Broke DP's favourite mug

NellieTheElephant1 · 06/05/2025 17:56

Emptying the dishwasher and it flew out of my hands and smashed into smithereens on the kitchen floor😭 It's an old Charlie and Lola one that says 'excuse me but this is my mug' - not made any more. I've looked on Ebay, Vinted etc, does anyone have any ideas where else I could look for a replacement?šŸ™

Kindly, it’s just a mug. Is he very attached to it?

DoNotLikeItGreenEggsAndHam · 06/05/2025 18:06

I’d start a new thread with the mug info in the title.

I don’t understand people who haven’t got favourite mugs or who think ā€˜it’s only a mug’. It’s something that I imagine psychopaths would think.

I don’t have an attachment to a particular mug and don’t think I’m a psychopath. I have mugs I prefer to other mugs but that’s as far as it goes really

Psychopaths rarely self-identify, @LittleLabrador.

Ah OP been there when I broke husband's sports direct mug. Perfect size apparently. Luckily those are easy to come by.

Good luck. I don't suppose you have a picture of it, it would be easier to track one down.

IThoughtHeWasWithYou · 06/05/2025 18:12

I can relate. DP broke his favourite mug a few months back. It was a decade old. He’s currently carefully browsing over time to select a new one, and frowning at my favourite mug every time I use it! šŸ˜‚ The bog standard ā€œguestā€ mugs just aren’t cutting it.

bramblefoot · 06/05/2025 18:14

Have you an image of the mug OP? People are pretty good at finding things on here. Just because there isn't one on Vinted or ebay now doesn't mean there never will be.

These things happen. As an adult im sure DP will be disappointed but understanding, anything else would be a bit ridiculous in these circumstances.

TennesseeStella · 06/05/2025 18:15

An adult's favourite mug has Charlie and Lola on it? OK...

calamariqueen · 06/05/2025 18:18

Perhaps if he loves mugs he will be excited at the prospect of finding a NEW favourite mug? I broke my favourite mug of 15 years of work, after bringing it home following redundancy. That brought up all sorts of emotions, but I bought a far nicer one to replace it so I’ve healed šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

MargaretThursday · 06/05/2025 18:21

I don't think these are still for sale, but there's a photo here for people to see.

@NellieTheElephant1 Maybe buy a personalised new mug that says ā€˜sorry I broke your favourite mug’ šŸ˜…

ZoggyStirdust · 06/05/2025 18:23

Why are people so sneery?

I have a favourite mug. My kids got it me for my birthday years ago and it was the first present they actually chose for me by themselves. It has a chip and is faded, but id be gutted if it broke

nothing wrong with a favourite for sentimental reasons

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/05/2025 18:53

It's mclaggan smith. They have some other designs on ebay and it might appear in the future

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 06/05/2025 19:02

What about using one of those sites where you design your own?
Make the picture as best you can and upload it, and they'll put it on a mug for you.

What is wrong with the internet? There's a million reasons why this could be. Maybe his kid bought it for him.

Use your brain and ask yourself if your comment is necessary before posting.

No, there isn't anything wrong with having a favourite mug.

But it's still just a mug.

An adult should be able to cope with the trauma.

Are you always this patronising or do you save it for the internet?

But she didn’t say one word about his reaction. She didn’t say he was traumatised and she didn’t say he couldn’t cope. Maybe she just likes her husband. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

This is what I was going to suggest. I wouldn't normally condone ripping off an artist's work but it's a one off for your personal use. I think it would be quite straightforward to recreate.

Queenest · 06/05/2025 19:38

Maybe contact mclaggan smith mugs and ask if they have one available or can print one for you.

cheeseismydownfall · 06/05/2025 19:43

The font (or close to it) is called Badloc, so you can recreate the typography.

And it is easy to find a picture of Charlie with a transparent background

@ZoggyStirdust To stop the chip spreading, it's fairly easy to repair with Miliput. Even easier, is Sugru, which I've used on mugs and plates that have since gone through the dishwasher many times. I like to use a contrasting colour which, weirdly, is more forgiving than an imperfect near-match.
