Anyone worked for someone famous?

I’m working in a company for an influencer/z list celeb. She’s well known in a certain group of people and hangs around with some pretty famous faces. She has her own fashion company.

I don’t report into her, but work closely with her and she is an utter bitch. The way she comes across on social media is so…different. Her intern films her for content daily and she puts on such a smiley show. When the camera is off, she’s rude, demanding, bitches about everyone in the team, including members of the team that go above and beyond to make her business a success and make her happy…I could go on.

she contradicts herself constantly, making me feel like I’m going mad. I know if I died tmrw she wouldn’t care. She cares only about herself and her success. She’s not even nice about her husband, who is such a lovely guy.

I want to get out this company asap. It’s just difficult to know where to go and what to do next so in the meantime…has anyone else experienced similar?

I have lost all respect for this woman. She is awful and everyone that works for her knows it.

That has been my unfortunate experience of female managers. Call me sexist but 9 times out of 10 I’d take the male manager.

@BunnyLake @Kellybonita This has been my experience too! I've encountered one or two female bosses and it's like they think they need to be a bitch to make the point of who's boss. Totally unnecessary and makes for an unpleasant work environment!

Why am I not surprised.
I paid good money to see Van Morrison in concert in Dublin and he didn’t interact with the audience once.

Now Bruce Springsteen on the other hand - at a concert in Ireland last year and his first song was a tribute to Sinéad O’ Connor. How lovely was that ❤️

I saw Van Morrison in concert too and he struck me as someone who was clocking on to do a really boring shift in a job that he detested. Springsteen on the other hand was wonderful, so present and engaged with the audience, one of the best gigs I have been to.

I had a quite unpleasant experience with Jonathon Morris, Adrian Boswell the poet in the sitcom Bread. This was in a quite secluded district on the South Coast, which tends to attract celebrity residents. I'd walked a few miles along the coast, arrived at the local beach, entered the beach café, ordered a coffee, sat down at a table to drink it, as I had every legitimate right to do. I then spotted Jonathon with a guitar, talking to another couple: he caught my look of recognition, instantly swung round, thrust his face at me and snarled, "Do you want to pay now or later?" Then took himself, guitar and the couple off to a corner, well clear of any riff-raff elsewhere in the café. I finished my drink and exited past them without a word, but I wish now that I'd called him out on his aggression, and that I didn't give a solitary damn in any case about him or his comedy programme.

I know someone who worked for Geri Halliwell / Horner and they.... were not complimentary. The diva / rudeness / demands & aggression meant they took 6 months off of work after leaving that job.

I suppose Geri may have had a lot on her mind given her DH's horrible behaviour. Still, it's no excuse to be mean.

I've NC'd for this. And yes, it was a long time ago. I worked with (not for) David Attenborough. It was when 'Wildlife on One' was being put together. Which was his earliest foray into the natural world. I used to organise the scripts for his voice overs. And turn the pages as he narrated, and just generally ran around looking after him. We are talking late 70s here. And yes, he was lovely, a real gent!

I'm very glad to hear this but it wasn't his first foray into the natural world. He made Zoo Quest in the 1950s, going off to remote parts of the world which nowadays have often been dug up and turned into palm oil plantations.

I did the VAT return for Eric Stewart of 10CC once. For some reason I had to go to his house. He and his wife were really lovely. His wife made us salmon sandwiches, which was extremely kind.

I used to know a very successful actor from the world of musical theatre. He lived near us and had a big dispute with a local school, which I got drawn into. All I can say is I think at the time he was channelling his most famous role in his dogged pursuit of those he perceived as wrongdoers. He was really not a pleasant person to deal with, which seems to be at odds with his public reputation. Fortunately he's gone back to the other side of the world now.

2 out of the millions of female managers in the world is hardly a trend.

I haven’t worked for millions of managers, male or female. I can only go on my own personal experience, yes? I don’t remember typing the word ‘trend’ 🤔

LaserCatToyLunacy · 24/04/2025 21:02

I did some admin stuff for an 80s singer. She is lovely, friendly, and very funny!

loulouljh · 24/04/2025 21:14

Sat next to Peter Crouch once at a competition his kids and mine were at. I had literally no idea who he was. He was very sweet and apologised for the numerous kids coming up and asking for autographs.

Denimwondersuit · 24/04/2025 21:15

worked with Elton John at one point, nice guy. Met some neighbours when I went over to his house, Ed Sheeran at the time had a house on the same street, saw loads of celebs in the area too (Posh and Becks, Simon Cowell etc.). Life is much more mundane now, hahaha.

wildfellhall · 24/04/2025 21:15

A friend of mine is a massage therapist and she went to a huge country house to treat a bloke who had been in a famous band and he completely assumed it was a massage ‘with benefits’; she was very surprised and had no trouble clarifying that her professional treatment did not include sexual services. What a jerk. He accepted it without protest at least.

