Particularly when followed by

'home made, not from the supermarket'

Get over your sour selves, sick of hearing about this

*disclaimer - I dont eat bread. I have no yeast in this game.

I only eat sourdough..it doesn't bloat me . Never eat sandwiches so just have it with poached eggs or jam.

Calliopespa · 12/05/2025 07:16

Just be pleased people are saying “sourdough” to distinguish it op. It’s when they just call it “ bread” that it’s taken over and you’ve lost the anti-sourdough battle.

When I had a cgm sourdough gave me just as big a glucose spike as regular supermarket bread plus you only get the microbiome benefits from the kneeding process as they are all killed off in cooking. Sadly I don't think any bread is a health food.

You're not eating it right 😂

When I say it became noticeable around 20 years ago I mean ordinary people didn’t buy it or eat it in cafes much before that. Surely we’ve been using our surplus yeast on something much better - Marmite!
someone gave me a sourdough starter called Henry about 12 years ago. I had no idea what it was but planned to keep him alive, then went into hospital unexpectedly he died ⚰️

RedToothBrush · 12/05/2025 09:49

Aren't you like five years late to this complaint?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/05/2025 09:54

This is absolutely correct. I would say sourdough has been in the UK only 20 years

Yes. Before about then I’d only ever heard of it in California.

I agree.
Sourdough Bread
UPF is evil
Organic everything
Kimchi
Stanley cups and water bottles
Protein
Chia pudding
Smoothies and juicing vegetables
My username is explanation enough I think. I’m off now for a cup of tea and half a packet of hobnobs.

Ah the ever present surgically joined Stanley cup that is bigger than a man’s head…

So one can ‘stay hydrated’

(That’s have a drink for anyone who doesn’t speak hipster-bellend )

Oh, I love sourdough (I do buy and not make it, albeit from an indie grocer rather than a supermarket)
And I love pea shoots too.
But I don't care what anyone else eats or if they sweat over making it. And there's definitely a time and a place for white sliced.
Brioche buns for burgers should be banned.

Yeah. Fucking brioche buns. Brioche is the French word for 'falls apart into floaty crumbs immediately'. Stupid for burgers.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/05/2025 17:28

Brioche buns with burgers are ridiculous. I can’t believe they make a point of it on the menu like it’s a good thing.

EsmaCannonball · 12/05/2025 17:50

Sourdough just reminds me of an old-fashioned crusty bloomer that's gone a bit stale.

I like the focaccia from my local posh bakery.

KeepDancing1 · 12/05/2025 20:57

Kelticgold · 11/05/2025 19:16

It is too crusty for my taste, it hurts my gums.

Same here - and I find it stodgy as all hell! Half a slice and I’m bloated and bored with chewing 😆

FancyCatSlave · 12/05/2025 21:01

I’m not keen. It’s fine, I’ll eat it if I have to but much prefer the texture of a “normal” loaf (I don’t mean sliced!)

I never buy it. I think it’s a bit shit actually especially toasted. I agree @soupyspoon wish everyone would STFU about it.

Mind you I also think avocado tastes like soap so I feel I’m not the target audience 🤣

I don’t mind an advocado to be fair but the recent popping up
of ‘jackfruit’ everything on a veggie menu ( presumably because the establishment is trying to kill the veggie and vegan birds with one stone) VOM !

Damnloginpopup · 14/05/2025 08:51

Oh have I got some bullshit for you!

"Got a bargain. £1.50 instead of £2.50"
"It's half a loaf. It's as much as a normal full size loaf."

God Im fed up of hearing about 'sourdough bread'.
