CO OP Completely Empty

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 17:23

How's your local Co Op ? Ours is mostly empty apart from a few bits here and there on various shelves. Fridges are completely empty. I think Co Op have handled this situation shocking, in our area we didn't know anything was wrong as they said they had fridge issues and deliveries were late arriving. I popped in after work for gin thankfully they had that or I would have lost my shit at those cyber hackers 😅

M&S sent an email apologising and updates. Nothing like that from Co Op not even an apology email for our data being stolen 🙄

The Highlands and islands of Scotland are in dire straits as the co-op is pretty much the only supermarket. I'm not talking about Inverness etc but elsewhere. Someone was bemoaning it on twitter.

Yes it is really bad, the Co Op props up rural highlands, there’s no chance of just popping to Inverness for shopping! Tesco, Asda and Morrisons do deliver up north and west but the slots get booked up very quickly.

It’s very much a reminder of how vulnerable our food supply chain is here. Even with a crash on the A9 there can be a noticeable decrease in food in the shops if lorries can’t get here (bar Tesco since they use rail).

Yep, I'm on Skye and Co Op is the only supermarket on the island. They've been empty for days now, though I believe they had a small delivery today. It's the Skye Live festival this weekend so Portree will look like a plague of locusts has gone through it by Monday morning.

Our nearest other supermarket is over 3 hours away by car.

@Arlanymor I hope your day gets better. Must be tough being the CEO of Co Op in these times.

@Pedallleur is that what the hackers do? Ask for £ they have definitely down played things here.

I only found out about the hacks on here or I wouldn't have known anything about them. I like to keep a distance from the news and social media.

@shellyleppard mines had a few packets of crumpets no bread, milk nothing.

And M&S do have/have had empty shelves. They will not have paid the ransom (because you can't take the hackers at their word - you don't know what they will leave behind) and will be re-building their systems. They were busy scanning shelves when I was in on Monday, after re-stocking the fresh food, though they were almost completely out of tjns and jars in the ambient aisles.

MagellanicPenguin · 09/05/2025 18:05

Our coop has very little but has loads of mushrooms and strawberries. So we are working out what we can make with those.😂

shellyleppard · 09/05/2025 18:06

@Thegirlinthegreenscarf not good, can't do much with crumpets....

PickAChew · 09/05/2025 17:44

What about their many customers who aren't on Facebook?

There are actual notices in the stores and in the windows and on the doors. You can't miss them (except OP somehow did!)

Wheech · 09/05/2025 18:07

Ours seems normal except for fresh fruit and veg, and milk. I feel sorry for them. As for communicating with customers whose data has been stolen, they may still not have exact details yet. When mine was stolen as a result of my accountant Nixon Williams (big national) it was months before I was notified.

Not the CEO of anything except common sense. If you 'like to keep your distance from the news' then what do you expect? A personal pigeon delivering a message about your local shop?

MissMarplesNiece · 09/05/2025 18:07

DH has just come in from work and called in to Co op on his way home to get bread & milk - shelves empty. Also no fresh veg. This is second day its been like this.

Ah, I haven't bothered stopping by my store because I knew it would be pointless!

Mushroom soup and strawberries for dessert 🤣

Oh is this cyber hacking why the M&S cafe have run out of the things on the breakfast menu?

PiggyPigalle · 09/05/2025 18:09

I didn't know ours was empty until last night. Its a Lincolnshire coop which is supposed to be independent of the coop. They're always reminding us of it, my daughter presented her coop card in my local one but they won't accept it. "We're nothing to do with the coop". Yet here they are, emptied out, so they must share something.

I hate them for more reasons than that, only good thing is the staff are very nice. Seven miles to another food store, so sometimes I'm forced to use them.

Because my Co Op has no notices anywhere about any of this. Staff haven't even been telling customers about the hack, just making excuses.

That would be lovely, please do let me know when Co Op rolls out this service 🤣

It's the vulnerable I really feel for such a shame. Agree with pp who have said they moved into rural areas and are the only shop. They need to step up and at least be honest with what's happening.

While this was going on their CEO was busy declaring the Supreme Court judgment on women’s rights a “step back” and confirmed that they would continue breaking the law by letting staff use whatever toilet they prefer, so she’s fucking incompetent

Elderflower14 · 09/05/2025 18:15

I work for the Co op. We have a prominent sign on our video screen apologising for the problems!

ItGhoul · 09/05/2025 18:16

Co-op members have been emailed. My other half is a member and has had at least one email.

If you aren’t a member then you obviously won’t get a message.

LegallyDefinedWoman · 09/05/2025 18:17

The attack has screwed the co-op systems. They are having to operate very manually right now, and that means they've decided to prioritise certain stores and certain product lines. They can't access their systems and simply can't operate in a full business-as-usual manner. M&S although similarly affected had rather more robust IT systems than Co-op - within the industry some of co-op operating systems are said to be a little archaic which isn't helping now.

I don't disagree with the second part. But you've kind of only picked up on as the thread has gone on as this started off so glib...

Thegirlinthegreenscarf · 09/05/2025 18:19

@Elderflower14 interesting, thank you. We don't have any screens except the old red/green signs outside above the door from social distancing.

In my area m&s has tons of food co-op is completely empty of fresh products although they do have biscuits and toilet roll

Brightermornings · 09/05/2025 18:20

I work for a food wholesaler and we were hacked a few years ago. Trust me it is not easy to recover. Depending on how far the hack got it may so have affected the tills in the shops. I feel for anyone working at the co-op it was awful. The company I work for is supplying the co op with some goods
to sell.

They say they're prioritising certain stores but you could have fooled me...

Co-op cyber attack leaves island shop shelves empty

The attack has disrupted deliveries to island communities where Co-op is one of the biggest retailers.
