Botox - would you?

I really want to go for it but I'm worried I'll end up looking cross eyed or I'll have an allergic reaction or something awful. I'd only go to a registered nurse and I only want something subtle due to the lines under my eyes. No lines on forehead. Would probably top up once or twice per year.

Has anyone reading this had botox and do you regret it? I'm 40.

I’m holding off but planning to from about 45 (currently 43). My friends who like naturally stunning in their early 50s all have it (I had no idea until they told me).

MollyRover · 25/04/2025 16:33

Started at 38, 40 now and no regrets!!

Atarin · 25/04/2025 16:34

I don’t think they can do under the eyes? They can do the sides, but it won’t make a difference to under the eyes. Allergies are unlikely, it does look a bit odd after 2wks, but it doesn’t last long before it evens out and relaxes a bit. If you do have an adverse reaction, it’s not permanent, it will wear off in a few months.

Had it for a decade - love it. I'm not sure it's what you need though if you want something done under your eyes? Why don't you go along and explain what you want and then look at options?

Runlikesomeoneleftgateopen · 25/04/2025 16:35

I wouldn't because I''m 56 and happy with way l look. It's about how you feel inwardly rather than how you look. Botox wouldn't make me any happier, l give myself permission to grow older, it's a blessing, not a curse.

OldieButBaddie · 25/04/2025 16:36

Not for me. I don't fancy having botulism injected into myself and ending up when I'm 70 looking like Jocelyn Wildebeest or whatever her name is

IReallyLoveItHere · 25/04/2025 16:37

I personally would not for animal cruelty reasons (they have to find out the fatal dose on every single batch because its a medicine not a cosmetic).

Friends who have had it had varying results, but the dodgy ones got better. I think go to a good practitioner and you'll be fine.

If you plan a full face lift in future it's supposed to be a bad idea to do anything because it causes changes that can't ve smoothed over, but I doubt many will get a face lift.

VirgosNeedGoals · 25/04/2025 17:52

What can they do for under eye lines if not botox?

@IReallyLoveItHere Alluzience is not tested on animals.

Tablechairandpinecones · 25/04/2025 18:12

I’ve been having “baby” Botox for about 3 years. I’m 46 and no regrets. My forehead still moves, I’m not frozen, it just makes me look a little bit smoother and less tired! It definitely doesn’t go under the eyes though.
That would probably be tear trough filler, but I’ve never had that……

Lascivious · 25/04/2025 18:14

Yes. Botox is fabulous for lines and freshening you up. They can’t do it directly under the eyes, but it’s fantastic for crow’s feet.

Edited to add - I bought a NIRA laser about 5 months ago and actually cancelled my once yearly Botox appointment as I don’t (yet) need it. I’ve been really impressed with my results.

namechanged221 · 25/04/2025 18:17

Be aware that you may get a bad headache afterwards
I had a headache for 3 days
I don't want to get it again because if that, though the effects were good and lasted well...

Giddykiddy · 25/04/2025 18:26

I've been having it since my early 50s - I'm 60 now and still look pretty fresh - I get it done by an excellent medical practice twice a year - they do it so well - no element of the frozen dome head

InfoSecInTheCity · 25/04/2025 18:29

I got it done a few months ago and really happy with it, I’ve lost a lot of weight recently and for the first time since I was in primary school I’m not obese. I was getting the 11 lines from frowning at work too much and want to have a few years where I am neither fat nor wrinkly.

RipleyJones · 25/04/2025 18:29

Yes why not, if it is affordable. It’s medically safe and effects are excellent. Been having it for years. It’s as routine as having a facial for many people, these days.prefer to have it done by a qualified medic (usually docs moonlighting from their NHS role). Not by the beautician on the corner.

GuestSpeakers · 25/04/2025 18:35

If I had the money spare I’d get my 11s done. I wouldn’t do my eyes but that’s because I have heavy eyelids and worry it would be worse!

Yellowdresses · 25/04/2025 18:40

I wouldn't get it - you might look 'fresher' at first but after a couple of years of top ups you look like someone with Botox. My SIL has been getting it for years, fillers too, and now looks like a woman with work done, could be aged anything from 40 to 60 - she's 50.

She gets hers done by a plastic surgeon - if you're going to get it done, I'd go for that rather than a nurse, as the nurse won't have the indept knowledge of the muscles in the face that a plastic surgeon would have.

Just looking your age is a reasonal option I think.

Is that right about a face lift? I was told by a top plastic surgeon (incidental, not a consultation) that a face lift is really the best thing if someone is going to do anything invasive. I didn’t know Botox could interfere with that. I am 44 and have not yet tried Botox but am tempted. I find the idea of a facelift terrifying but interested to know the options at least!

LeaveALittleNote · 25/04/2025 18:41

I haven’t tried it yet, but when money isn’t so tight I’d be interested to give it a go. For me it’s not about looking younger (that ship has sailed), but about looking less tired and stressed.

about looking less tired and stressed.

It does exactly this 😊

I would say that's the filler, not botox.

Would never touch filler.. awful stuff

Tiddlywinkly · 25/04/2025 18:47

I've been getting Botox twice a year since 35. I'm 41 now. I love it. Done well, it works better on wrinkles than any cream you can buy.

Filler is a different story. I would worry about the gradual accumulation as we now know it doesn't really go. Shame, as my temples are so hollow.

foodtoorder · 25/04/2025 18:51

I do it 2-3 times per year, with registered nurse. Never had anything go wrong, no infection and minimal bruising.
It's a commitment to maintain it but I feel it's cost effective for me personally.

Espresso25 · 25/04/2025 18:52

I started at 33 and have it every 3 months in all 3 areas. I love it.