The Phantom??

A friend spent two days working with Taylor Swift in NYC and she was charming, professional, great company, very intelligent and gracious. She did a very sweet autograph for his daughter. He said she was even more gorgeous in person.

Aliflowers · 24/04/2025 21:20

BIL has met a few famous people through work. He’s a tradie with a business and has worked for both Bono and Hozier and said they were both complete gentlemen

Have a aquaintance whose sister is very friendly with Victoria Beckhams sister Louise. Their children are in school together. She’s been in the beckhams company a number of times. She’s said David is utterly down to earth and good craic. Victoria is very reserved. She said really lovely but just very quiet and can confirm she eats nothing

@surreygirlzz I was most impressed when I read that Brian Mary completed his Doctorate in Astrophysics (I think) in around 2005.

I used to work in the media so came across quite a few well known people over the years.
The sweetest were Michelle Collins, Boy George, Tony Benn, Debbie Harry, Susan Sarandon.
David Starkey was a total sweetheart although you wouldn’t necessarily expect him to be.
I met a piano tuner who tuned PaulMcCartney’s pianos who said Linda was the kindest and most down to earth person and Paul was very welcoming and friendly.
A friend worked closely with Stephen Fry on a shoot and said no one else was allowed to be funny and the atmosphere was very much about the star’s favourites.

David Walliams can be, I’ve heard, nasty if you’re not important.
Nigella Lawson was a sweetie.
I do have sympathy with very well known people as they lose all privacy and have to deal with constant assumptions and presumptions. It takes a lot of maturity, generosity and patience to handle that well , I Imagine.
its like the quote (maybe from Bill Murray?) that if you could choose to be rich and not famous - that’s the ideal.

It must have been wonderful to meet TonyBenn.

Relaxaholic · 24/04/2025 21:21

I was a film extra once. The late Paul Walker was so lovely and gorgeous. I was a more than a bit smitten. Clare Danes was really nice.

2021x · 24/04/2025 21:25

I worked at a very exclusive gym and there were a few famous people, but the only one I can remember was Rupert Everett. Looked down on everyone, a real proper twat. If we were at reception we used to try and leave before he came in.

The dude that played Javert. I think he is Aussie

Could the “women are bitches” posters please just bog off and take their hate and misogyny elsewhere?

This is an otherwise fun thread about famous people.

It's not a fun thread about famous people.

The OPs very first post talks about her female (z list) celeb boss being an utter bitch to her.

Thats why other women came on and spoke about their own awful female bosses.

Someone always pops on a thread to say that, whenever anyone dares to mention that women can be cruel.

I'm 40 . I've worked in many different jobs. In many different places.

The women have been the same in every job. I've seen groups of women gang up on , amd bully some woman in every job I've been in.

The female managers have always been worse than the men.

In my opinion, the bad side of men is they can be physically and sexually destructive.

The bad side of women is that women can be emotionally destructive. You never see men isolate and bully a man in the workplace I've seen women do it so so so many times.

I’m 38 and worked in many jobs and industries - though I still don’t think I’m qualified to apply my experience to everyone. However, in my experience, I’ve had rubbish female managers and I’ve had amazing female managers, I’ve had rubbish male managers, I’ve had great male managers. This leads me to think it’s a person thing, not a gender thing. And the sooner women stop feeding this narrative of women being awful to each other, the better off we will all be for it ❤️

I’m a self employed dog groomer and I groom a famous footballers dog. I don’t follow football so I had no clue who he was until others started messaging me freaking out 😂 he’s just a regular fella with a lovely dog so that’s all that matters to me. I think he probably likes that I don’t care that he’s ‘known’ even though I didn’t know him 😂

I was in the same boat but with his and wife's horse.
His wife came to the yard at least 2 or 3 times a week and groomed , mucked out , turned out , brought in her horse with no fuss whatsoever.
When he came about once a week he would do the same.
Both were always really friendly and relaxed.
It was months before I realised who he was .

FromWalesAndBackAgain · 24/04/2025 21:37

@Kellybonita and if you have never seen a man bully another man, you have clearly not worked in a factory. I once did and working in HR had to deal with many many of these cases; belittling, ostracising; calling names; discriminating - you name a bullying behaviour and I dealt with a grievance case and the workforce was 87% male

Yes it’s a fun thread about having worked for famous people - male or female - not a discussion about female bosses in general.
