What are you up to today if you have chronic illness?

MewithME · 10/05/2025 14:02

I do like the What are you doing today thread. But as someone with an energy limiting illness, I find myself marvelling at the level of activity that is beyond me.

Sometimes I feel sad about it even after accepting my illness for a few years now.

My week at work has been brutal and I'm feeling very weak and worn down. I am trying to find some inner peace.

This morning I managed a bath and ds helped when shopping arrived. I sat in the garden for a little while but newish neighbours were playing loud music which I found a bit stressful.

I've managed to put a wash on and made some lunch for us. I'm now in bed listening to some music festival in town floating on the breeze. There's sirens going off, so hope nothing bad has happened to anyone.

I'm going to lie down for a couple of hours. Hoping to watch a film with DS later. Pizza for dinner.

I found a nice new podcast called Shedunnit with lots of Agatha Christie in it which is up my street.

I may just lay here and listen to that for a while.

So if you have ME or LC or fibro or anything else that is a flipping funsucker of a thing to deal with, do share your little things. Our world is smaller but we are here.

I will add I know there are those worse off than I am, but not matter what we deal with, chronic illness is hard and it's hard to feel part of the world.

Iv spent all morning chasing drs so now its nap time.

Gilead · 22/05/2025 15:03

Bugger, have ended up in A&E. GP not happy with symptoms!

TheMEmonsterisreal · 22/05/2025 15:21

Good luck in A&E @Gilead, hope you don’t have to wait too long and that they can identify and treat the problem.
Windy here today, so have abandoned hopes of spending time in the garden, but at least I have got washing on the line, so all is not lost.
Had a nice catch up chat on the phone with an old friend, but am now exhausted and back in bed for the afternoon.

Exciting trip into town today to get some bird food for the parrot as it had run out completely. Town was busy and hot and I was glad to get back.

Hoping for a good day for everyone and things go OK for those in hospital or chasing doctors Flowers

I couldn't work out why I woke up this morning feeling so horribly weak. Someone rang the door to collect some dance shoes I was giving away, and I could barely make my legs room to get downstairs

A few hours later the penny dropped when my period started.

Does anyone else get flares that tie in with their period ? Sometimes it feels like a cruel joke! On the other hand I guess I feel a bit more like nesting then anyway. Just feel like my body is attacking me from every angle

I have rheumatoid arthritis and mine always flares around then too. My rheumatologist did say now I'm approaching the menopause that it will happen unfortunately 😔

Gilead · 22/05/2025 18:17

ooh what parrots? Had an African grey, red necked eclectus and cockatiel growing up. Used to terrify my friends when they'd talk whilst hiding

Orangesandlemons77 · 22/05/2025 21:56

It's a pineapple conure and quite a cheeky chap!

Phunkychicken · 23/05/2025 07:25

Just googled, they're gorgeous

Realisation14 · 23/05/2025 07:31

What's everyone doing today? A trip to Specsavers for me to collect my new glasses.

CassandraWebb · 23/05/2025 08:42

I'm not feeling great, my neck feels week and my legs are heavy. But I have to work (thankfully at home)

Luckily it's the weekend tomorrow and the children want a fairly chilled one so hoping I can rest myself better!

CassandraWebb · 23/05/2025 08:55

Sorry, that was a gloomy post! I know I am incredibly privileged to be able to work pretty much full time from home. And that Myasthenia doesn't come with brain fog etc so work is possible.

And I enjoy my job. My body just annoys me Grin

Pasithean · 23/05/2025 10:24

MumChp · 23/05/2025 18:46

I have worked 3 nights this week and now I am tired. Spend most of yesterday and today in bed.

We are going to a birthday tomorrow. Lots of public transportation. Makes me tired just thinking of it. Managed to sort the presents today.

I had a green-cheeked conure for years.
Yours is more colourful. It's a brillant parrot I think. Mine played so many tricks.

They can be such characters can't they? they're quite a good pet with disabilities or health problems too as don't need e.g. walking like a dog, or as much attention (although they do like a fuss!)

It was character of it's own and it often put up the agenda. Tbh it had it's own way to get us to do what it wanted!
It was very talkative, very attentive to us and a loving bird. Lots of fuss but I could sit in the counch.
With very definite ideas about big and small things in everyday life and not at all afraid of expressing them....

It could hear a Coca-Cola being opened in the kitchen and there wasn't peace until it had a sip of it. It refused other brands....
It wouldn't say no if there was a glass of red wine left on the table... at least we didn't drink under the table, though.

We has a very calm Persian cat too as these cats often are. The parrot used to ride on the cat's back. The cat didn't mind. They were best friends.

It loved a bath in the sink. Another way of cleaning the kitchen...
Parrots are great pets and yes, you don't have to walk it like a dog. I liked that too.

Orangesandlemons77 · 23/05/2025 20:33

:) Ours loves a bath too, we put a bowl of water out for it, then it flies around spraying us with the water, and looking like a drenched rat for a while!

He also is partial to trying our red wine. He seems more keen on my DH than me for some reason though and will often strut about chittering like he's giving me a telling off!

An aquarium / fish is also nice..

I had daily telling offs...

We have two Persians cats. They double as sofa cushions. Very quite but lovely. Not a lot of fuss.

Aquariums are so pretty and fish so calm to watch. My sister used to have one.

I finished my book tonight. It takes a while sometimes to concentrate enough. I had it for my birthday in April.

Orangesandlemons77 · 23/05/2025 21:15

I have a new book today and went to the aqua aerobics class which is nice and gentle, a pretty good day overall.

Hoping for a nice weekend for everyone

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 23/05/2025 21:30

I had a phone call with the dwp today I'm regard to UC migration. I was anxious about it but all fine.

Other than that I repotted a plant and listened to an audio book- Anthony Horowitz's The Word is Murder. I had a long nap this afternoon. Missing the warmer weather but the sun was out most of the day which was lovely.

MumChp · 24/05/2025 08:27

My whole body hurts. A bad night's sleep and a birthday celebration with 4 hours of public transport. I don't feel like doing today.
