Can't believe I didn't used to shower before bed.

I have fine, thin hair that needs washing every morning or it looks greasy. For YEARS I have showered every morning, gone about my day, and then fallen into bed at the end of the day. Didn't really think about it.

But recently I have started having a quick shower just before bed and it has changed everything! It is SO NICE being all clean and getting into a nice clean bed. I am now horrified by the idea of falling into bed all covered in the day's grime to marinade all night. Yuck. (I do still shower in the morning too - can't face the day without washing my hair).

Evening showers. 10/10. Highly recommend.

Hair isn’t ’meant’ to be washed at all. I’ve washed mine pretty much every day since 1962 and it looks great.

Orangesinthebag · 28/04/2025 19:52

Showering twice a day?? Your water bills must be extortionate!
And it's not great for the environment either
Blimey, when I was a kid we didn't have a shower & everyone had a bath once a week.
Guess what, we all survived!

Strawberrycupcakes · 28/04/2025 19:57

I heard dry shampoo has some harmful ingredients like benzine also the aerosol is bad for the environment. Washing the hair seems like a safe and simple solution.

Newmumburnout · 28/04/2025 21:27

I shower on an evening. I don't like getting into bed without one. I was my hair every 3 days and use cornflour as dry shampoo works a treat.

upinaballoon · 28/04/2025 22:03

Is it possible to have a nice little washy before bed-time or must it be a shower?

Good god, why don't you just wash your hair? Cornflour in your hair, crazy.

When the first post DOESN’T nail it.
my fine hair gets greasy quickly. Tried training it during the pandemic. Didn’t work. You know what did work?- Being pregnant and breastfeeding but as soon as I stopped breastfeeding it went right back to being greasy again.
my conclusion is that it’s hormones and nothing to do with how often I was it.

I had exactly the same when I was pregnant, weird isn’t it!

My leg and underarm hair pretty much stopped growing during that time too

What are you doing during the day that you fall into bed full of grime? Dumpster diving? Cleaning sewers?

Is this the new thing... People will now be judged for not showering twice a day? Ffs! 🙄

It's pathetic isn't it? Imagine having such a dull life that judging people for their showering habits brings such joy.

Funnily enough I've never fallen into bed full of grime in my life, even when I was doing work termed manual labour. As for all this horror about sitting on public toilet seats - wtf??!!

ThisUsernameIsNowTaken · 28/04/2025 23:11

Yep, I shower in the morning, at 11, 3 and 9 p.m. And wash my bed sheets at least twice a night.🙄

nomas · 28/04/2025 23:12

Can’t believe OP plopped a thread to tell
people to shower in the evenings and then disappeared.

Pricelessadvice · 28/04/2025 23:14

I always shower before bed. I feel grubby if I go to bed without showering.

Tbh I started out like you but now also shower mid way through the night. The feeling of getting back into bed thoroughly clean midway through the night is SO NICE.
I'm now horrified that I previously slept through the night gradually becoming more and more soiled with the gathering night's grime- Yuck!

3am showers would highly recommend 10/10
(I 💯 judge people who don't )

I hope you also change bed clothes at 3am! Imagine getting into 6-hr soiled sheets after your shower.

Utterlyincandescently · 28/04/2025 09:57

Unfortunately not true for everyone. I see people say this on the internet all the time so I went 6 months only washing my hair twice a week to try and "train" my hair. Didn't work and instead I just spent half a year with shit, greasy hair.

^^This.

nyancatdays · 28/04/2025 23:58

God I’d love to have a shower before bed. But if I did, I’d get into bed and the cat would come in and cosy up to me with all the grot she’s got on her from rolling around in dust under the bed and goodness knows what else!

Blondiney · 29/04/2025 00:14

Do you work down the mines, OP?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 29/04/2025 00:18

If you like an evening shower have one

However if you live an average life you are not covered in grime at the end of the day.

Funny thing is.. when I get into bed I don’t feel like I’m covered in grime 🥴

monktasmic · 29/04/2025 00:21

I vary ! Had a lazy morning yesterday so had a shower and washed my hair at lunch. Today I had a gym class so had a shower / hair wash when I got back. I’m at a 7am gym class tomorrow and will shower when I get back, I’m in london for the day working tomorrow so I’ll have to have a shower before bed as london makes me feel grimy (I work there frequently and still feel grim at the end of the day).
I am at a dinner in Liverpool on Wednesday night so I’ll shower and do my hair for that - and again the next morning (probably to wake me up).
I’m peri, WFH mainly - and sometimes just can’t be arsed to have a shower immediately I wake, if I have early calls online I’ll do them ‘unclean’ and then shower after gym or a run or in the evening before I go out or settle down for the night- I never go more than 36 hours without a hair wash and a shower though. London is twice a day tho’ cos it’s grimy.

Waitingfordoggo · 29/04/2025 00:35

I shower in the evenings- love getting into bed clean, especially when the bedding is fresh on too. I don’t normally shower in the mornings as daytimes I’m often either doing housework, admin, dog walking, meal prep etc or I’m teaching fitness classes. Will often have a shower at around lunchtime too when I’ve got morning and evening classes. I do worry about the environmental impact but I keep my showers pretty short- 5 minutes does the job. I only need to wash my hair once a week as it is so very dry and coarse, so have a longer shower once a week. Washing my hair more often just makes it bushy and crispy. 😂 (And no, I don’t get particularly sweaty in most of my classes, and my hair doesn’t smell).

ilikemethewayiam · 29/04/2025 00:37

I’ve always done this. I love a shower before bed!

Cornflour as dry shampoo? Just literally buy dry shampoo (or wash your hair) you can’t just lob baking ingredients in and hope for the best!
