councils do in a year's time. I wonder how many by elections there'll be in that time span.

And ? You’re the CEO of M and S ? All these groups are saying it’s good. You don’t, fair enough. You’re unreachable. Don’t listen to facts and logic, your choice.

And that’s it in a nutshell. All purely ideological much like the far left. Can’t be good. It’s Labour. Good wishes for your business. Presumably you won’t be taking advantage of the changes 😂

It's also a shame that Corbyn was a Brexiteer.

Corbyn's biggest mistake was not being clear about how he voted. If he had, 2019 GE might have been very different

Hmm. I kind of agree. I voted remain btw, despite my view that the EU behaves like a mafia. I honestly think that if Corbyn had campaigned vigorously for Remain, alongside Cameron and Osborne, the result could have been different.

How true.

Corbyn like the (in)famous "Beast of Bolsover" was against the EU because it wasn't democratic.

Unfortunately he (Corbyn) sold out his principles to get the leadership of the Labour Party and look where that got him. 🙄

I was just reading that in Cornwall, Reform is having a hissy fit as Labour and Conservatives won't work with them, accusing them of playing "party politics".😅

The issue with this thread is that you can’t even be positive about something because it’s not your side. I guess that’s why Stuart Rose is or was a CEO, he’s flexible and honest. Knows what’s good for business. Unlike Priti Patel or KB. Just contrarian for the sake of it. @TheNuthatch I live with a working class leave voter in a red wall area. Know lots of them and most are for it. Only person who isn’t is an octogenarian guy, absolutely loaded and loves Nige. Intelligent guy tbh. But my Dp put him right. 😂

You are ONE business owner. Many small businesses in a breadth of sectors are saying it's positive. HTH.

A pity some councillors don't put the voters first instead of their own egos.

I would be positive if I thought it was positive. I'm a remainer!
What I see, almost daily, is Starmer handing the keys to No10 to Farage, gift wrapped on a silver platter.

I think if Corbyn had told Labour supporters that he understood that Remain voters were upset, but that he personally had voted for Brexit and wanted to make sure we negotiated a deal that was as good as possible, he wouldn't have lost the Red Wall. I voted Remain, but I would still have voted Labour in those circumstances.

PlutoCat · 20/05/2025 11:37

Why would anyone in Cornwall council feel obliged to work with Reform, given it didn't achieve the majority needed for overall control?

TheNuthatch · 20/05/2025 11:37

@PlutoCat that's a fair point. Corbyn's argument FOR brexit may have resonated more with red wall voters too. He wasn't brave enough, and Labour together wanted Starmer.
I preferred Corbyn. At least you knew what he stood for.

Well I’m going off what reputable experts say. Business leaders and such rather than random twitter posters or man in the street.

Well if you go by Reform don't need policies then you shouldn't be surprised when no one wants to go into coalition because they have no policies. Lib Dem are 2nd in Cornwall so obviously they will seek a coalition with those who have policies. It's called good local governance.

Kugelblitz · 20/05/2025 11:43

Just heard a long list of the business groups that support the new agreements. I can’t believe that actual business owners would actually disagree. It’s mind boggling. And quite sad that our political direction is being influenced by an ever diminishing number of leave voters.
