Are there any old school Mumsnetter’s still around

I am back on Mumsnet potentially briefly I was on here a lot from around 2009 to maybe 2012 when my children were small and i was deep in sleepless nights etc etc all seems a distant memory now mine are teens. I’ve flitted in and out very briefly over the years. But really I remember when this was all fields 😂.

Are there any long term posters still going? I had an accident so my memory isn’t that great but so far on my brief travels I am yet to see any familiar names on any threads.

id update you all on my car crash life but I seriously doubt anyone remembers me its been that long

@Ohyoudodoyouits so helpful isn’t it I wish I had thought of posting on here when i was really struggling.

However I would probably have been ripped apart, some of the things I did out of anger and temper in the early days were bad. (Frontal lobe brain injury). But equally I have improved lots and don’t actually regret most of it. Ex on New Years Eve, buggered off home with a friend of mine, I was still very early on in recovery. (I was in hospital till September) He came home 8 am New Year’s Day started to unfold sofa bed to go to sleep when i asked where he had been he oh so nonchalantly shrugged and said friends name when I asked what happened I got the same IDGAF reply of “kissing and stuff” unfortunately for him as he said this he was getting under the cover, I didn’t expect it to happen as it did but I just lifted end of sofa bed but with him on it so it actually folded him up and tucked him into the sofa, like I said I didn’t really think it through but equally am not a violent person at all but, I still think he deserved his folding up 😂. Horrible little aggressively average empty rucksack of a man. Like I said we weren’t together as such, he had agreed to stay till after Christmas but it was his complete nonchalance at my very obvious hurt. I took an overdose that day though fortunately just Diazepam which apparently you have to take a million of or thereabouts for it to kill you so I just ended up having a lovely sleep.

that sounds so bad for you, it's horrible that you felt that low, but...how funny that you folded the little fella up in the bed, the image of that did make me laugh!
Again, as you know, you will survive all this and this too will pass, coz mums netters have been telling us for years the bad times will pass and they are usually right!

OMG, I am howling at the visual picture of you folding him up in the sofa. I was in a Teams meeting at work reading this and had to turn my camera off quick as I started laughing!

Obviously sorry about the relationship breakdown.

In fact I may have a funny screenshot from that day, I will look 😂

I can't remember when I joined, but I was originally on here I think with a user name containing 'Madmog'

RampantIvy - where you on a thread following our children through A levels and through uni? Can't remember what username I had then, but DD ended up in Edinburgh.

@Ohyoudodoyouhonestly am

Did he manage to get himself out the sofa or did you have to unfold it? I'd have been tempted to leave him in it.

D0g · 23/04/2025 10:24

@CamillaMacauley he birthed his horrid little self from the depths of sofa bed red faced and twitchy definitely knocked the nonchalance IDGAF act right on the head he was a bit red faced and huffy 😂.

Oh, oh I'm trapped
Like a fool I'm in a cage
I can't get out
You see I'm trapped
Can't you see I'm so confused?
I can't get out

@Energe Gordon Brown didn’t refuse to answer the question. To ensure that the webchat ran smoothly/quickly, there was someone from MNHQ feeding him questions, and they chose not to give him the biscuit one.

He did answer it some time later, if I recall - but it was something boring like a hobnob or shortbread!

D0g · 23/04/2025 10:35

Another equally funny now i look back moment was possibly at roughly the same time and involved a discussion about my friend which quickly escalated into me throwing lightbulbs not particularly at him but in his direction, the funny part was he had a box delivered for work so i had to unwrap each box to then lob some didn’t make a smash first time so i scurried across the floor like a rat to re throw said bulb, i must’ve opened and lobbed about 30. sounds awful but he wasn’t particularly threatened as barely looked up from his phone or even moved away from the room

I remember telling my best friend who was impressed at my dedication and laughed her self silly. Sounds awful like I say but honestly since my TBI I have struggled with temper although as my OT said at the time even without a brain injury recovery to deal with his behaviour was very triggering. Also in fairness I’ve not lost shit with anyone else like I did with him. And as much as i can giggle now it was an awful time in my life.

equally I am aware its fairly bad taste to fold someone up and fire lightbulbs at them 😳

Folding your ex up in the sofa bed is hilarious!

I’ve been here since the early 2000’s on and off and recognise a lot of the old names on here.
It seems to move so fast these days and if I comment on a post and then go away for a few hours or whatever, there’s tens and tens of replies and I feel a bit lost. It used to seem much smaller and more personal back in the day.

I have been on many 6th form and uni threads. DD sat GCSEs in 2016 and A levels in 2018 and would have gone to university in 2018 if she hadn't taken a gap year. She went in 2019 instead to Newcastle..

I found the posters on these threads incredibly helpful and supportive, with one exception, but I think most of us felt the same about her.

DD is back in education (post grad) after working for two and a half years.

CatthiefKeith was the funniest poster ever. Used to get herself into all sorts of pickles...her thread about camping in the garden made me wheeze with laughter.
I wept when she died. I never knew her but she was awesome.

slugsinthegarden · 23/04/2025 14:34

I've lurked (mostly) on and off since I was first pregnant in 2008. I REALLY miss the humour of the old days. I remember sitting with the pram I. The park crying with laughter (and getting lots of strange looks).

Recognise a lot of names on this thread!

I was really sad when she died.

I remember her when she was still with us and posting and remember hearing that she died but can't remember how she died - was she the poster who had an accident gardening?

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe she had chronic earache which led to a leukemia diagnosis, I think she died very quickly after being poorly with her ears. It was heartbreaking, we were all living it in real time.

Oo, what was mn like during covid? 👀👀

It was doom and gloom and posters shouted at for daring to drive a convertible with the roof down on an essential outing "you'll look a knob" or popping to the shop for milk "just put butter in your coffee".
I found it too anxiety-inducing so took a break.

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/04/2025 16:28

CatThiefKeith died of meningitis. Really sad and awful.

I had to as well.

All the “stay the fuck at home” and “you’ll be begging for a ventilator” if you dared to say you had popped out for a can of coke.

It was absolute insanity.

I did go a bit insane, I'll have to be honest 😳😳😄 but I didn't tell others what to do

I was judging my neighbours though and didn't dare leave the house - and I'd tune into piers Morgan every morning and fret 🙈
