What have you used ChatGPT for lately?

I’ve used it to-

Do a colour analysis based on a selfie. I’m a cool winter, apparently.

Calculated my BMI, TDEE, and create a diet plan to help me lose 8kgs.

Calculate the calories I burned on a walk based on the distance, speed, and the terrain (I don’t have a smart watch).

I constantly use it to look for discount codes if I’m shopping online. So far, it’s been 100% successful for everything from clothing to car rental sites abroad.

I’ve also been playing around a bit with the new photo generation capability but haven’t found it great. I asked it to create a headshot I could use for LinkedIn and it made me look like a much older woman of a different race.

Any recommendations for thing you get it to do?

Because your take is very hypocritical. Having children is one of the most environmentally damaging things you can do.

By not having a child, you’d prevent 30 times more C02 being produced than you would if you gave up your car for a year.

This must honestly be the dumbest comparison I have ever read. I despair about the future (if there is one).

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 19/04/2025 10:13

I’m actually quite concerned as to the environmental impact of all of this. There are huge server farms which use a lot of water. I remember seeing one in a News report somewhere in southern Spain where they already ration water to households part of the year, and this will be repeated all over the globe. Probably in areas which can least afford the environmental impact.

And no, I’m not perfect. I take a couple of short haul flights each year. But I’m not looking for a way to add to climate change, not when it’s unnecessary.

I use ChatGPT, Claude and the Google effort quite a lot and I run mini workshops showing charities and community groups how to use AI

my uses are many and include;
Designing courses and workshops.

making a priority list for all my business ideas - I have adhd and it overwhelms me.

I use ChatGPT to lay out my ideas and brainstorm with.

dealing with difficult situations. I volunteer a lot and we faced some negative social media due to one local business twisting something. I wanted professional but fair rebuttals and it helped take the emotion out of the situation.

planning for charity’s - what we need to work on next. Policies, strategies and promoting and recruitment of volunteers.

planning for a luncheon club we run as volunteers catering for up to 30 people. So two course home cooked meal ideas that come to under £3/4 a head. It gave us the recipes, tweaked by adding lentils etc to add bulk and save costs, broke down the stages so we could serve at 12.30, made a checklist for set up, prep, cook, serve and clean up stages.

colour analysis- I’ve gone from brunette to all grey now and feel washed out. It’s suggested colours to try and what to avoid.

Here’s some images of my conversations since January.

I copy and paste emails/messages from abusive ex and mother into chat gbt and it identifies any manipulative tactics used. I type in draft replies and it makes suggestions to make them more 'professional' and less defensive. I also use it to understand different behaviours in context of these relationships. It has been extremely insightful.

@climbelon what a fantastic use! I wish it had been around 20 years ago when I separated from my partner. He took me to court for custody as I was an unfit mother as I worked full time… and because he was long term unemployed as was his best mates wife who he ran away with - they could be better parents. Rolling eyes so hard it hurts cost me thousands in legal help whilst he got it for free. I won, he had access still. Stopped bothering with our boys within 2 years and hasn’t made any effort since.

Being able to talk to ChatGPT then could have saved me time, money and sanity.

Most recently to design my new build garden !

PLEASE for the love of god, do some research into how much resources AI requires to do one solitary single prompt. The research is easy to find and understand with a quick google search.

I'm not trying to be mean but having just been reading about the unbelievable amount of water and energy required to answer ONE QUESTION on chatgpt, seeing the, sorry to be blunt, utter frivolity that people use AI for is actually sending me into a bit of despair. Our planet can't take this.

But Google search includes AI responses at the top now anyway, as do several other search engines.

SpidersAreShitheads · 19/04/2025 08:18

Did you look into the copyright issues with this? I starting reading up on it but it was complicated and I lost interest 😂

Yes - it’s typically fine, good to make an edit or two like adding text

DeeEyeWhyBecauseIGotta · 18/04/2025 22:02

Is this the ordinary chat GPT? Because mine seems to struggle with any images

Yes, just the free version (on the app) but it sometimes takes forever. I have to leave it for 5 minutes to work it out. It will also say 'error' when it's done but if I click on the blurred picture it appears - I presumed a bug!

You can use ones like Ecosia that don't.

