What exactly do you want this thread to be @TheNuthatch? Is it simply a skewed doomfest? I totally agree with you telling the poster from yesterday to leave but asking someone today if they are on the wrong thread because they raise some positives from the EU deal. Really?

Pardon? What on earth makes you think you have the right to question and police my every word and thought?
I asked placemats if she was on the wrong thread because I believe she is a very regular poster on the Starmer thread. I assumed she had posted accidentally on the wrong thread. I would consider it extremely rude to go on that thread and assert my opinions. Perhaps I should? Most other posters (on both sides of the argument) abide by that courtesy.

I think it would be fine for you to visit the Starmer thread @TheNuthatch . All threads are open to everyone, surely?

Perhaps I should. I doubt I would be very welcome, rightly so!

It’s nice to have a thread without the usual bickering and sarcasm. Although it lands on here every so often.

Nearly every thread is pro Labour / Starmer anyway, this one isn’t.

But you have. You have claimed to have 'infiltrated' Starmerista threads. People can have different views and talk to each other, you know.

@TheNuthatch already visits the thread because they know I post there regularly.

placemats · 19/05/2025 16:22

I just thought I'd post how many businesses and federations like the deal. What's not to like about cheaper food and energy?

EasternStandard · 19/05/2025 16:24

Does every thread have to be the same, the same stuff with no one changing their minds anyway

Why not keep the Starmer one going and this one separately. I don’t see the issue.

CinnamonSquirrel · 19/05/2025 16:31

Are you saying that Nuthatch shouldn't be 'infiltrating' Labour threads?

placemats · 19/05/2025 16:36

It's the current PM Government thread, which happens to be Starmer. Previously it was Sunak, Truss (very briefly) and Johnson.

Wasn’t it a while back, if she has stopped going on there is it a quid pro quo thing

I’m saying not every thread needs to be Labour getting annoyed at anyone who doesn’t support them. There’s plenty of other threads for the usual.

This one is not pro Starmer and isn’t really about bickering or taking lumps out of posters.

This is MN, a public forum, and people are allowed to post within talk guidelines. Most people are fine with that. There are no 'closed' threads. There are platforms like WhatsApp for closed groups.

So why bring up someone going on the Starmer thread?

I don’t see why people need pro Starmer / Labour posts everywhere on mn anyway. Nothing will change if a thread is left without it.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/05/2025 17:23

I think we all know that there are some real issues with imports and exports between us and the EU. Politicians of all colours have acknowledged it. Other than Farage, obviously! I’ll be pleased to see it made easier for trade to happen. They are our closest neighbours, and we can no longer turn to Trump for help on anything. Where I do disagree with the government, it is on support for Israel, because of how the Israeli government are behaving now.

Because the OP said directly to me "I would consider it extremely rude to go on that thread and assert my opinions" whilst previously stating that she had "infiltrated" a "Starmerista" thread. Quite the contradiction, no?

Grizzly, this is becoming quite obsessive and it's creepy tbh.

Yes let’s move on. Plenty of politics to talk about instead.

I haven't actually read the deal properly yet, I just caught the headlines and saw all the upset on fishing.

I read some good analysis on the Telegraph app, I was interested in the £9bn claim and the timescale for that.

I think it’s a real divider. Some will be happy, some will be angry. Where it falls with votes I guess we’ll see.

No need to flatter yourself and name calling is a bit pathetic by anyone's standards.

It's the contradictions in your posting that I'm questioning. You still haven't answered why it is okay for you to "infiltrate" "Starmerista" threads while saying that it would be "extremely rude to go on (that) thread and assert your opinions". A simple explanation is all that's being requested.

Liker · 19/05/2025 19:05

I am watching this EU deal with interest

My brother trained as a lorry driver after Brexit and loved it. He is making a nice amount of money and has managed to save up for a house which seemed unthinkable for him at one time. Now I am worried there will be an influx of cheap EU labour again driving down his wage and bringing back the tough times.

I'd like to see more info on the youth movement deal. They have such high youth unemployment in parts of the EU, why wouldn't they come here to snap up jobs. But will the downside be suppressed wages again - I hope not!

That's a good point about lorry drivers. They were very much in demand when your brother started weren't they?
We used to employ two Polish guys. They had arrived here together pre-brexit looking for work (construction). They left us last year to go back to Poland. Not because of Brexit, but because they could earn more there. They said the Polish economy was booming and the standard of life was better. They were earning loads here, both higher rate tax payers.
I hope it's similar for lorry drivers so there isn't a mad rush to come to the UK for work.
