Until Reform managed to get its foot in the door, it was a choice between the incompetent and spiteful bunch, AKA the Government, or the unremarkable idealists on the opposite side of the House.

I'm not an apologist for Reform either; if anything, they've just muddied the waters and added even more confusion to the mix.

It's all dull and lacklustre - and depressing when you realise the impact these people have on our everyday lives.

We're in a Tory held constituency in a sea of Labour and our MP has become increasingly Reform-like over the last 10 months. Who knows if this is how he ever was and perhaps the leash is untethered in opposition?

But this is a man who, two years ago, was telling me we should remember to be kind on the gender debate and remember all sides in matters of controversy. And now he has re-emerged as a shit-stirrer extraordinaire.

Another one who changes with the wind. It's sad isn't it.

I think it’d be very hard for any leader of the opposition rn. Reform is taking votes no matter what they do really, and from Labour too.

I doubt local councils doing what they do will change that. The one thing that makes it uncertain is how early Labour have lost ground, there’s ages left.

There's an article in the Times today that claims 13,000 children have left private schooling and shifted to state, a figure that makes a mockery of Labour's predicted 3000.

I'm too cheap to shell out for the Times but I wonder if it goes on to say the number of pupils it can absorb into the state before the additional cost of schooling these children is undone by the new taxation policy?

I have a hazy memory of it being about 7000?

Upstartled · 18/05/2025 13:55

Actually, maybe it was 7%!
I think all these polling figures have rapidly filled whatever memory my brain has earmarked for numbers to capacity 😚

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/05/2025 14:04

13,000 according to the ISG census, whose members account for 80% of privately educated pupils, according to the Sunday Times.

That figure is only ISC schools too so 700 who haven't been included

Blimey, when you write it all in one post like that! What a disgrace they are. I don't want them to turn it around, I want them gone!

It’s hardly a big revelation that you want them gone when you never wanted them in the first place. These threads are so melodramatic.

Tbf I thought that re your post on partygate.

There’s plenty of people who have stronger views on Labour than that one. As they’re finding out.

So why read an anti labour thread? It's quite easy to avoid.

I've just read the article. It doesn't say what the figures are before this becomes a negative. It does say that this is just the tip of the iceberg as more will leave at the end of the school year, and at other big junctures.
The £460M to pay for 6500 teachers was based on 3000 kids leaving private. Each of those 13K children is now costing the state approx £7K each!

If they are SEN they will be costing state more than 7K plus 700 schools aren't members of ISC so the data from these schools isn't gathered

Thank you. Always good to read your expertise. I would also be interested to learn how many dc with SEN have been removed, and how many are now home schooling. I'm assuming that will shoot up aswell. It's so wrong, on every level.

SEND kids were always going to be disproportionately impacted by this. Combined with concerns over EHCPs being restricted really gives a picture of how Labour view SEND + kids

I would say that’s more a reflection of a lack of moral compass and/or extreme bias. You choose.

Because I am disgusted with what Labour are doing. However I can see the alternatives for what they are too. Would you rather have Reform in government? The Tories are fucked if they stick with Badenoch or Jenrick. Neither are up to the job. Cleverly is their only remotely credible option.

Yeh no thanks. I don’t need to choose between your obviously skewed options.

Anyway why are we getting this stuff on here. We chat pleasantly without that.

One of the few places on mn.

Fine, I'm happy to hear your anti labour thoughts at last. All we have heard from you up until now is criticism. This thread is not a Reform bashing, or Boris bashing thread. There are other threads to do that if that's your vibe.

Today's topics have been centred around Labour's treatment of the vulnerable, and now kids with SEN. Maybe you could share your thoughts on that?

Accusing posters on this thread of lacking in moral compass is not a great way to endear yourself.

I said what I thought of it already. An ex-strategist’s very effective campaign. As effective as the Brexit campaign.

Why do these posts always rely on sarcasm and emojis anyway.

It’s not doing much for Labour.
