Botox - would you?

I really want to go for it but I'm worried I'll end up looking cross eyed or I'll have an allergic reaction or something awful. I'd only go to a registered nurse and I only want something subtle due to the lines under my eyes. No lines on forehead. Would probably top up once or twice per year.

Has anyone reading this had botox and do you regret it? I'm 40.

@SansaStark90 - you could be right. I’m definitely suss about fillers

Be aware that you may get a bad headache afterwards
I had a headache for 3 days
I don't want to get it again because if that, though the effects were good and lasted well...

Headache is just the first time though.

Me too. Filler stays in your body and doesn’t break down. Whatever they want to tell you. It does. But if you were excited for Botox. Get it. Go to a good doctor and you’ll be fine. Complication rates are extremely low for it in the right hands. It’s the one injectable that’s more “safe.” And these Polyneucleotides. Just a money spinner as the market is saturated. I’ve had four session of a good brand. Did nothing. And I’m yet to see any true before and after pictures that aren’t in different lighting etc. all just bullshit tbh.

No, don’t think I need it. Opinions may vary 😆

Cynic17 · 27/04/2025 13:48

Nobody "needs" Botox.

We all age. It's normal. What's wrong with that? And as we get older, don't we understand that how we look is the least important thing about any of us?

Not to mention that it just makes people look like they've had "work", so doesn't even achieve the desired result!
Just enjoy your wrinkles, OP!

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/04/2025 13:59

That’s what I meant, @Cynic17 .

I am what I am, a 60 year old woman and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Chocaholic1216 · 27/04/2025 14:08

how much do you all pay for Botox roughly if getting it around 3 times per year?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/04/2025 15:27

Go for consultation and choose dentist over nurse

It's usually about 195 for one area but I'm sure there's people paying less .

Catherinethenotsogreat2 · 27/04/2025 16:13

I have Botox, but only started when I hit 50. I am 53 now. I only have it very lightly, so I still have lines. It would look strange at my age to have no wrinkles. My neck tells my age anyway. I do think a little Botox make me look a bit fresher, but it doesn’t make me look 35 or anything.

workshy46 · 27/04/2025 16:22

I don’t do it but I don’t really have forehead lines or not bad ones currently - nearly 50. The issue I see is when people are post 50 their lower face generally sags a bit and then you have two different faces - smooth forehead and a loose jawline .. it doesn’t look great. I think the people who do it will get v little and it’s subtle so they have movement and some small bit deep lines so it’s more natural. I think it’s also filler not Botox you are advised not to get it you plan a facelift and apparently that’s what 99% of Hollywood stars get now starting in their 40’s and sometimes earlier

Nobody ‘needs’ anything - whether that’s bubble bath or nail varnish or even a haircut. But people want to. Botox doesn’t stop anyone ‘ageing’ - I’m getting old at the same rate as anyone else, I’m just happier doing it whilst not having wrinkles! Same as I don’t enjoy my grey hair so I have it coloured! And the way I look and present are actually very important to me, hence why I don’t hessian sacks for clothes!

exactly.. My forehead 11s were making me look permanently pissed off, grumpy and unapproachable which isn’t me at all. My face wasn’t me anymore. Botox sorted that!

I emphasise with your face not being your anymore, and Botox restoring you back to your own self. The last year my neck is not mine anymore either sadly 😅and I am too scared to do anything invasive like a facelift so I will have to get used to that.

Catherinethenotsogreat2 · 27/04/2025 18:29

I do think I see a bit of a trend away from Botox at least in tene U.K. I see more actresses who don’t have Botox after 50 and I do applaud that too.

curiousasacat · 27/04/2025 18:31

I've been getting it every 4 months or so for a decade. I love it- it just makes me look fresher and younger. People are being stupid in this thread if they think it "builds up" over time time- it doesnt, which is exactly why you have to keep doing it as it wears off 😂I wish it did build up over time, wouldnt be so damn expensive!

DappledThings · 27/04/2025 18:31

Not in a million years. The idea is incomprehensibly weird to me.

Energe · 27/04/2025 18:35

I love it. £220 every 4 months and I look so much more awake

Same.. Hopefully non surgical options will become cheaper!

Motherknowsrest · 27/04/2025 18:42

I would love to have it on my forehead, I'm so scowly and tired.

Lucky me already had it in my bottom for anal fissures.......

Yes, I think people are confusing Botox with fillers. Botox is just a muscle relaxant, it wears off, it’s been used in the NHS for decades. My mum was given it for migraines. I think it can also be used for excess sweating.

Exactly, as I said previously, I pay to have it in my face for aesthetic reasons but I get in my jaw and temples at the hospital through the NHS for extreme jaw clenching/grinding. Just that alone has improved my life immeasurably.

Yep- its also been used since the 1980s for people with limb spasticity so it has a well tested safety profile

winterdarkness · 27/04/2025 19:09

I started at 36. I’m 54 now. Providing you go to a good professional and they do a subtle treatment, I can’t see why not

Mine is £190 for two areas from an NHS GP who does it as a side hustle. Saw an advert at the dentist the other day for them to do 3 areas for £200 but I’m happy with where I get it done so won’t be changing.
