So why are your facts more worthy than mine ? Whose facts does a government go off to govern ?

They aren't but equally your facts aren't more important than mine.
Government don't always make decisions based on facts. The court case against VAT on school fees proved rhat

Kugelblitz · 20/05/2025 10:03

I’m not on the left. Far from it. But I’ll accept when something is positive. I’m not a gloomer or a doomer, willing on failure like some on here.
I mean, that’s what you want, right ? You want the economy to fail ?

EasternStandard · 20/05/2025 10:03

CinnamonSquirrel · 20/05/2025 09:59

Stop trying to throw people off threads....again.

I can ask that the thread focus on politics rather than the usual bickering and attacks.

Why not? Is it that important to you when there’s very good Starmer threads available

Interested in this thread?

The irony ? I think Brexit was a far more apt example.

Not got a clue. Who knows how they process facts. I guess zilch about immigration or trans people so that’s it.

Great! So you accept that this 'deal' has potentially handed even more advantage to Reform?

Not really. In reality it’s more favourable than what we had. You agree ? Small businesses can trade more freely. That’s a Conservative thing isn’t it ? Free markets doing their job.
If Reform voters are opposed fair enough. Let Nige have a go. I’m well off, won’t affect me. I’ll just watch and shake my head at the gullibility of some people.

You seem more concerned a few posts on mn will impact the economy than Labour, Reeves and Starmer.

Don’t worry we can’t do that, just relax a bit. If the thread is too angering just hide it.

No I don't agree. I think Farage will run a mile with it. I guess will see in the polls going forward what Reform leaning communities think of it. I wouldn't bank on small business owners ever forgiving Starmer and Reeves.

@EasternStandard That's not what you did though. You are trying to send posters to other threads when they are being perfectly civil. Once again, the spirit of MN is not to try to throw people off threads just because they don't agree with your specific views. They have as much right to be on the thread as you do. It is a public forum, remember.

Agreed. She’s complaining about the very things she does. Still waiting for any kind of answer that doesn’t go against Tory party policy. Weird that 🤔

Great. Waiting with the popcorn. Let’s wait to see what his actual policies are. Now they will be a revelation.

Just slow down. It’s not worth this surely. It’s a nice sunny day. Take a breath

I’m happy to answer, what is it you want to know?

TheNuthatch · 20/05/2025 10:25

I watched the press preview on Sky last night. It was Harry Cole from the sun, and Jessica Elgot from the Guardian.
Cole said that on Saturday, Starmer told The Times that the deal was agreed, and committed that he would sign it, come what May.
On Sunday, the EU changed their minds at the last moment and demanded 12 years on fishing, or no deal. Starmer signed, thus handing over the UKs biggest bargaining chip before anything else is agreed. Amateurish.

At least we got a vote on Brexit and it was democratic.

This is just an arbitrary deal without recourse to Parliament set up by a pseudo dictator with any checks or balances being applied.

Reform don't need proper policies to beat Labour. Don't you see??? All they need to do is not be Labour.

To say I am appalled at this is an understatement.

Labour need to start digging their own grave, at this rate they won't last a term.

Yup. What was also telling, is that the journo from the Guardian didn't disagree with him.

It's also a shame that Corbyn was a Brexiteer.

You are completely missing it, same as all Labour supporters. Reform don't need policies, they just need to carry on BAU.
I have never voted Reform but equally I've made sure I understand why people vote for them and I don't just read 1 or 2 papers, I read the full spectrum so I understand the political landscape.

Your derision of mainstream press/press sources you dont agree with, just highlights why you will never understand Reform voters. The arrogance of you are right and everyone else is wrong is the same arrogance of Labour cabinet and the unwillingness to understand Reform voters is guaranteeing them the next election.

Well said. To put people like your Dad in the same category as pensioners who cruise the med over winter is shameful. I think it's the worst politics I've ever seen.

Labour have finally noticed how much it’s impacting their likelihood for re election. Whether they’ll change it, not sure how that’s going.

Not sure what your point is. I’m not a lefty but even I can see that this trade deal is better than nothing. Even Tory peer Stuart Rose thinks it’s ok. He’s a businessman and presumably is pragmatic rather than sticking to political sides. I’d rather listen to him than Harry Cole or Richard Littlejohn.
Brexiteers said they’d cut red tape and now are moaning about something that’s cutting red tape. Couldn’t make it up. British Retail consortium says it’s good. Federation of small businesses are positive. Why does the Sun know better ?

Even if they do reverse it, its been almost a year so the damage is done. The original policy speaks to their ideology and their instincts. Same for PS VAT.
