Absolutely. The same 5% that would benefit from his legislative agenda.

Keir Starmer's net favourability rating has dropped 12pts in a month to -46, his lowest level ever, including a 34pt drop among Labour voters

Thatcher’s dissatisfaction rating was -70 in early 81. It’s amazing how fickle the UK electorate is.

Starmer is taking a real beating in the polls 😬

He would do well to fire his advisors who seem to be focused on pleasing gbeebies viewers only

"gbeebies" that's hilarious!

Amazing what a good war will do for approval ratings

You should have seen the faux horror when I said exactly that not long ago!

Gorgeous @cardibach

LBC has a phone in at the moment on whether Reform is a cult. I wonder if it is beginning to finally dawn on LBC and its ilk that Farage would be a major disaster for the UK if he became PM and that endlessly promoting him is not a good move.

I’ve always wondered about relations between James O’brien and Nick Ferrari. Very different political views and Ferrari has always disliked labour whatever they do.

They’re both horrible.

Badenoch not far behind but whats more worrying, perhaps, is that Farages approval is up across ALL parties.

mho, Starmer nor Badenoch will make it to the next GE, he wasn't really popular leading into the GE and the expenses thing was the nail in the coffin, however unfairly portrayed.

PandoraSocks · 16/05/2025 16:39

I am really worried about Wales.

I agree to Starmer not making it to the next GE. I was discussing this with my son who has a Politics exam coming up and he seems to think, Peter Kyle might be a replacement.

Alexandra2001 · 16/05/2025 16:44

Wow Peter Kyle, i'd have never thought of him but thinking about it, could work if he can get a higher profile.

Trouble is Lab have a habit of hanging on to leaders who wont go.

Shame as i think Starmer is doing a good job, it's just those expenses - why oh why??? and WFA, all left a bit of a taste in the mouth.

But on reflection, following this week's focus on appealing to potential Reform voters I'm not sure if he's appeal is broad enough.

It’s only this week though. I’m very dubious about the sustainability of Reform’s popularity.

Bravo Nigel! That’s the spirit.
promising to reverse a deal that hasn’t been agreed and you don’t know anything about.
GDP is for numpties.

I feel a bit guilty putting that online as I think Starmer is in a bit of a corner really but I also felt bad for Theresa May when she cried in her departure speech and I've never voted for the Conservatives and have no sympathy for their values at all! I do often think who would actually go into politics these days, I mean those with integrity must be quite tough!

SerendipityJane · 16/05/2025 17:02

I also felt bad for Theresa May when she cried in her departure speech

  • "Hostile environment"
  • Lying about cats and deportations
  • Selling the entire UK out for the votes of the DUP.

I managed to remain sanguine about her leaving and it's manner.

Trouble is Lab have a habit of hanging on to leaders who wont go.

Hardly ... as above they clung on to Theresa May for 2 years. And then Boris was almost impossible to flush. The fact they got of Truss so quickly is a stark testament to how ghastly she must have been.

Don't get me wrong, I had no time for TM, I was trying to explain that I'm perhaps a not good judge of Starmer's speech this week as personality wise my default is a bit soft!

Rightly or wrongly my judgement started with Theresa May being a Tory. That (ironically) tends to rinse me of sympathy.

Sorry for the offence.

🤔

Offence ?

None taken ?! You'll really have to try some to move my offence meter. And while I am well aware that makes me a bad MumsNetter, it's just how I am.

I am extremely aware that being desensitised to offence can risk being unwittingly offensive, and I work very hard to self police. I permanently apologise if that slips and I do accidentally offend someone.

Of course if I meant it .... 😈

derxa · 16/05/2025 17:27

The only impressive Cabinet member is Wes Streeting So what that he’s ambitious. He makes clear statements and changes his mind with an explanation. When he speaks I listen. He doesn’t seem to hand out insults like Keir.

Oh well sorry again for mistaking your detached irony for offence.

MsJinks · 16/05/2025 17:47

I tend to think it’s too early to consider changing Starmer, personally whilst I have some qualms about unexpected (to me) policy and rhetoric he is at least getting work done to govern the country, on a wider scale it’s disruptive to governing and party to start changing leaders, plans etc and plays into others’ hands. Stability shouldn’t be underestimated.
Whilst disappointed Reform appear to be doing well and personally can’t abide them I think it’s too early to assume where they will be in 4 years. Maintaining their populist appeal for this time is made more difficult by fallouts that will continue due to poor choices of councillors and at party level between Yaxley sympathisers and more apparently moderate (?!) Reform people plus disaffected Reform people may wander into newer, shinier parties splitting loyalties. I have my doubts around Farage wanting to be Pm - he may vaguely want it, but I think he may be self aware sufficiently to know that then he couldn’t dodge the work of it which he wouldn’t want. His skill is in agitating and attracting voters (can’t understand it but it seems true!) A different leader would not have his ‘appeal’. I think Farage probably would like a deal with Tories to get in and then promotion to HoL as his best outcome.
I can only actually see a Reform/Tory join up being possibly successful as a 2nd party in the next election (God help us but…) - but there are a lot of fallouts and changes to go in 4 years.
