Botox - would you?

I really want to go for it but I'm worried I'll end up looking cross eyed or I'll have an allergic reaction or something awful. I'd only go to a registered nurse and I only want something subtle due to the lines under my eyes. No lines on forehead. Would probably top up once or twice per year.

Has anyone reading this had botox and do you regret it? I'm 40.

I do it 2-3 times per year, with registered nurse. Never had anything go wrong, no infection and minimal bruising.
It's a commitment to maintain it but I feel it's cost effective for me personally.

Yes and to be fair you can just stop with no ill effects. You’re not tied in.

pleasepleasepleasedontmakemedothefolding · 25/04/2025 18:53

I'm 40 (almost) and i'm considering it. What i've heard is that when it wears off, you just look how you did before, so it doens't really "de-age" unless you actively have it. Also you can't get it when pregnant. I've tried the frownies patches and they work temporarily. Honestly, staying hydrated and healthy is probably the safest fix, but i'll likely give botox a go as i'm ageing and would like it to be less noticeable. Feel like grey hairs and wrinkles are suddenly a thing.

OverpricedCupcake · 25/04/2025 18:54

No, I'm 47 and look every single year of it, yet I'm more comfortable in my body than I ever have been.

Would never touch filler.. awful stuff

Yes it just makes people look swollen with tiny eyes, and all have the same look.
Botox is great as just relaxes the muscles and doesn’t change your face. It’s not about looking younger, just less tired/grumpy

Yes can confirm you just go back to as it was before. Which can be a bit shocking as feels like sudden aging 🤣

I’m 35 and honestly would but sadly since the having the covid jabs I’m allergic to everything and won’t put stuff In my face that k don’t know. Too worried of the side effects.

cressidahun · 25/04/2025 19:00

I’ve had it twice a year since I was 30 and would highly recommend it but given you don’t seem to have a real understanding of it (thinking it can make you cross eyed) then I’d suggest you have a proper consultation to understand the risks and whether it will actually help your areas of concern

onwardsup4 · 25/04/2025 19:02

I’ve had it for about 7 years 42 now . I love it for how relaxed my face feels and forehead looks. 11s much reduced and look less angry! Don’t really have crows feet but the ones I have I don’t find Botox helps too much and wears off quickly

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/04/2025 19:05

Choose a good clinic do not go to a beautician/hairdresser dentist.
A good clinician will have the skills to make it look as natural as you want.Ive been having it on and of for 10 yrs and never looked shocked, droopy or weird.Good luck./

FleaBeeBob · 25/04/2025 20:00

Show me where to go and I’ll show my money

fedup1212 · 25/04/2025 20:02

I have recently just had my first bout at 34! I was very liney though. 😆

I will say though if you have hooded eyes there is a chance of it causing brow drop.

It happened to me and is apparently common in those with hooded eyes? I look awful in my new passport pic because of it!

NotSafeInTaxis · 25/04/2025 20:12

Until recently I would have said absolutely not, but the reflection in the mirror seems to be a little less adamant!
I'm allergic to a lot of things though so I'm nervous. And not really wealthy enough to start this sort of thing....

Aren’t dentists supposed to be well qualified to give Botox? I would have thought they’d be at least as safe if not better than a nurse.

Ooh that’s interesting. I fancy forehead botox but have small hooded eyes. I’m worried they’d look like pinheads!
Did the drooping wear off? Was it worth it overall?

Yes dentists are the best, they spend 7 years learning face muscles

I have big eyes and noticed they weren’t as big, purely because my forehead was ironed out so it was bigger and pushed downwards slightly. When I open my eyes wide my forehead crinkles, with botox I can’t do that. So its a toss up between wanting my big eyes but crinkles or slightly more closed eyes and smoothness.
There are options though, they can not put as much as the ends of your eyebrows so you can still raise them slightly

Flomingho · 25/04/2025 20:22

I always said it would be something I wouldn't do. However, now 46 and I am seriously tempted. I must admit I do worry about it going wrong or looking obvìous that I have had it done.

It has worn off mostly, though slightly still noticeable to me!

I honestly don’t know! On one hand I love that my makeup doesn’t sit in my forehead lines anymore but my SIL asked what was up with my eye the other day so maybe not 😫

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/04/2025 20:25

36 and done it for the first time this year.
absolutely love it!

you can get under your eyes done, it's called jelly roll

limebasilandmentalhealth · 25/04/2025 20:49

Started at 36, a year ago. I call it the “Teams effect” I spend a lot of time on teams calls for work and therefore more time seeing my own face than ever and noticing how tired I look!

I love Botox, feel like I look less tired and more like “me”.

for what it’s worth, I had lip fillers years ago in my late 20s… and I’d never do that again.

I personally would not for animal cruelty reasons (they have to find out the fatal dose on every single batch because its a medicine not a cosmetic).

Friends who have had it had varying results, but the dodgy ones got better. I think go to a good practitioner and you'll be fine.

If you plan a full face lift in future it's supposed to be a bad idea to do anything because it causes changes that can't ve smoothed over, but I doubt many will get a face lift.

That first paragraph is incorrect. Yes, a fatal dose does needed to be determined as part of the development of new medicines, and where that is necessary, animal testing is required in order to gain a marketing authorisation (MA) - i.e. a licence to sell the product. Once an MA has been granted, no further animal testing is required, and also not for MAs for generic versions (copies) of the medicine. Testing is required for batch release but that will be on the pharmaceutical quality of the batches, so chemistry type tests, basically.

Chypre · 25/04/2025 20:53

Go to a skin clinic and have a chat! If your main concern is lines under the eyes, you might need something like Profhilo (moisture + volume) and not Botox (stops muscles from moving and skin from creasing).

ByWiseAquaFinch · 25/04/2025 20:55

You don't get botox for the under eye area, just crows feet. You can get skin boosters or filler though. I've never had any under eye treatments but have been getting botox and fillers for years. Botox 2-3 times a year and filler sparingly. I am very conservative with this stuff.

You don't have to be frozen and you don't need to look puffy faced with filler. I get the bare minimum and it works for me. I was getting 'baby botox' before it was a thing. Injectors always thought I was a bit mad. Back in the day if you didn't want a forehead like an Imax screen you were an outlier 😂

I get my forehead and a small amount on my crows feet. I've filled the nose to mouth crease a few times and a small amount to help disguise jowls. I've made peace with a certain amount of aging. Looking the best I can for my age is more realistic than chasing my 25 year old face.

Why not go for a consultation to a couple of places. Ask their opinion and for them to explain the treatments and how they work.

Ask them to use a bit less on the sides of your forehead. If I get the same amount everywhere that happens to me as well. Doesn't happen now since I figured this out 😁

BoIIocks · 25/04/2025 20:59

Love Botox.

I’m aging very gracefully- just without those awful scowl lines between my eyebrows.
