Worrying news

Counter-terrorism police have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of arson at the home of UK PM Sir Keir Starmer.

Not for some on MN. Some are disappointed only a door was set alight.

bombastix · 13/05/2025 09:13

FGS. Someone could have been killed. Arson can get you a life sentence and rightly so. The house is rented.

It would be interesting to know the background of the perpetrator. It is such a terrible thing to do.

I saw that too before it was deleted. Very nasty.

I don’t really want to know. I guess we will find out. Given the polarisation in the UK there is no good answer.

That is a good point.

I am surprised the poster wasn't suspended tbh.

I would be quite interested in knowing who actually

I’m not. Awful as it was I’ve seen worse.

True. There is an immense amount of hate on SM generally directed at Starmer. I am totally disillusioned with him, but the vile things said are alarming and uncalled for. People seem to have forgotten Jo Cox and David Amess.

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2025 09:55

And here is Jenrick, spouting even more hatred

Robert Jenrick backs PM with claim UK already an ‘island of strangers’ in some places “Aggressive levels of mass migration have made us more divided... for example central Bradford - 50 per cent of people were born outside of the UK”, he said

Speaking to Times Radio, the shadow justice secretary added: “There are places like Dagenham where the white British population has fallen by almost 60 per cent in the last 25 years"

(Highest % of people born abroad in census 2021: - Kensington & Chelsea (54%) - Bradford, overall, was 19%)

Well, he was part of the Govt that helped bring this about, same with Philp, trying to blame Labour for things they did whilst in Govt.

Jenrick is possibly, Farage apart, the most vile of the current crop of politicians.

BIossomtoes · 13/05/2025 10:02

Jenrick’s worse than Farage in my opinion. So is Braverman.

When they appear in court we will find out no doubt, even if just the initial appearance.

I agree, he is not nicknamed Honest Bob without good reason.

Robert Jenrick, happy to be in a government headed by someone born in the U.S.

I'm surprised Labour isn't making more of this....

Farage helped give us Brexit, the Tories implemented this disasterous policy.

Completely baffled that anyone can think putting care homes and nursing under threat is what our country needs right now even though they won't do the review for years. Exactly what I was worried about post Brexit - jobs women rely on - going, more strain on NHS to be mental health and elderly support because our social sector has almost completely dissolved. Not what you expect from Labour.
Is anyone else hoping for a vote of no confidence in Starmer? I honestly can't think of anyone who voted for anything they have implemented so far. I was considering lending my vote but am glad I didn't contribute to their punching down policies.

Who did you lend your vote to out of interest?

The Labour Party do not defenestrate their leaders if they win elections. They are generally placid.

VoNC is not going to happen. What remains of the Tribune Left may issue strong words. That’s about it.

bombastix · 13/05/2025 10:23

I say this because the idea that political leaders suddenly get done over the Labour Party is truly for the birds. It has all the rigour of a rice pudding in killing its leaders.

This is a party where the Cabinet discussed whether it should send Christmas cards to the Politburo after the 1968 repressions in Eastern Europe. By collective decision making….

King Charles is to host Emmanuel Macron on a state visit to the UK
from 8-10 July, Buckingham Palace has announced.

If anyone needs to be replaced is the person(s) advising Starmer

No. I don't like what the Labour party is doing, but the last thing we need is another revolving door of PMs. As pps say, it is not the Labour way.

Agreed. I am sure McSweeney is behind a lot of this shift to the right. Surely Starmer can see the damage being done?

After the Reform success Labour had a choice: chase the Reform vote or rethink. It is infuriating that it has chosen the former.

groovylady · 13/05/2025 10:43

I am utterly appalled by what Starmer is saying.
I will not be voting Labour again.
