CO OP Completely Empty

How's your local Co Op ? Ours is mostly empty apart from a few bits here and there on various shelves. Fridges are completely empty. I think Co Op have handled this situation shocking, in our area we didn't know anything was wrong as they said they had fridge issues and deliveries were late arriving. I popped in after work for gin thankfully they had that or I would have lost my shit at those cyber hackers 😅

M&S sent an email apologising and updates. Nothing like that from Co Op not even an apology email for our data being stolen 🙄

There was a message put out on Co-op's Facebook 6 days ago and 4 days ago

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:30

@purpleme12 thanks for that info. Am not on Facebook so probably why I didn't see it. Surely they aren't just going to put something on social media and that's it. That's a really bad way to treat customers.

I've had an email from them (same as was on their social media). I'm sure they are much more frustrated than you are!

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:38

They probably are @Whispee but to sit with shops completely empty is terrible. Different if you have a choice of shops to visit. I've never had any emails from them.

I've been into one to day. There are notices on the cabinets. One lady said they didn't know when it would end. Very little choice.

The only other option would be to shut the shops though, and like you said there is still stock in there? Not sure what other options there are.

What about their many customers who aren't on Facebook?

purpleme12 · 09/05/2025 17:45

I don't know, I don't work for them 🤣

FancyCatSlave · 09/05/2025 17:46

Ours is empty of most things, but I’ve had at least 2 emails from them, saw the socials and it’s been on the news apps plenty of times so not sure how you can have missed it?

As we are rural and co-op is one of our main supermarkets (not just a small local shop) it’s a massive PITA!

But I get that it’s not their fault this time. Usually when they run empty it’s when they spectacularly fail to predict the tourist influx on bank hols

OverlyLord · 09/05/2025 17:46

I haven’t been in this week but I went in last week and all the satsumas were green with furry mould!
There’s no way the staff didn’t notice this but I guess because a computer didn’t tell them they should be taken off the shelf they just didn’t bother!

Put me right of them tbh

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:47

@OurManyEnds yeah there is stock in mine but not enough to fill 3 trollies and others are completely empty. I get they are opening for the money but when you have no stick to sell it would be cheaper closing.

OP posts:
OverlyLord · 09/05/2025 17:47

And I’ve had zero communication from them

Serencwtch · 09/05/2025 17:49

Our co-op doesn't seem too bad. It's attached to a petrol station so busy anyway.

M&S is really empty & has been for a couple of weeks. The sandwich meal deal has signs up saying cancelled & blinds down on fridges as not a single sandwich, salad etc. The only thing that seems to be unaffected is the beers & wine (guess they have more in stock in warehouses)

I think both companies are doing everything they can to resolve it. Staff in both shops are helpful & have info signs up.
Don't see how emails, Facebook posts etc would make any difference.

Arlanymor · 09/05/2025 17:50

As you say, it's down to the cyber attack, and I got two emails from Co Op apologising and stating the case - guess you don't have a Co Op card or if you do they don't have your current details? That's on you really.

I have two Co Ops close to me - the one is the city centre is empty, the one near me in the marina is semi-empty. They all have signs up - albeit printed A4 done at the last minute, but what else could they do? Their distribution chains have been totally disrupted. But as I say, I got an email and it has been in the news.

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:51

@FancyCatSlave I don't use social media except mumsnet if you want to call here sm. I don't use news apps.

@OverlyLord that's 🤢

Just out of interest is marks shops sitting empty? There are ways Co Op could get stock into shops without computers.

They have told the media that they're prioritising remote and Ireland stores, where they are the only shop for miles.

Our local coop is stripped bare but we have 3 other convenience stores within 5 minutes walk of it, plus a butcher and a greggs and also several large supermarkets and other purveyors of food, toiletries and household goods an easy walk, drive or bus ride away, so it's no big deal for us.

Co-op reroutes stock to rural stores amid cyber attack disruptions - Retail Gazette

The Co-op is redirecting food and drink supplies to stores in rural and remote areas in a bid to protect isolated communities from shortages following a serious cyber attack.

@Arlanymor I do have a card which my now stolen details are correct on. No need to be so snippy! I've not seen it on the news and our Co Op has no signs up. Except for one last week which said the fridge was broken.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 09/05/2025 17:54

The Highlands and islands of Scotland are in dire straits as the co-op is pretty much the only supermarket. I'm not talking about Inverness etc but elsewhere. Someone was bemoaning it on twitter.

shellyleppard · 09/05/2025 17:55

I had a couple of emails apologising for the lack of stock in the shops. Went in the other day and it was like a plague of locusts had descended..... Hardly anything on the shelves. No fresh fruit or vegetables, meat section was empty. Managed to get the essentials....breaded, milk and eggs

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:55

@PickAChew thanks for that link. I am rural and there's nothing much in mine. Its getting a bit like Covid times here people are trying to help the elderly etc.

No they can't. It's all ordered via computer. Deliveries, stock etc all controlled by these systems. Your membership is electronic. The co op tried to downplay the hack. I know someone who works behind the scenes and it's not good. M&S may be paying the ransom.

Snippy? Just explaining my experience. Do you know for sure your details were stolen or are you being dramatic? Because if you don't get emails from Co Op then they don't have your details on file to steal...

You're the one who doesn't watch the news and expects to magically be told what the situation is. Sorry that your store is busily trying to handle stuff and hasn't had time to put signs up.

I hope they manage to sort something out, soon. They've got a duty to do so when they've ended up the only retailer in an area, really.

Judiezones · 09/05/2025 18:00

I haven't been in a Co-op but I have noticed that the only thing missing in our M&S seems to be tinned soup!

EleanorReally · 09/05/2025 18:00

i couldnt get milk on wednesday but heard on the radio how the shelves are bare, worrying for those who rely heavily on it
