Anyone worked for someone famous?

FishOnTheTrain · 24/04/2025 01:53

I’m working in a company for an influencer/z list celeb. She’s well known in a certain group of people and hangs around with some pretty famous faces. She has her own fashion company.

I don’t report into her, but work closely with her and she is an utter bitch. The way she comes across on social media is so…different. Her intern films her for content daily and she puts on such a smiley show. When the camera is off, she’s rude, demanding, bitches about everyone in the team, including members of the team that go above and beyond to make her business a success and make her happy…I could go on.

she contradicts herself constantly, making me feel like I’m going mad. I know if I died tmrw she wouldn’t care. She cares only about herself and her success. She’s not even nice about her husband, who is such a lovely guy.

I want to get out this company asap. It’s just difficult to know where to go and what to do next so in the meantime…has anyone else experienced similar?

I have lost all respect for this woman. She is awful and everyone that works for her knows it.

I’m 38 and worked in many jobs and industries - though I still don’t think I’m qualified to apply my experience to everyone. However, in my experience, I’ve had rubbish female managers and I’ve had amazing female managers, I’ve had rubbish male managers, I’ve had great male managers. This leads me to think it’s a person thing, not a gender thing. And the sooner women stop feeding this narrative of women being awful to each other, the better off we will all be for it ❤️

We are not feeding any narrative.

We are replying to the OPs post, where she speaks about her female boss being horrible to her.

You do remember that she wrote that yes.?

And other people are then sharing similiar experiences

I lived with someone who worked for Madonna as a nanny/assistant. She said Madonna was AWFUL to work for, incredibly demanding, not nice to staff. She did get a lot of free things though. She tried to gain Madonna’s respect by questioning why things were done and show that she was a strong independent assistant. She got fired. I still have an ikea dresser Madonna paid for from when we all moved out 😂.

Yes it’s a fun thread about having worked for famous people - male or female - not a discussion about female bosses in general.

HTH

How is it a "fun thread"

When the OP is very upset and has described her female boss in her first post as an "utter bitch" .

She says that she hates working there and that she wants to desperately get out of the company.

Yes people can come on with their anecdotes about working for celebrities.

But it is also extremely relevant to talk about bullying female bosses. As that is what the OP was talking about

Yes, that's the one. Absolute tosser.

I've read a lot of things about Madonna. Apparently she's not nice to anyone.

In a book written about madonna, one woman described madonna as someone that uses people and then throws them away.

But who is nice?

I think that most women I've met with and worked with are not nice. Most of them are competitive, selfish and nasty to other women. Especially to younger women.

It just seems to be how women are.

Maybe you’re the common denominator? lol. Because most of the women I’ve met in life have been lovely

AnneElliotsBestFriend · 24/04/2025 21:44

I met Sting when I was taking a school trip around Shakespeare’s Globe where he was doing a sound check for a gig. When he heard we were from the North East he asked us if we would like to stay and listen and he would take requests so we got a free concert. He even sent autographs of other people in the gig to school. He was fab.

Can we stop this back and forth please? It’s derailing the thread. Very tedious.

"Common denominator". What a sneering bullying remark. It's an attempt to victim blame

First of all, the bullying and nastiness that I witnessed at workplaces, wasn't aimed at me.

I've seen other women in my workplaces be bullied , ostracised and abused by gangs of women at work.

So If I watched it happen to other woman, how am I the common denominator?

Kellybonita · 24/04/2025 21:47

The OP's boss isn't lovely though, is she?

The OP said, that her female boss is making her life utter hell.

So I hope you are able to deduce from that, that some women are extremely nasty to other women in workplaces.

PP you were not responding directly to the OP, come on. The OP explained she worked for a female celebrity/influencer who was awful. That was the post, the OP did not make any claim this person was awful because they were a woman. In fact they infer that they are awful because they are a z list celeb with an inflated ego. As further evidence can I please draw your attention to the title of the OPs post “anyone worked with someone famous?” (The clue to this may be that the majority of replies talk about their experiences of working with celebrities). In response to that question please let me quote some of your words back to you:

”I've seen groups of women gang up on , amd bully some woman in every job I've been in.”

“The female managers have always been worse than the men.”

“The bad side of women is that women can be emotionally destructive.”

”You never see men isolate and bully a man in the workplace I've seen women do it so so so many times.”

Sorry, what celebrity were you talking about in response to the OPs post? Because the way you were writing it came across that you responded bashing the women you’ve worked with and then applying your experience to all women workers.

Also on MN you can respond to in comments.

Christmasmorale · 24/04/2025 21:53

Used to work with a TV personality/ influencer that comes across as ditzy/dim but lovely on TV. They were just as lovely in real life but actually incredibly sharp, clever and business savvy. The smartest client I’ve worked with. Was really shocked at the time.

Yes and many other posters also said the same thing that I said.

Go back and read.

There are many posts from different posters on this thread, talking about their horrible female bosses. It's an important thing ti talk about. And we were having a good discussion

So I'm not sure why you're just targeting me?

The thread title is literally

“Anyone worked for someone famous?”

not “let's be a bunch of sexist misogynist twats”

No one agrees with you and you're derailing and spoiling the thread.

Lol what a diva!

"No one agrees with you". That's rubbish.

Many women on this thread have agreed with me.

Are you able to read? All of their posts are still there.

2021x · 24/04/2025 21:56

I tend to find the terrible managers are just people who are either good at the job, which makes them think they are good at everything, or bad at the job so the company made them the manager. There is no difference in the sex/gender of these people.

I also tend to find that women who “hate working with women” are the women that tend to be the problem.

The OP said that she hates working with her female boss.

Because her boss is reallg horrible to her.

So is the OP the problem in that instance?

That's what you've written.

You’ve literally called all women horrible bitches, said that women aren’t nice to one another. If you’re treating women like they’re your natural enemy and branding them all bitches maybe it’s a you problem

They're both wonderful actors :)

Have you seen the film 'Still Life'? Eddie M was brilliant in that. It's a quiet film that had a big impact on me and I'll never forget the ending.

GoldBeautifulHeart · 24/04/2025 22:02

Kellybonita · 24/04/2025 12:04

But that's always always the experience.

The male is nicer to the woman obviously because there is sometimes a small sexual attraction between a man and woman. Or if there is no sexual attraction, he doesn't see the woman as someone to be jealous of.

The woman is not nice to the woman because there is no sexual attraction (usually) between woman and woman. The woman instead often sees the other woman as a competitor. And so she is often jealous and nasty to her

Do you hate women or something? Very strange generalisation there.
