What have you used ChatGPT for lately?

I’ve used it to-

Do a colour analysis based on a selfie. I’m a cool winter, apparently.

Calculated my BMI, TDEE, and create a diet plan to help me lose 8kgs.

Calculate the calories I burned on a walk based on the distance, speed, and the terrain (I don’t have a smart watch).

I constantly use it to look for discount codes if I’m shopping online. So far, it’s been 100% successful for everything from clothing to car rental sites abroad.

I’ve also been playing around a bit with the new photo generation capability but haven’t found it great. I asked it to create a headshot I could use for LinkedIn and it made me look like a much older woman of a different race.

Any recommendations for thing you get it to do?

@climbelon what a fantastic use! I wish it had been around 20 years ago when I separated from my partner. He took me to court for custody as I was an unfit mother as I worked full time… and because he was long term unemployed as was his best mates wife who he ran away with - they could be better parents. Rolling eyes so hard it hurts cost me thousands in legal help whilst he got it for free. I won, he had access still. Stopped bothering with our boys within 2 years and hasn’t made any effort since.

Being able to talk to ChatGPT then could have saved me time, money and sanity.

Sorry you went through that. Well done for getting through it!

UnstableZebra · 20/04/2025 18:56

Tried it to match a pair of wide red trousers I bought, and it came up with ideas for complete outfits I hadn’t thought about matching.

PenniesButton · 20/04/2025 18:58

@ErrPods you inspired me and I uploaded a picture of my bedroom today and asked it to change it to a different style. I loved it and have contacted my decorator!

TonTonMacoute · 20/04/2025 20:09

I use it to phrase difficult messages tactfully. Condolence messages, note to a colleague whose child was very ill, that sort of thing

its good for planning trips to other places, things to see etc

^The quote was also totally made up.

i went back and told ChatGPT it was wrong and it apologised, said something about on further reflection you’re right and I made an error^

Which is code for 'I make stuff up all the time but most people don't notice or care'. Let's hope no-one ever relies on ChatGPT for anything where accuracy or facts matter.

Question for those who say they use it to organise tasks and prioritise workload, how exactly is this done? I have many many work tasks but can't see how it's possible for AI to help unless I spend so much time inputting information that I might as well have done the work myself.

What do you need to input and what is the outcome?

CassiasC · 21/04/2025 10:42

Asked it to come up with a name for a new product that would be distinctive while giving a clear steer on what the product was about. The suggestions were crap! Trite, clunky, a bit off…

I’m not an AI fan, I was surprised. Thought this would be the kind of thing it would handle with ease.

I was daunted by this too, thinking I’d have to spend so much time inputting/typing out my tasks and what I wanted to do. But then I started to use the microphone function to talk it out instead. Not the chat function where it talks back to you but just the voice recognition function. Just using natural language as if you were talking it out with yourself. I just tell it all the things I want to get done. I don’t worry about what/how it comes out on text, I just hit submit once I’m done venting. It seems to do a really good job at deciphering it all for me. To hone it in just have a bit of back and forth and give it some feedback. If you use the same chat it gets better at doing it for you from minimal info.
Personally, I’m feeling so less overwhelmed than I had been before, which seems like a miracle considering my hormones are still all over the place and it’s been Easter school holidays with a 10 week old and a 4 year old forever 🫠

Thanks, I have the tasks in spreadsheets, so it's not a matter of writing it down.

It's more about getting it to turn an overwhelming amount of tasks with competing deadlines into an achievable to do list that I'm looking for. Organising my brain dump into themes and eliminating repetition, that sort of thing.

If you have it all written already, copy and paste and it will create you tables, excel sheets etc whatever you need.

And once the info is in there, ask it to remember (you have to switch this option on in settings) and it will become a breeze.

I got mine to make an autism friendly meal plan for my son, and it was great! But I've been chatting with mine for over a year now, so he knows a lot about me, without too much actual personal information. He doesn't know our real names, I haven't uploaded pictures (just asked for his rendition of us when doing cute pics). But he probably knows more than I would realistically like him too. But nothing identifying.

Just ask it. It’ll either output something useful or it won’t. You can also ask it to guide you on the best way to get what you need from it using the info you’ve got.

I sometimes use it to summarise documents but I’m cautious after it made up some legal cases and precedents when my husband tried to use it. Definitely handle with care!!

OneForTheRoadThen · 21/04/2025 13:58

I asked it to write a poem about my cat and then I read the cat the poem.

Agree, everything has to be crossed checked as you don’t know where in the world it is garnering it’s information from

Broad prompts like 'is there any case law relevant to x scenario' are always going to cause it to get overwhelmed and hallucinate in a panic

If you find the case law (or research or whatever) first, and paste parts in, ask for a 'layperson' translation/summary etc it's very accurate. If you cast your net too wide it'll land on multiple possible answers and likely mangle them into one 'fake answer'. If you find the possible answers first and go through them one by one, you'll get better responses.

RabbitsRock · 22/04/2025 11:08

Hastentoadd you mean “ cross checked”

crinkletits · 22/04/2025 17:53

I’m either a genius or it’s made to be very very complimentary despite me telling it not to be so flattering. I want a warts and all version.

Sayithowiseeit · 22/04/2025 18:10

I used it to find 2 books I read years ago but couldn't remember what they were. I also asked what a TERF was

HappyMayDays · 03/05/2025 06:13

I've only recently discovered it and found it's great at pension forecasts, really fast and will give me multiple scenarios.
I also tried medical advice, work relations advice, and used it to show me all the walks nearby, it's great

basketballcricketball · 03/05/2025 13:37

I've been using it this week to help with planting flowers and care tips. I'm not green fingered but am wanting a nice garden for the summer.
Also this week asked it to explain/unpick some feelings I was having about a relationship. It was so helpful and enlightening.

Ayeayeaye25 · 13/05/2025 16:30

Latest use was to help me send a non confrontational text message reply to my toxic passive aggressive possibly narcissistic mother who sent me a message as a hook it was veiled as a nice message but really it was designed to guilt trip me and be a bit passive aggressive. Chatgpt helped me compose a quick appropriate response with only two tiny changes and also spotted the undertones within the message. It hasn’t triggered world war three so win win.

superplumb · 14/05/2025 10:09

I use it to analyse what's app messages from old, as well as drafting replies
Recently asked it to turn a photo of my dog into a human.. clearly I'm bored today.

Wow!! That’s incredible. How do you actually go about asking this and how do I use chat GP? I have no idea at all how to start.

I took a photo of the message and asked it how I might reply to my DM in a non confrontational way.

AfricanGreen · 28/05/2025 08:41

I used it to unlock how emotionally ragey I get with my mum, after staying with her for odd weeks (sometimes I work away from home and stay with her during the week, and she was a grim mum when I was young).
It was very nice and supportive and suggested setting strong boundaries with said mum. It then advocated full-on ditching people in favour of your own needs, which I felt was a bit OTT.

I pointed out that she is 75 and showing early dementia signs, and that I do have some duty of care.
It then apologised for my remonstrance and flattered me again, saying how wise I was to consider my own position and be trying to deal with my 'stuff'.

So yeah, positive but treat with suspicion.