I really like ChatGPT but I don't trust it anymore after I planned an entire holiday on there for ages, every detail, went to book and you couldn't fly from the airport it said you could to the destination. It really had a big impact and has made me wary of relying on it.

It does however save loads of time googling.

Edited

Yeah it totally makes stuff up sometimes. Recently a student asked me where to find some information to back something up and I was struggling to find anything so I asked ChatGPT. It told me which national guideline it was in and even included a quote. I thought it was a bit odd because I hadn’t seen that in the guideline. I checked the guideline again, it said no such thing. The quote was also totally made up.

i went back and told ChatGPT it was wrong and it apologised, said something about “on further reflection you’re right and I made an error”.

thank god I didn’t tell the student a load of duff information as I’d have looked a right idiot!

Catsinaflat · 19/04/2025 13:19

For my end of year appraisal. I hate writing those so got ChatGPT to do it. Came out really well. I just tweaked a few words to make it sound more like me!

Felinnefine · 19/04/2025 13:23

I used it once to generate a response / appeal to the council about a parking / driving fine (can’t recall which one). I didn’t win the appeal, so haven’t used it again.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 19/04/2025 13:29

I love it, I use it to help me write reports at work. When there’s something I can’t phrase right or think sounds a bit unprofessional I type it in and it gives me new ways of wording it.

I also use it to make sense of test results. I’m having some fertility issues and uploading blood tests and ultrasound results in has really helped me understand what’s going on.

No3392 · 19/04/2025 13:35

Yes, you do need to be careful using the free version.

On the paid version, it now shows which websites it uses for reference and itvhas also referenced journal articles and directly links them. Always check though!

For instance I asked about buying secateurs, and it linked me to several types on different websites.

SparklyBrickViper · 19/04/2025 13:39

I use it to convert recipes into recipes for my kitchen robot/processor.

ConstitutionHill · 19/04/2025 13:40

Some great ideas here. I use it to generate formulas in excel. Having read this I will branch out a bit.

stayathomer · 19/04/2025 13:43

I try not to use it as I asked it recently about a book I’d read and it gave me ridiculously incorrect facts (very obviously taken from incorrect amazon reviews!) and also the fact it’s liked to open ai which is run by Elon musk, I just don’t bother. Some of the stuff you’re all doing sounds fab though!

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 19/04/2025 14:07

My sister is autistic and has enough health issues that I really want her to get LPAs in place but she is resisting this because she doesn’t understand them but knows that it is a legally significant document. She was refusing to engage with the conversation so I asked ChatGPT to write a summary of the purpose of LPAs and the reasons why someone might want one, or not want one and to simplify that explanation so that it could be understood by a 12 year old. I’m hopeful that if I give it to her and ask her to reflect on it in her own time, she will agree.

DaysofHoney · 19/04/2025 19:51

I’m also using it to help me navigate the process for getting my dad the care support he needs and to help me understand the benefits he might be entitled to- it breaks things down by borough and county which is so helpful

UnstableZebra · 19/04/2025 20:09

Hmm..after reading here I tried to make a very simple colouring page of the alphabet. It got letters wrong about 4 times, and then it said I had to wait one hour to try again. It did repeat which mistakes had been made and the correct alphabet each time before making a new picture.

I tried after an hour, but it made a mistake again (one letter missing) and then said I had to wait 24 hrs since I had tried the free version. I won’t try again. I feel it’s just to make me pay (which is fair enough I guess).

safetyfreak · 19/04/2025 20:12

Work, I am dyslexic so it helps me with grammer and sentence flow.

I also use it for meal prep/reicipes etc.

DaysofHoney · 19/04/2025 20:16

Tendered version’s pretty hopeless with anything relating to design but still a fantastic alternative to google, or when you need something drafting fast

I use it to convert recipes into recipes for my kitchen robot/processor.

I found a baking recipe today that required 25g of fresh yeast but I had 33g that I needed to use up so I used ChatGPT to scale it up and recalculate the fermentation and proving timings for me.

Worked perfectly!

I also gave it a photo of the breakfast I had at a cafe and asked it to calculate calories. I crossed referenced against My Fitness Pal and it was fairly accurate (as accurate as anything can be for good cooked in a restaurant).

Finally, I asked it to design a new look for a spare room based in the room’s orientation and my location. I really like what it created.

I’m using the paid version since last night and it’s brilliant.
