Mumsnet doesn’t count. I’m talking about FB, instagram, X, Rumble, and sky blue etc

BBC News, newspaper websites. I don't get 'proper' news from social media.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 20/04/2025 12:38

I'm on tiktok but don't get news from social media

I don't get much news at all really and I'm so thankful

I get the news alerts from the BBC and the guardian if something big happens

Anoisagusaris · 20/04/2025 12:39

Do people actually rely on social media for news (as in current affairs, politics etc)? I listen to talk radio (in Ireland - we have a number of pretty good programmes), watch political coverage on TV, read news websites.

Nandortherelentles · 20/04/2025 12:39

I don’t get any news. At all. Couldn’t tell you what’s going on outside of chosing my new kitchen worktops. It’s bliss (and I never believed half of it was true anyway).

Yes they do and that's why we are where we are...

Mylegishangingoff · 20/04/2025 12:40

I'm on social media but I don't use it for news stories. Social media is for hobbies and light relief.

I have the radio on a newstalk show when cooking dinner, I work from home and have the radio on in the kitchen so gets bits whenever I go into make tea, let the dog out etc. If I hear anything that interests me I'll look deeper into it. Also the discover page on Google. Oh I'm on reddit too, I guess that's social media and catch some news stories there too.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 20/04/2025 12:40

I didn’t know anyone ever thought social media was a place to get news from.

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/04/2025 12:41

The Guardian, Times, Washington Post and Mail (the latter for shits and giggles) online papers. Reuters. Ch4 news, CNN and LBC. I really, really wouldn't rely on X, Tiktok or any other SM for news - although Bluesky has some good posts from respected reporters.

CircuitMaze · 20/04/2025 12:42

BBC News and Sky News apps plus TV occasionally. Media reporting is often biased and skewed anyway so the last place for reliable reporting is social media.

olympicsrock · 20/04/2025 12:44

I don’t use instagram , X or facebook any more. I have never heard of Rumble and I’ve heard of but never seen Skyblue.
I use BBC news on the radio and bbc news pages as well sometimes

rainbowunicorn · 20/04/2025 12:45

Social media is the last place i would go for news. If people actually rely on social media for news then it's no wonder we are in the state we are.

Yorkshiredolls · 20/04/2025 12:49

Got rid of Instagram and facebook last year, its great. Dont miss it. The only problem is friends and family often post about their family news and omit to tell me these things as they forget I’m not on SM and assume I already know. So often get surprised and feel out of the loop. It’s fine though. News from bbc and al jazeera, and mumsnet to a degree. Imagine that

letsnotIRL · 20/04/2025 12:49

I have zero social media, and I get my news over cup's of coffee with the neighbours 🤣

Pure peace 🙌🙌

If I’m checking the news it wouldn’t occur to me to look anywhere other than BBC News, Sky News, online newspapers etc.

Missey85 · 20/04/2025 13:00

I get my news from the news? 🤷

Per @Aprilweather 's comment, the fact that people do explains a good deal about the state of things.

Yip I'm the same don't go on FB (about 7years) and stopped going on Instagram a few months ago. I feel free...they suck the life and time from you.

So get my news from tv, news websites etc. If it's worth knowing ot will be these outlets.

MightyGoldBear · 20/04/2025 14:43

I don't get any news or watch the news. I occasionally hear bits through radio if I'm in the car or out in shops etc.

I stopped social media and news when covid happened. It's been lovely. I'm less anxious and I haven't really missed any big information at all.

persisted · 20/04/2025 14:46

BBC news, online newspapers.
I want some background knowledge and analysis with my news, understanding the various bias.

I would assume any 'news' I saw on social media was nonsense anyway, and couldn't care less about some randoms opinion on it.

sciaticafanatica · 20/04/2025 14:49

I’m actually shocked that someone was using social media for news

Hortus · 20/04/2025 14:50

I don't know anyone who gets their news from social media. Isn't that what total thick heads do? Isn't that why the people that do often get caught up in ridiculous ideas, conspiracy theories etc?
I get news from listening to radio 4, so news bulletins, Today and PM, listening to World Service, I watch BBC news channel, BBC news website, read The Times newspaper.

ScrambledSmegs · 20/04/2025 14:56

The radio, TV news, daily newspapers and Private Eye plus a couple of news-related podcasts.

Social media 'news' is all clickbait and it makes me depressed.

bananaramaisdabomb · 20/04/2025 14:57

I look at headlines only on line. Guardian, Telegraph, BBC. They all have bias, but I reckon a mixture will find something like truth. Perhaps…
