What are you up to today if you have chronic illness?

MewithME · 10/05/2025 14:02

I do like the What are you doing today thread. But as someone with an energy limiting illness, I find myself marvelling at the level of activity that is beyond me.

Sometimes I feel sad about it even after accepting my illness for a few years now.

My week at work has been brutal and I'm feeling very weak and worn down. I am trying to find some inner peace.

This morning I managed a bath and ds helped when shopping arrived. I sat in the garden for a little while but newish neighbours were playing loud music which I found a bit stressful.

I've managed to put a wash on and made some lunch for us. I'm now in bed listening to some music festival in town floating on the breeze. There's sirens going off, so hope nothing bad has happened to anyone.

I'm going to lie down for a couple of hours. Hoping to watch a film with DS later. Pizza for dinner.

I found a nice new podcast called Shedunnit with lots of Agatha Christie in it which is up my street.

I may just lay here and listen to that for a while.

So if you have ME or LC or fibro or anything else that is a flipping funsucker of a thing to deal with, do share your little things. Our world is smaller but we are here.

I will add I know there are those worse off than I am, but not matter what we deal with, chronic illness is hard and it's hard to feel part of the world.

Trying to get the energy to make a magic potion. Lemon, ginger, fresh turmeric, black pepper and honey in a blender. Almost as good as ibu, but goood for the stomach.

Tarkan · 25/05/2025 19:13

Well DD was amazing at her concert. Friend couldn’t come out to the pub after but DH and I are in a beer garden. We risked one more drink and of course the sun has now vanished.

BerfyTigot · 26/05/2025 15:16

Love hearing what people are doing.

I've had a long weekend on the sofa and have finally regained a bit of energy- enough to cook and do a bit of tidying 🥳

I'm watching a Vera episode. I don't feel well and they're a comfort watch for me!

MewithME · 26/05/2025 16:16

Today has been very slow. Mainly been in bed. Had a nice chat in the phone with a friend. Cleaned the kitchen a bit. Made DS some lunch. He's just wanted a day at home so we've done nothing. He's now gaming with friends online and I'm watching some telly. We're ok.

It's funny. Some days like this and I feel ok about it. Some days I don't. I guess today is good as I feel ok about doing nothing and don't have that sense of I should be doing anything.

Heading back from Edinburgh today. It was good to be able to help the PILs with loads of little household jobs, but I am very ready to be back home with nobody else to care for.

ruethewhirl · 26/05/2025 16:54

Slow and lazy today. Went out and met up with friends yesterday, wasn't super active, but it was enough and I'm quite tired today. RA pain is flaring too, so have had a long bath and not done much else.

Stressybetty · 26/05/2025 17:22

Not much done today, managed to get out for a quick food shop which DH put away. Now dosed up with painkillers for my knee on the sofa with the dogs. Back at work tomorrow and need to make gp appointment for knee

Me too, managed a bath but that's about it.

Tarkan · 26/05/2025 18:59

I couldn’t get comfy in bed last night so ended up sleeping on the recliner in the living room. But a neighbour’s meter box door was slamming in the wind all night so I didn’t sleep well at all. Ended up with a 3 hour afternoon nap in bed earlier which I definitely needed.

So, to cheer everyone up, let's think of our favourite jokes.... .
Do you know what a Soviet duo is?
A quartet that's been touring abroad.

MumChp · 26/05/2025 21:23

We made our way to London. Hotel next to Kings' Cross.
And I have of course caught a cold. I feel terrible.

InMySpareTime · 26/05/2025 21:48

@Tryonemoretime why is Pavlov’s hair so sleek and shiny?
Because he conditioned it.

Realisation14 · 27/05/2025 07:26

Why do aliens never visit our solar system?
Because they read the reviews, only one star!

Whatarethese1 · 27/05/2025 07:40

Got into a funk of misery. Need to crawl out of it. DH is not helpful.

Tryonemoretime · 27/05/2025 08:24

So sorry @Whatarethese1 😞

TheodoraCrumpet · 27/05/2025 11:16

Trough of misery here too. Shit, isn't it? Everything else seems to be breaking down, not just me, and I find it hard to keep a sense of proportion and not catastrophise. DH has just rung from work to ask if my latest injury is healed enough to do X. Sure, I said, not really thinking it through what with lack of sleep and opiates. Five minutes later the full implications seep through the brain fog. I realise that X isn't something I would want to do even in tip top condition, and now I feel both guilt and anger. Maybe I'll feel better about it tomorrow.

Whatarethese1 · 27/05/2025 12:02

Did some very gentle stretches then spent some time in the garden. Feeling quite a bit better, though still frustrated and down. Hoping I don’t pay for it tomorrow. Will definitely get an early night.

Have vaccine induced lupus and I have not been able to get an answer on avoiding sun. No malar rash so will spend some time outside.

Orangesandlemons77 · 27/05/2025 14:17

I met a lady in the hospital with lupus so I know how difficult that can be.

Very wet here today, went to the GPs as they called to say my PIP form is done (I asked to look at it before they sent it) had a look and they haven't written anything, just stuck on a summary ands signed it, at least they have done it I suppose.

Tarkan · 27/05/2025 16:25

Having a bad pain day today. Must have slept funny as my neck was agony when I got up. And my dodgy ankle/foot is aching like hell again today. So I figured some gentle housework would be fine but I’ve done my back in while washing the dishes so I’ve given up now. Rest day it is.

Maddy70 · 27/05/2025 16:51

I've been for lunch with my friend now having a bit of a siesta scrolling Mumsnet :)

BerfyTigot · 27/05/2025 22:04

@Whatarethese1 so sorry to hear that. Keep posting here for support. Hope tomorrow is better for you xx

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 27/05/2025 22:28

I have my ex sister in law staying for a week, she arrived last night. She can't stay with my ex's family as there is a high chance she will kill someone at least she doesn't blow up on me. So I've hosted her every other year when she comes "home".

I'm on day 8 of a migraine attack. Thankfully I have reached the hangover stage of it so can eat and watch TV in the background.

The previous one was only gone less than 24h after 15 days, the one before that was 18 days with less than 24h break so it's been constant.

I also got my contraceptive implant replaced today so I'm currently chilling out in my room watching Bridget Jones mad about the boy..

Tomorrow is a rest day. SIL can sort herself out. She is going to cook tomorrow night.

ruethewhirl · 28/05/2025 10:26

Just trying to get through the work day after two lousy nights’ sleep in a row. 😩 Will probably go straight to bed after work as I doubt I’ll have any function left by then.
